Yes—Minecraft has a digital currency called Minecoins. Minecoins are used to buy skins, texture packs, adventure maps and other items in the Minecraft Marketplace. They apply to Bedrock Edition, not as one universal currency across every Minecraft edition and device. The current US Minecoins purchase page lists Windows, Xbox, Nintendo, Android, iOS, Chromebook and Amazon Fire as compatible platforms.
You need a Microsoft account for purchases made on Minecraft.net or through the Bedrock Marketplace. Your balance is associated with the account that made the purchase, so edition, platform and sign-in details matter before you buy.

What Minecoins are
Minecoins are Minecraft’s account-based currency for Marketplace content. The official purchase page defines them as “a digital currency used in the Minecraft Marketplace to purchase content on your account.” That content can include character skins, texture packs, mash-ups, adventure maps, worlds and other creator-made additions offered through the Marketplace.
Minecoins are not emeralds, diamonds or another resource you collect while playing Survival. They do not replace the purchase price of Minecraft, unlock Java Edition, or function as a general-purpose payment method outside the Marketplace. They also are not a universal currency shared by every Minecraft-related service. A server operator may run a separate in-game economy, but that is independent of Minecoins.
#1 Best Overall
- Minecoins let you buy Minecraft content you can enjoy on your Android, iOS, Windows 10, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch devices*
- Visit the in-game Minecraft marketplace, where you'll discover a constantly updating library of exciting new Minecraft content - from a community whose imagination knows no limits.
- Once you've redeemed your Minecoins, they'll be linked with your Xbox Live account, so you can access your coins and purchases through all of your supported devices that run Minecraft.
- Minecoins are a perfect gift for Minecraft players!
The balance is a digital entitlement rather than cash. You spend it on eligible Marketplace listings while signed in, and the resulting content is attached to your account according to the edition and platform rules that apply to that purchase.
Which Minecraft editions and devices use Minecoins?
Minecoins are principally the currency of Bedrock Edition’s Marketplace. The current US purchase page names these compatible platform families:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →| Edition or platform | What to expect | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Bedrock Edition on Windows | Marketplace purchases can use Minecoins when you are signed in with the purchasing Microsoft account. | Use the same account that holds the balance. |
| Xbox | Bedrock Marketplace content is available through the listed Xbox environment. | Store and account rules can vary by region. |
| Nintendo | The current page lists Nintendo among compatible platforms. | Confirm the account and store shown on your device before paying. |
| Android and iOS | Mobile Bedrock Marketplace purchases are included in the listed platforms. | Make sure the game is using the Microsoft account that owns the balance. |
| Chromebook and Amazon Fire | Both are listed on the current US page. | Availability, billing and redemption can depend on location and store. |
| Java Edition | Java does not have a universal Minecraft-operated Minecoin economy. | Do not assume a Java purchase, server currency or Java account balance is interchangeable with Bedrock Minecoins. |
| PlayStation | Do not rely on old cross-platform tables as a current policy statement. | An older official comparison described PlayStation 4 tokens as separate from Minecoins; check the current PlayStation store and account flow before purchasing. |
The platform comparison document that discusses PlayStation tokens is legacy material, so it should be read as historical context rather than a complete 2026 compatibility chart. The safest rule is to open the Marketplace on the exact device you will use, verify the signed-in Microsoft account and read the store’s regional terms.
How to buy Minecoins
You can purchase Minecoins from inside Bedrock Edition or through Minecraft’s official web purchase flow. The precise package sizes and prices are presented by the store at checkout and can differ by region; the supplied official pages do not establish a universal package-price table.

- MINECRAFT MARKETPLACE — Browse a constantly updating library of content from Minecraft creators, with new content available every week.
- CREATOR-MADE CONTENT — Use Minecoins to get Marketplace content such as skin packs, mash-up packs, mini-games, and adventure maps.

