To find a rare biome in a world you already play, use a seed map with the correct world seed, Minecraft version, edition, and dimension. If cheats are enabled, Bedrock’s /locate command can instead return the nearest matching biome’s coordinates. A lookup may take seconds; getting the seed, checking compatibility, and traveling there can take longer.
Which biome-finding method should you use?

For a world you have already created, start with the seed map if you cannot or do not want to use commands. Choose /locate when it is available and you want the nearest result. The Seed Picker is only for selecting a world to start.
Find a biome in an existing world with a seed map
- Get the world seed. Ask the world owner, check the world’s settings if available, or use the in-game
/seedcommand where your edition and permissions allow it. Chunk Base’s Seed Map documentation also identifies/seedas an alternative for obtaining the seed. - Open the Chunk Base Seed Map. Enter the seed, then select the game version and dimension that match the world you want to inspect. A seed map can show different results if any of these details are wrong.
- Search for or highlight the biome. Use the map’s search or biome-highlighting controls to locate the biome. Inspect the map coordinates and use its coordinate “Go” control to move the map view to a location.
- Travel to the coordinates in game. The map shows where to go; it does not move your character. Plan a route in the world and navigate to the displayed location.
Chunk Base’s Minecraft Apps overview describes its Seed Finder tools as covering Java and Bedrock conditions, including biomes and structures near spawn. Check the Seed Map’s own version selector and help rather than assuming every game release is supported in the same way.
Use Bedrock’s /locate command when commands are allowed
Microsoft’s official /locate command reference says the command finds the nearest specified biome or structure if it exists in the current dimension. The documented permission level is Game Directors, and cheats are required. You may therefore be unable to use it in a world where cheats are off or where you lack the necessary permissions.

Command syntax and availability depend on edition and game version. Check the command reference for the exact version you have installed before entering a biome argument; do not assume a command example for another edition will work. This reference covers Bedrock. If you play Java Edition, consult its version-specific documentation rather than applying Bedrock syntax.
Choose a new Bedrock world with the Seed Picker
If you have not created the world yet, the official Bedrock Edition Seed Picker FAQ describes seeds that place players in or very near a selected biome or feature. The picker is Bedrock-exclusive and selects a seed for a new world; it does not search an existing world for coordinates.

- From Minecraft, choose Create New, then Create New World.
- Open Game settings and select the box next to Seed to open the picker.
- Choose a listed seed that matches the biome or feature you want, then create the world.
If the map result does not match your world
Before assuming a biome is missing, verify the details that determine which world the map is showing:
- Seed: Check for a mistyped digit or a seed from a different world.
- Edition and platform: Confirm the edition and platform context used to select the map settings.
- Version: Select the world’s actual Minecraft version, not simply the newest option shown.
- Dimension: Make sure the map is set to the dimension you are exploring.
- Coordinates: Compare the map’s location with the corresponding coordinates in the live world.
Chunk Base’s Seed Map page lists an update dated September 8, 2026, and labels the map MC 26.2. Its apps overview lists Seed Map and Biome Finder updates dated October 1, 2026, including Ice Caves support. Those displayed dates and labels are not fully synchronized, so check the current version selector and tool help when results diverge. Chunk Base asks users reporting discrepancies to include the seed, platform, version, and coordinates; the tool documentation does not establish a quantified accuracy rate or guarantee a perfect match.
