MindsEye launched on June 10, 2025, with Build A Rocket Boy acknowledging serious performance problems. Days later, identical positive comments sparked accusations of review manipulation—which the studio denied. Updates followed, but a September 2026 report said employees were facing redundancies. The sequence explains why the launch felt so strange; it does not, by itself, prove that every online controversy was orchestrated or that the studio has closed.
What happened when MindsEye launched?
Steam lists MindsEye as released on June 10, 2025, with Build A Rocket Boy as both developer and publisher. PlayStation lists a PS5 edition, while Steam lists the PC edition. Steam’s listing and PlayStation’s listing establish the platforms and release context—not how well the game performed technically on every system.

The first major problem was performance. On launch day, GameSpot reported that the studio acknowledged issues on PC and console, saying the minimum specifications were high and that its engineering team was working to improve performance on mainstream hardware and consoles. Build A Rocket Boy said it was “heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended.” It also said: “We understand that the current minimum spec requirements are very high, but our engineering team are working around the clock to improve performance on mainstream hardware as well as consoles by integrating the performance improvements in Unreal Engine V5.6,” GameSpot reported.
The studio’s crash explanation
On June 12, GameSpot reported that Build A Rocket Boy attributed most crashes to a memory leak and estimated that the issue affected about 10% of players. That figure and diagnosis were the developer’s account, not an independent measurement. The studio said a hotfix was planned. It described its priority as “optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience,” as quoted by GameSpot.

Why did identical positive comments become part of the story?
On June 18, PCGamesN reported that identical positive wording appeared in comments under reviews of the game. Build A Rocket Boy denied using bots. That denial records the company’s position; it does not establish who wrote each comment or independently settle how the matching comments appeared. PCGamesN’s report also described criticism of performance, repetitive mechanics and visual design.
As a result, the launch story had two distinct strands: players and critics discussing the game itself, and an online argument about the authenticity of some positive comments. The second strand should be described as a controversy and allegation, not as proven review manipulation.

Did the game receive updates after launch?
Yes. The studio published updates after release. Its Update 6.1 notes, on an official page updated May 8, 2026, describe AI and animation improvements, mission changes, bug fixes, performance work and two added Arcadia missions. The studio called it its final update for 2025.
That update shows work continued through the documented period. It is not a guarantee of ongoing support or a promise of future updates. GameSpot also reported in July 2025 on a roadmap that included further performance work and gameplay changes, as well as studio layoffs after the June launch. Plans described at that time—including a delayed Hitman crossover—should not be mistaken for current commitments. GameSpot’s July report covered those plans and cuts.

What is known about Build A Rocket Boy’s status?
On September 16, 2026, PC Gamer reported that multiple employees had posted that they were being made redundant. The report said Build A Rocket Boy had not publicly confirmed a shutdown. Employee posts reported by a publication are evidence of reported staff cuts, not a company-confirmed closure announcement. PC Gamer’s report provides that qualification.
How is MindsEye rated on Steam now?
At the time of the October 8, 2026 check, Steam displayed 54% positive English-language reviews from 1,634 reviews. That is a changing platform snapshot, not a fixed or universal score; the current figure may differ. Steam’s review listing is the source for the live rating.
