Mike Booth announced an unnamed four-player co-op shooter on August 29, 2025, describing it as built on the foundations of what made Left 4 Dead special. That makes the game “Left 4 Dead-coded” in the sense of its stated cooperative inspiration—not an announced sequel, licensed follow-up, or confirmed zombie game.
What Mike Booth announced
In a Reddit post on August 29, 2025, Booth said he was working on a brand-new four-player cooperative shooter. He described teamwork, tension, and replayability as qualities relevant to the project, and said he wanted to expand the co-op formula in directions he had wanted to explore. Those are development goals he stated, not features verified in released or publicly demonstrated gameplay. Read Booth’s announcement on Reddit.

Booth wrote: “We’re still in the early stages of development, but we’re opening up playtests to a limited number of players.” A Bad Robot Games community manager joined the thread, likewise describing development as very early and saying the team wanted to use playtest feedback. The announcement thread.
Is it Left 4 Dead 3?
No. The announcement presents a new project inspired by the foundations of Left 4 Dead; it does not announce Left 4 Dead 3 or establish that the game is licensed by Valve. Calling it a spiritual successor is an interpretation of Booth’s stated inspiration, not a confirmed description of its status.

Will the new shooter have zombies?
That has not been confirmed. In its September 1, 2025 coverage, Insider Gaming noted that Booth had not said the project included zombies. The comparison to Left 4 Dead alone is not evidence of the setting or enemy types.
What is known about the title, release, and platforms?
In the announcement and contemporaneous coverage, the project had no disclosed title or graphics. The cited sources also do not establish a release date, supported platforms, specific gameplay systems, or publisher. The development stage was described as early in August 2025; those reports do not verify the project’s status as of October 2026.

Can you still sign up for a playtest?
Booth said limited playtests were opening when he announced the game in August 2025. That establishes an invitation at that time, not that registration remains open today. The announcement thread includes questions about getting more information and hardware or software requirements, but the cited material gives no official requirements answer.
