Minecraft Dungeons II is an approachable action-RPG sequel with expanded character builds and room for up to four players on Nintendo Switch 2. Its connected world and co-op give the dungeon-crawling loop a welcome lift, but launch reviews also point to repetition, an uneven endgame and bugs. Those criticisms come from a review played on Xbox Series X, not Switch 2: there is not enough evidence here to judge the Nintendo version’s performance.
Is Minecraft Dungeons II worth playing on Switch 2?
If you want an accessible action-RPG to play alone or with friends, Minecraft Dungeons II has a lot going for it. The combat is easy to approach, while gear and enchantments offer room to experiment with different builds. The sequel also moves beyond discrete missions into a more connected world, giving exploration a larger role.

That foundation does not make every part of the adventure equally compelling. GamesRadar+ praised the balance and experimentation but found the action started to feel samey after about five hours, and described the endgame as more frustrating. Its review also reported bugs, including getting stuck after a jump and keys or follower characters disappearing until a reload. Those are that reviewer’s observations, not proof that every player will encounter the issues.
Crucially for a Switch 2 buying decision, GamesRadar+ played its review copy on Xbox Series X. The available reviews do not establish Switch 2 frame rate, resolution, load times, battery life or stability. The assessment of the game’s design is useful context, but it should not be mistaken for a technical verdict on Nintendo’s hardware.

What is new in the sequel?
A more connected world
Mojang’s launch description sets the story amid rifts across the Overworld, the Sift dimension and the Illager High Council. Xbox Wire’s preview describes a shift away from a sequence of separate missions toward a fixed, connected world with dungeons to explore. The preview also highlights a jump ability and more build options. These are publisher descriptions and preview information, rather than independent Switch 2 testing.
More ways to shape a character
Builds draw on weapons, armor, enchants, talismans and artifacts, according to the official launch description. Nintendo Japan says armor is divided into four parts—head, torso, leggings and boots—and talismans grant passive effects such as increased attack power or loot-drop rates. Talismans level up over time, strengthening their effects. Together, the expanded slots give players more ways to tune a character than simply choosing a weapon.

GamesRadar+ found the combat accessible to younger players while still rewarding players who pay attention to enchantments and experiment with gear. That balance is a strength if you want a game that is easy to start but offers some decisions to make as you progress.
How does Switch 2 co-op work?
Nintendo lists support for one to four players both on one system and online. Nintendo Japan adds that local and online play can be combined: for example, two players can share a console while two more join over the internet. It also describes matchmaking. Online features require an internet connection and a Nintendo Switch Online membership, sold separately.

This flexibility is the clearest reason the game may appeal to a group. You can play solo, gather people around one Switch 2, or combine couch play with friends connecting remotely. The official Xbox Wire podcast interview with developer Laura de Llorens describes mixed couch-and-online co-op as a new feature compared with the first Dungeons.
How long is the story, and what is the endgame like?
GamesRadar+ estimates the main story takes around 10 hours. Treat that as one reviewer’s approximate campaign estimate, not a guaranteed completion time; pace and play style can change how long it takes.

- Jump into a surprising Mix of gameplay styles. This is the Police 2 draws on different genres and mechanics, merging them into a one-of-a-kind story driven experience.
- Participate in a harsh story where No One is completely innocent.
- Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Your subordinates aren't just some resource; they are living people with their own strengths, weaknesses, fears and prejudices.
Beyond the campaign, the available review evidence is mixed. Windows Central’s launch-window roundup describes improvements to build variety, combat, traversal, exploration and post-game activities, while also noting criticism of repetition, loot bloat and progression-blocking bugs. GamesRadar+ likewise enjoyed the action but found the endgame more frustrating. These are critics’ assessments, not a formal aggregate score.

Nintendo Japan announced a Switch 2 package edition scheduled for September 30, 2026, and a separate original-Switch package edition scheduled for November 10, 2026. Those announced dates do not confirm a physical Switch 2 release in the U.S., current stock, what is on the cartridge or compatibility for a specific imported copy. Check the listing’s region and format before ordering.
If you are comparing platforms rather than editions, Xbox Wire says the Xbox and PC release is included with Game Pass and supports Xbox Play Anywhere. Those benefits apply to the Xbox/PC option, not the Nintendo version.
Quick Recap
Who should play it?
- Good fit: players looking for an approachable action-RPG, friends who want local or online co-op, and fans interested in experimenting with gear and builds.
- Think twice: players who need a Switch 2-specific performance assessment, or who are especially sensitive to repetition, loot overload, endgame frustration or the bugs reported by reviewers on other platforms.
- New to the series: Mojang says the sequel is standalone; playing the first Minecraft Dungeons is not required.
