Does Minecraft Dungeons 2 support crossplay?
Yes. Mojang’s Minecraft Dungeons II FAQ explicitly says the game has online cross-play. That means people using different supported systems can join the same online session rather than being restricted to one console family or one PC storefront.

The wording is broad: the announcement does not limit cross-play to a particular pair such as Xbox and Windows. Therefore, the supported-platform list is the useful compatibility test. If everyone in your group is on one of those systems, the published information says you can play together online.
What kinds of co-op are available?
Online cross-play
Players on different listed platforms can team up online. Xbox Wire’s launch coverage also refers to matchmaking, so the game is not limited to inviting people you already know. The exact matchmaking and invitation labels can vary by platform and by the final game interface, but the published feature is online multiplayer across the listed systems.
Couch co-op
Mojang describes local couch co-op, allowing players sharing one console or PC to play together. This is separate from cross-play: everyone in a couch session is local to the same machine, even if another player later joins online.
Mixed local-and-online co-op
The FAQ specifically describes mixed co-op. Two or more people on the same console or PC can fight alongside additional players online. That is useful for a household with two local players who want to join friends elsewhere without each local player needing a separate copy of the game and separate machine.

Party size
Mojang’s September 29, 2026 gameplay announcement says you can play alone or team up with up to three other players in online or couch co-op. The published maximum is therefore four players total. It is a party-size limit, not a statement that every mode or matchmaking queue will always be full.
Can friends on Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC play together?
Yes, provided each person is using one of the platforms in Mojang’s current list. A mixed group could, for example, contain a Windows player, a Steam player, an Xbox Series X|S player, and a PlayStation 5 player. Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 are also listed, so they are part of the same cross-play compatibility set.
Cross-play answers the question “Can our devices join the same session?” It does not answer “Will my character and campaign follow me when I change devices?” Those are different services and should be checked separately.

There is no confirmed answer in the official sources reviewed. Mojang’s FAQ and the Xbox materials do not say that a hero, inventory, equipment, unlocks, or campaign progress synchronizes between platforms. They also do not provide a supported cross-save procedure.

That is an undocumented feature, not proof that synchronization is impossible. The responsible position is to treat cross-progression as unconfirmed until Mojang publishes a direct statement or instructions. Do not assume that a successful cross-play session creates a shared save usable on every system.
What cross-progression would mean
Cross-progression, cross-save, or cross-platform progression normally means that the same player’s game state—such as a hero, gear, levels, quests, and campaign completion—can be loaded on another supported platform. None of those specific data types is confirmed as transferable for Minecraft Dungeons II by the cited official pages.
Why Xbox Play Anywhere is not proof of cross-save
The Xbox page for Minecraft Dungeons II describes Xbox Play Anywhere and says the game can be bought once and played on Xbox console and PC. That establishes an Xbox-and-PC access or ownership benefit. It does not, by itself, state that a save created on one platform will be synchronized with every other platform in the cross-play list, nor does it establish how saves work for Steam, PlayStation, or Nintendo systems.

Why the Hero Cape is not save transfer
Mojang says players who previously played the original Minecraft Dungeons can unlock the Hero Cape in Minecraft Dungeons II by signing in with the same Microsoft account. This is an account-linked cosmetic entitlement. It shows that a specific reward can be recognized across the two games, but it does not say that the original game’s hero, equipment, levels, or campaign save is imported into the sequel.
Keep the distinction clear: an account can qualify for a cosmetic reward while the game still keeps progression data separate by title, platform, or service.
What you need for online cross-play
Online play can involve requirements beyond owning the game. Mojang’s launch announcement says that a platform-specific online subscription is sold separately for console online multiplayer. The Xbox Store listing specifically identifies an Xbox Game Pass subscription requirement for online console multiplayer.

- Confirm that every player owns or otherwise has access to the game on their chosen platform.
- Check the platform’s current online-multiplayer subscription rule, especially for consoles.
- Use the game’s online, invitation, or matchmaking controls rather than assuming local co-op and online co-op use the same menu.
- Make sure every player is using a supported platform from Mojang’s published list.
- If you are changing platforms, plan as though progression may remain platform-specific until an official cross-save statement appears.

Verify platform eligibility first

Separate local and online problems

Check the console subscription
For console players, verify that the required platform online service is active on the account being used for multiplayer. The requirement is sold separately and may not be included with every purchase or tier.

Do not reset a save while investigating cross-progression
Because official cross-save behavior is not documented, avoid deleting local data or starting a migration based on assumptions. First check current Mojang support information and the platform’s account page. Cross-play compatibility is not evidence that a second platform can safely overwrite or retrieve your existing progression.
