There is no single best plane for every Wings of Heroes player: the right choice depends on your tier, preferred role, rarity, upgrades, and the situation you want to handle. Pocket Gamer’s guide, updated October 5, 2026 for version 2.3.2, offers a useful set of editorial picks—but it is not an official ranking or a standardized performance test. Use it as a starting point, then compare planes available in your current hangar.
Best Wings of Heroes planes by tier
The picks below reflect Pocket Gamer’s qualitative recommendations in its guide updated October 5, 2026 for version 2.3.2. The guide’s roster and recommendations are a dated editorial snapshot, not a complete official list; aircraft availability and balance may change with later updates. [Pocket Gamer tier guide]

| Tier | Guide picks | Why consider them | Trade-off or context |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | Hawker Fury MK II; Polikarpov I-15 bis | Pocket Gamer describes the two as equal in power. | Light Fighters have the shortest turn time, but relatively low speed and survivability. |
| II | Messerschmitt BF 109 B-1 | Praised for speed, short turn time, and damage per second. | Low survivability. |
| III | Blenheim MK I; Yer-2 M-105; Mitsubishi G4M1; He 111 H-16 | The guide highlights the Blenheim as a well-rounded bomber with damage, survivability, and maneuverability. | The Blenheim is slow; the guide also lists the other aircraft without establishing a standardized comparison among them. |
| IV | P-36A Hawk; Sea Fury FB. 11 | The guide favors the P-36A for speed and damage. | It is described as fragile, with an 18-second turn time stated by Pocket Gamer—not an independently verified measurement. |
| V | Junkers JU 88 A-4; Beaufighter MK X; Fiat F.C.20 Bis; Ki-43 Hayabusa; Yakovlev Yak-1; Bristol Beaufighter Mk X; PE-2-31 | The guide’s prose singles out the JU 88 A-4 for damage and survivability, and the PE-2-31 as one balanced multirole option. | These are qualitative picks, not a complete or uniform ranking of every Tier V aircraft. |
| VI | HE 111 H-16; Mitsubishi G4M1; Hawker Hurricane Mk IV | The guide recommends the two bombers for bomber-focused players and says its author leans toward the Mitsubishi. | The guide’s “well over 120 DPS” claim for the two bombers is its own statement, not an independently verified comparison. |
| VII | BF 110 G-2 | A multirole fighter described as fast, damaging, and adequately armored. | Its missile can be decisive if it lands. |
| VIII | Ki-67-I Otsu | A bomber praised for armament and armor. | Its turn time is longer. |
| IX | Spitfire F MK IX; B-17E Flying Fortress; Petlyakov Pe-8 | The guide contrasts the Spitfire’s speed with the Flying Fortress’s heavy weapons. | The Flying Fortress is slow to handle. |
| X | P-51 Mustang | Pocket Gamer’s pick, described as capable of substantial damage across situations. | The guide names the Mustang, while the game store listing also names La-7 and A-26B-10 as Tier X additions. Check your current hangar and patch state rather than treating this guide as a complete current roster. |
Choose by role, not just tier
A tier label alone does not tell you whether a plane fits your play style. Pocket Gamer identifies five roles and describes the broad trade-offs this way:
Recommended Free Tools

- Light Fighter (LF): shortest turn time, traded for lower speed and survivability.
- Fighter (F): fast, but fragile.
- Bomber (B): durable, but turns slowly.
- Attack Aircraft (A): fast and damaging, relatively balanced overall, but lightly armored.
- Multirole Fighter (MF): combines good speed, medium armor, and damage.
Start by deciding what job you want to do: turn and pursue, stay alive under pressure, deliver bomb damage, deal balanced damage, or use suspended weapons. For a fair comparison between two candidates, compare the same tier and similar upgrade level across turn time, speed, survivability, damage, and armament. The available guide does not supply a complete standardized stat table, so its descriptions should not be converted into a numeric ranking.

Why upgrades and matchmaking can change the answer
A plane’s name is only part of its strength. Ten Square Games Support says rarity, Hangar Workshop perks, module upgrades, and battle power-ups also affect aircraft strength. It identifies four rarity levels—Common, Rare, Epic, and Legendary—and says rarity influences power within a tier. [Ten Square Games Support]
Support says matchmaking is based on the highest-tier aircraft selected for battle. Aircraft roughly one tier above or below that choice may appear, with a wider spread possible when the lobby itself has a wider tier mix. Its example: selecting only Tier I planes can avoid opponents flying above Tier II. That makes a higher-tier plane a progression choice as well as a combat choice; consider the opposition you may encounter when selecting your lineup.

What changed in progression and aircraft availability
In a July 7, 2026 update, publisher Ten Square Games described changes to rarity, blueprint distribution, unlock costs, and upgrade pacing. It said Common aircraft were made easier to unlock and rarer planes more clearly differentiated within each tier. The publisher also described the F-16 campaign as time-limited and said jets were, at that stage, available only within campaigns. Do not assume a campaign aircraft is an ordinary permanent hangar unlock without checking the current game. [Ten Square Games update]
