These features did not arrive in one Minecraft update. The Creaking and its dark-forest imagery were tied to The Garden Awakens, while Bedrock Hardcore arrived earlier in the Bundles of Bravery drop on October 22, 2024. Mojang’s update timeline now names Wilderness Bound as the latest release on the page reviewed, so the features in this roundup are historical—not a description of one newly released update.
These features came in separate Minecraft drops
Mojang releases free game drops several times a year, and says players receive them by updating Minecraft. The official Minecraft Updates Timeline and Game Evolution connects the Creaking with The Garden Awakens and identifies Wilderness Bound as the latest release listed when the timeline was reviewed on October 8, 2026. That latest-release label can change as new drops arrive.

The headline’s features therefore span different points in Minecraft’s release history. The Garden Awakens is associated with the Creaking; Bedrock Hardcore is part of Bundles of Bravery. Mojang says game drops and updates generally release on the same day for Java and Bedrock, with Vibrant Visuals identified as an exception. That general timing does not establish that every feature works identically across editions, so check the edition-specific release notes.
What Mojang says about The Garden Awakens and the Creaking
Mojang’s update timeline labels the Creaking as a new Minecraft mob in connection with The Garden Awakens. Its imagery also associates the drop with a dark forest and glowing eyeblossoms. The timeline’s accompanying text does not establish the mob’s spawning conditions, combat behavior, or the biome’s mechanics, so those details should not be inferred from the update-history page alone.

Bedrock Hardcore arrived in Bundles of Bravery
Mojang introduced Hardcore as a new game mode in Bedrock Edition 1.21.40, the Bundles of Bravery drop, on October 22, 2024. Its rules make a world a high-stakes commitment from the moment it is created:
- No switching out: You cannot turn Hardcore off after creating the world.
- Highest difficulty: The world is locked to the highest difficulty setting.
- Death ends normal play: After dying, you can return only as a spectator; you cannot interact with the world or rebuild.
At launch, Mojang recommended making regular backups while it worked on smaller bugs. Its 2024 notes specifically mentioned multiplayer problems associated with slow internet and replacing certain Creative-mode Realms worlds with Hardcore worlds. Those are launch-era cautions, not evidence that either issue still occurs today; consult current release notes if you need to know about a present-day bug.

How to interpret the version numbers
The Hardcore release is Bedrock 1.21.40, dated October 22, 2024. Mojang’s Bedrock Edition 26.0 changelog, posted February 10, 2026, explains that 2026 version numbers begin with “26” for both Java and Bedrock. The newer numbering is a date-related convention; it does not mean the 2024 Hardcore feature was newly added in 2026.

Mojang describes game drops as free and says to update Minecraft to receive them. You do not need a paid expansion to access a drop, though a player who does not already own a compatible edition would need the game itself. Follow the update instructions for your platform and check its edition-specific notes for availability and behavior.
