No verified standalone Xbox Android app store is confirmed for summer 2026. Microsoft’s original mobile-store proposal was described as a web-first storefront, while Android users can now use the Xbox app and mobile browser to shop for Xbox products, manage Game Pass, stream selected games, or remotely play from their own console.

What Microsoft originally announced
In May 2024, Microsoft Gaming president Sarah Bond discussed an Xbox-branded mobile gaming storefront. The initial concept was a web storefront, not necessarily a downloadable Android marketplace. A browser-based launch could make the service available across devices and countries without relying entirely on closed mobile-store policies.
Microsoft’s stated ambition was to begin with its own mobile properties and potentially add third-party games later. That did not amount to a confirmed Google Play replacement, an APK repository, or a promise that console games would become Android installations.
Why the “this summer” headline is misleading
The original summer timetable was associated with the 2024 plan. It should not be presented as a confirmed summer 2026 launch schedule.

In October 2024, reporting said Android users would be able to buy Xbox games through the Xbox app after changes connected to the Google legal dispute: Android Central’s report. In December 2025, Windows Central reported testing of a fuller store section and wishlist features in the app: Windows Central. In April 2026, another Windows Central report said the earlier Xbox Mobile Store site appeared inaccessible or redirected to an error page, while leaving open the possibility of a change in direction: Windows Central.
Those developments support a cautious conclusion: the original project may have been folded into the Xbox app, reworked, delayed or abandoned. Microsoft’s public materials do not provide a definitive cancellation announcement or a verified standalone Android-store launch date.

What Android users can do now
Shop through the Xbox mobile experience
Microsoft’s official mobile page promotes access to Game Pass plans, Xbox console games, PC games, consoles and add-ons through its mobile ecosystem: Xbox on mobile.
- Install or update the official Xbox app from the relevant app store.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox account.
- Open the shopping, Game Pass, library or store-related area shown in your current app version.
- Select a product and check its platform label: Xbox, PC, Play Anywhere, Game Pass, add-on, cloud-playable or Android/mobile.
- Complete the purchase or subscription, then use the supported Xbox, Windows, Android or cloud route on the target device.
Navigation labels and available features can differ by app build, account and country. If the store area is absent, try the Xbox website in a mobile browser. Microsoft says Store services and availability vary by country or region: Microsoft Store and billing support.

Stream with Xbox Cloud Gaming
- Open a supported mobile browser and go to xbox.com/play.
- Sign in and confirm that the title is in your available cloud catalog and that your plan and region support cloud play.
- Connect a compatible controller when the game requires one, then start streaming.
Microsoft currently lists Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or later for Xbox Cloud Gaming and recommends a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection or mobile data at 20 Mbps or higher. These are current published recommendations, not a permanent guarantee of availability. Streaming quality also depends on latency, congestion, server availability and the game catalog.
Use Remote Play from your own console
- Open a supported mobile browser and go to xbox.com/remoteplay.
- Sign in with the account linked to the console.
- Make sure the Xbox is configured for remote features, online and ready to connect.
- Select the console and begin the remote session.
Remote Play streams from your personal Xbox. It requires a console and does not replace ownership of the game.

What “Xbox store” can mean

Buying an Xbox game on an Android phone makes the phone the purchasing device. The entitlement may be for Xbox, Windows PC, cloud streaming or Play Anywhere. It does not automatically make the console version installable on Android.

The Android opportunity is connected to litigation and policy changes involving Google Play, external transactions and alternative distribution. Google’s developer documentation says that, from July 22, 2026, app and game listings in the United States could be made available to third-party U.S. Android app stores unless developers opted out: Google Play developer documentation. Google also explains rules for communicating with users about availability or pricing outside Google Play and linking to external downloads or transactions: Google’s policy guidance.

These rules create a more favorable environment for alternative Android distribution. They do not announce an Xbox store, confirm Microsoft’s participation or establish that Xbox transactions bypass Google Play billing in every situation.
Why the store or a purchase option may be missing
- Your country or region may not support the feature, title or payment option.
- The Xbox app may be out of date, or Microsoft may be testing the feature with only some users.
- You may be signed into a different Microsoft account from the one holding the Xbox library.
- The product may be Xbox- or PC-only rather than an Android game.
- Age settings, parental controls, payment details or market settings may block a purchase.
- The product may be delisted or unavailable in your market.
- You may be looking at the separate Game Pass app or a browser-based cloud page rather than the Xbox app.
- Android compatibility does not guarantee Xbox Cloud Gaming availability in every country.
Microsoft notes that an app or product can appear on one device or platform but not another, and that availability can change when an account moves between regions: Microsoft Store availability support.
What this is not
- It is not a confirmed Google Play replacement.
- It is not a Microsoft-confirmed APK marketplace distributed independently of Google Play.
- It is not a way to install ordinary Xbox console games natively on Android.
- It is not proof that every Xbox game is cloud-streamable.
Cloud access depends on the title, subscription, region and current catalog. Touch controls are also title-dependent, and a controller is often preferable.
Bottom line for Android gamers
As of August 18, 2026, Microsoft’s public Xbox mobile guidance supports mobile shopping and browser-based play, but it does not verify a new standalone Xbox Android store launching this summer. Use the Xbox app or mobile website to buy and manage supported products, xbox.com/play for cloud gaming, and xbox.com/remoteplay for streaming from your own console. Treat claims about an independent Xbox Android marketplace as unconfirmed unless Microsoft publishes a specific launch announcement.