- A GIFT FOR PLAYERS — Give Minecraft players Minecoins to spend on content in the in-game Marketplace.
- Launch Bedrock Edition. Open the game on a platform listed as compatible and wait until the main menu has loaded.
- Sign in to Microsoft. Check the profile currently shown in the game. Purchases made under a different account will not put the balance on the account you intended.
- Open Marketplace. Select the Marketplace tab, then locate the plus sign beside your Minecoin balance. Minecraft Help describes this as the route to the available packages.
- Choose a package. Select the amount displayed for your region. Review the store confirmation screen, including the account and payment method, before authorizing the transaction.
- Complete the platform-store payment. The purchase is processed by the relevant device or web store, subject to its billing and regional requirements.
- Check the balance and shop. Return to Marketplace and confirm that the new balance appears before selecting content. Minecoins can then be exchanged for eligible listings shown there.
You can also buy through Minecraft.net’s Minecoins page. A Microsoft account is required for that route. If Minecraft was already running when you bought Minecoins on the website, the official page says you may need to sign out of the game and restart it before the balance refreshes.
Can you use a Minecraft gift card for Minecoins?
Yes, a prepaid Minecraft card or code can be a way to fund Marketplace spending when the card is sold and redeemable in your region. Minecraft Help documents retailer cards containing a 25-digit (25-character) code, but availability is not guaranteed for every country, shop or listing.
Recommended Free Tools
- Buy a card whose region, edition and redemption terms match the recipient’s account.
- Reveal the code without sharing it publicly. Treat it like payment information.
- Redeem it through the Microsoft account redemption flow or the Minecraft.net redeem page specified by the card instructions.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that should receive the value.
- Launch Bedrock Edition, open Marketplace and verify the balance before spending.
A card is not automatically safer or more flexible than an online purchase. Check the seller’s region restrictions, the exact code format and whether the code adds Minecoins or another Minecraft product. If the recipient plays on several devices, confirm that those devices use the same Microsoft account and support the intended Marketplace.
What can Minecoins buy?
Marketplace listings identify the amount required for each item. Common categories include:
Rank #3
- The classic UNO card game builds fun on game night with a Minecraft theme.
- UNO Minecraft features a deck and storage tin decorated with graphics from the popular video game.
- Players match colors and numbers to the card on top of the discard pile as in the classic game.
- The Creeper card unique to this deck forces other players to draw 3 cards.
- Makes a great gift for kid, teen, adult and family game nights with 2 to 10 players ages 7 years and older, especially Minecraft and video game fans.
- Character and costume skins
- Texture packs that change the appearance of blocks and items
- Adventure maps and themed worlds
- Mash-up packs that combine a world, textures, skins or music
- Other creator content offered through Bedrock Marketplace
Minecoins buy the listing itself, not a promise that every future update or every platform version will behave identically. Read the item description, supported-platform information and any included-content notes before confirming. A purchase also does not turn Java Edition into Bedrock Edition or grant access to content that is not offered in your Marketplace region.
Minecoins versus Marketplace Pass
Marketplace Pass is a subscription, not a Minecoin balance. The current US Marketplace page displays a 30-day free period followed by $3.99 per month, checked in 2026. That offer is subject to change, so the price and trial shown at your checkout are the controlling terms.
| Question | Minecoins | Marketplace Pass |
|---|---|---|
| Payment model | One-time purchase of a digital balance. | Recurring subscription after the displayed trial or introductory period. |
| What you receive | Spending power for individual Marketplace listings. | Access to a changing selection of included Marketplace content while the subscription terms apply. |
| Do you receive Minecoins? | Yes, the purchased balance is the product. | No. A Pass subscription is not a Minecoin credit. |
| Best fit | You know which packs or worlds you want and prefer paying for those items. | You want to browse included content and accept a recurring arrangement. |
| Availability | Depends on the Marketplace and account platform rules. | Depends on the offer displayed for your region and account. |
Compare the exact item you want with the Pass catalog before subscribing. If a particular skin or world is not included, a Pass does not substitute for the Minecoins needed to buy it.
Do Minecoins work on Java Edition or PlayStation?
Java Edition
Java Edition does not use a single, official Minecoin economy. Java players may encounter server shops, cosmetic systems or community currencies, but those are controlled by individual servers and are not Bedrock Marketplace Minecoins. A Minecoin purchase should therefore be planned around Bedrock Marketplace content rather than a Java server or Java-only world.

PlayStation and older token rules
Minecraft’s older platform comparison described PlayStation 4 as using tokens that could not be used on other platforms, while Minecoins could not be used on PlayStation. That document is dated and should not be treated as a current, exhaustive policy. Because store integration and account support can change, inspect the Marketplace and PlayStation purchase screens available on your console before buying a code or balance.
Moving between Bedrock devices
The practical compatibility test is the Microsoft account, the Bedrock installation and the device’s current store rules. Sign in with the account that made the purchase and check whether the content appears in Marketplace. Minecraft Help also says purchases carry between Bedrock and Minecraft Legends when the same Microsoft account is used; that statement concerns the supported account link, not a guarantee that every Marketplace item is available in every edition or region.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Refunds, unauthorized purchases and account protection
The current US Minecoins page states that Minecoin purchases are final and non-refundable. Treat the confirmation screen as a final decision: verify the account, platform, package and region before authorizing payment.
If an unauthorized purchase was made through Minecraft.net, the page directs customers to Microsoft Support. Keep the transaction confirmation and the account details needed to identify the charge. For a platform-store purchase, also follow the relevant store’s support process; its policies may be separate from Minecraft’s Marketplace terms.

Troubleshooting a missing balance or code
The balance is zero after a web purchase
First confirm that the game is signed in to the same Microsoft account used on Minecraft.net. If Minecraft was open during the transaction, sign out, close and restart the game, then sign in again. This refresh step is specifically recommended on the official purchase page.

Re-enter the code exactly as printed, check whether it has already been redeemed and verify that its country or currency matches the account. If the retailer listing promised a Minecraft product other than Minecoins, use the redemption instructions for that product instead of assuming it adds Marketplace balance.
Purchased content is not visible
Open Marketplace on the Bedrock device, check the account profile and look in the account’s owned or purchased area. A Java installation, a different Microsoft account or a platform with separate store rules can make a valid Bedrock purchase appear absent.
You selected the wrong item
Because the official US page describes Minecoin purchases as final and non-refundable, review the listing details before every confirmation. If the transaction was unauthorized rather than simply unwanted, contact the support channel named in the purchase record.
Quick Recap
A simple decision guide
- Choose Minecoins when you have a specific Bedrock Marketplace pack, map or skin in mind and want a one-time balance.
- Consider Marketplace Pass when the current regional offer includes enough content you expect to use and you understand that it is a subscription rather than stored currency.
- Use a prepaid card when gifting or avoiding direct card entry, but verify the code’s region and redemption destination first.
- Do not buy Minecoins yet if you play only Java Edition, cannot identify the Microsoft account you will use, or need a PlayStation-specific compatibility answer that the current store has not clearly provided.
Before you pay: final checklist
- Confirm that you are playing Bedrock Edition and that your device is listed as compatible.
- Check the Microsoft account shown in Minecraft or on Minecraft.net.
- Decide whether you want a one-time Minecoin balance or a Marketplace Pass subscription.
- Read the exact Marketplace listing and regional price before confirming.
- For a card, verify the seller’s region, code format and redemption page.
- Remember that the current US policy says Minecoin purchases are final and non-refundable.
- Restart Minecraft if a web purchase does not appear immediately.
