Minecraft 1.22 is not a confirmed release name. Mojang’s release index lists 2026 Java and Bedrock releases in the 26.x series, so “1.22” is best understood as a speculative wishlist label—not an announcement or leak. If you’re asking what Mojang should add next, these five ideas focus on practical improvements to inventory use, existing worlds, exploration, building, and multiplayer.
Mojang now releases free game drops several times a year, with releases varying in size and adding different kinds of content. The ideas below are proposals, not features Mojang has confirmed it is developing.
What could a Minecraft 1.22 update add?
Minecraft’s current update model leaves room for both smaller quality-of-life changes and larger additions to the world. Mojang’s official timeline shows drops introducing a mix of mobs, biomes, blocks, items, weapons, music, and locations. That variety makes a wishlist more useful when it considers what players would do with an addition, rather than simply asking for more content.
Here are five ideas that could improve different parts of the game without treating any one of them as a promised feature.

1. Make inventory management more useful
The problem
Survival players collect resources while mining, exploring, and building, then spend time sorting items or returning to storage. That friction can interrupt the activity they actually want to do.
The idea
Add optional, player-controlled sorting and clearer inventory organization. For example, a sorting action could group matching items while leaving the player’s hotbar untouched, or players could mark a few slots to protect tools and supplies from being moved.
Why it would help
In survival, quicker sorting means less time managing a full inventory after a trip. Builders could keep materials easier to find while switching between projects. The key would be keeping the feature optional and predictable: automatic organization should never move an item in a way that surprises the player or disrupts a chosen hotbar setup.
2. Give players more reasons to revisit existing biomes
The problem
A biome can be memorable on a first visit but offer little reason to return once a player has gathered its obvious resources or explored its main landmarks.

- EASILY DECORATE any space to create the perfect decor for a party, bedroom, bathroom, kids room, living room, office, dorm, and more
The idea
Add small, biome-specific environmental details or activities that reward paying attention: local events, subtle natural variations, or useful interactions tied to the landscape. These could enrich familiar places without requiring every biome to become a separate progression system.
Why it would help
New details could make travel feel less like crossing the same scenery and give players a reason to build, gather, or explore in more places. This direction builds on the range of world content Minecraft drops have introduced, but the particular activities here are hypothetical.
3. Make exploration lead to more distinctive rewards
The problem
Finding a new place is exciting, but exploration loses momentum if discoveries rarely offer something worth bringing home or remembering.
The idea
Create a discovery loop built around distinctive locations, collectibles, or environmental challenges. A find might reward a displayable object, a piece of lore, or a practical item connected to the challenge—not just another cache of ordinary materials.

- Size: 9.8" W X 16.2" H X 0.25" D
Why it would help
Distinctive rewards give explorers a reason to follow clues and detours, while collectibles can also give builders something new to showcase. Mojang’s update timeline includes additions to locations and other world content; it does not establish that any particular structure or reward is planned.
4. Give building materials more practical uses
The problem
Builders often choose blocks for their appearance, while survival players may value the same materials mainly as resources. Some blocks could support more varied projects if they had useful interactions as well as visual appeal.
The idea
Add a practical crafting or building interaction that uses materials in a new way—for instance, a block-specific decorative component or a simple utility feature that encourages players to combine materials. The mechanic should expand creative options without making one block mandatory for basic construction.
Why it would help
A well-chosen interaction could give builders more ways to express a theme and offer survival players another reason to gather different resources. This is a proposal for future gameplay, not a claim about materials or mechanics already announced for an upcoming drop.

5. Improve the experience of playing together
The problem
Shared worlds can be memorable, but coordinating a group’s plans and discoveries can take effort—especially when players explore at different speeds or return to a project at different times.
The idea
Add a lightweight cooperative feature for shared discovery or world organization. Possibilities include clearer ways to mark a place for friends, leave a short in-world note, or coordinate a group activity without turning multiplayer into a checklist.
Why it would help
Small coordination tools could make it easier for friends to resume a build, follow an expedition, or share a find. Mojang said in 2024 that multiplayer improvements were among its longer-term initiatives; that broad direction does not confirm any specific feature in this wishlist.

That depends on who is playing. Inventory improvements could help across survival and building sessions, while biome and exploration additions would matter most to players who travel and discover. New material interactions would primarily serve builders, and coordination tools would have the clearest value in shared worlds.

As an editorial judgment, inventory sorting or a small multiplayer convenience feature seems easier to imagine in a smaller drop than a substantial expansion to biomes or exploration rewards. That is a comparison of likely scope, not a statement about Mojang’s plans. Mojang has also described working on longer-term initiatives alongside its drops, so not every worthwhile change would need to arrive in the same kind of update.
What Mojang’s update model means for this wishlist
Mojang says free game drops arrive several times a year and can vary in scale. It has also said community suggestions influence development, citing cherry groves and wolf variations as examples. That history makes player suggestions relevant to the conversation, but it is not evidence that any of these five ideas is under development.
In its September 2026 Minecraft Live recap, Mojang also described a creator platform intended to make creating, managing, and sharing Minecraft content more accessible. Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergenström said, “Our goal here at Mojang Studios is to inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators.” That announcement concerns the creator ecosystem; it should not be mistaken for a confirmed gameplay feature in a 1.22 update.
