Minecraft Dungeons II launched on September 29, 2026. The action-RPG sequel is available for Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. It sends players into the Sift, a new dimension, and supports solo play as well as online and couch co-op for up to four players.
What is Minecraft Dungeons II?
Minecraft Dungeons II is a narrative-driven action-RPG adventure set in the Minecraft universe. It is not the main Minecraft sandbox: instead of centering on open-world gathering and building, it focuses on combat, quests, exploration, and gear. The original Minecraft Dungeons is not required to start the sequel.
The game is available now. Xbox lists September 29, 2026 as its release date, and the official Minecraft launch post announced that it was live. Xbox’s game listing and the official launch announcement have the current details.

Official listings name Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Windows 10/11, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Storefront and regional availability can vary, so check the relevant platform’s listing for your location.

What happens in the story?
Strange rifts and disturbances threaten the Overworld, drawing players into the Sift, a new dimension with its own environments, creatures, and hazards. The returning illagers are led by the Prime Enchanter, Supreme Evoker, and Grand Illusioner, known together as the Illager High Council. Their threat reaches across both worlds.

What is the Sift like?
The Sift is not just another stretch of the Overworld: it introduces distinct biomes, hostile and friendly beings, and environmental dangers. In an Xbox Wire feature published September 26, 2026, Mojang highlighted the Meadows and Carapace biomes, along with shifting tides and hazardous blocks. Mojang design director Laura De Llorens described the world as interconnected, so players can walk between its beginning and end, while fast travel offers another way to get around. How do combat and gear work?
Players can shape their approach through weapons, armor, enchants, talismans, and artifacts. Mojang has also described expanded item and gear systems, giving the adventure a progression focus alongside its combat and exploration. The available launch information identifies these gear categories but does not establish a complete item list or detailed progression rules.
Can you play with friends?
Minecraft Dungeons II supports solo play or groups of up to four in online or couch co-op. The official FAQ also describes cross-play and mixed co-op, allowing local players to join additional online players. Console online co-op requires a platform-specific subscription, sold separately. Which editions are available?
Xbox currently presents Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. The Deluxe edition listing includes four additional hero skins, the Soul Cape, the Blub pet, and DLC packs 1 and 2 as they become available. The packs require the base game and an initial content download; inclusion in the edition does not mean unreleased DLC is playable now. Is Minecraft Dungeons II a sequel you can start with?
Yes. The official FAQ says you do not need to play the first Minecraft Dungeons to begin the sequel. Returning players may recognize references, but the original is optional rather than a prerequisite.
