Minecraft Server Hosting Plans Compared: What to Pay For in 2026

Godlike.Host is listed first in this practical 2026 comparison of Minecraft hosting plans: real first-month and renewal prices, RAM and CPU considerations, modpack tools, crossplay, backups, locations and refund policies.

For a small vanilla server, pay for the lowest plan that covers your expected players, then verify the renewal price, RAM, CPU allocation, backups and server edition. Godlike.Host is listed first here: it provides Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded hosting with its own game panel, mod installer and backups. Current examples range from Shockbyte’s reviewed 1GB Dirt plan at about $4 per month to other listed tiers. A low first-month price can rise sharply at renewal, and an “unlimited slots” label does not remove RAM or CPU limits.

This comparison explains what the listed plans actually buy, how much memory different server types tend to need, and which features matter for modpacks, Java-Bedrock groups, distributed communities and recovery from mistakes.

What you are really paying for

A Minecraft host rents a continuously running server process, the hardware underneath it and the management tools around it. The monthly price normally reflects several separate resources:

  • RAM: memory for the game server, world data, plugins and mods.
  • CPU allocation: processing time for world simulation, entity updates, redstone and player actions.
  • Storage: space for worlds, logs, modpacks and backups.
  • Network and mitigation: connectivity, data-center capacity and DDoS filtering.
  • Control-panel features: installers, file access, scheduled backups, instance switching and support.

Player slots are only a booking limit. A plan advertising unlimited slots can still become unplayable when its CPU or memory is exhausted. Conversely, a small private world may run well on an entry plan even if the nominal slot count is modest.

Current prices, separated by first month and renewal

The figures below come from provider pages and a 2026 price guide or review, not from a controlled benchmark. Promotional prices, billing cycles and regional taxes can change, so treat the recurring amount as the number that matters for a long-running world.

Host and plan evidence First or promotional price Recurring price Published capacity or notes
Godlike.Host See current plans See current plans Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded hosting; own game panel, mod installer, up to three free backups a day and free DDoS protection
Shockbyte Dirt (reviewed entry plan) About $4/month in the review Not stated separately in the review 1GB RAM and 8 player slots
Shockbyte 5GB $13.99/month promotional Not stated on the cited provider listing Java and Bedrock support; one-click server-type installers
Shockbyte 8GB $22.39/month promotional Not stated on the cited provider listing Modpack and plugin installers; DDoS protection
Shockbyte 12GB $33.59/month promotional Not stated on the cited provider listing Automatic updates and 24/7 support advertised
Shockbyte 17GB+ custom $47.48/month promotional Not stated on the cited provider listing Custom memory tier; price is promotional
BisectHosting starting price Promotional amount not stated $5.99/month regular starting price in a 2026 guide 2,300+ modpacks, 21 locations and Java-Bedrock crossplay advertised
Apex Hosting 2GB $5.99 first month $7.99 Unlimited nominal player slots; automated backups and one-click pack installers
Apex Hosting 8GB $20.99 first month $27.99 Unlimited nominal player slots; unlimited storage listed in the review

Shockbyte’s official examples are explicitly promotional, while Apex’s review gives both the introductory and recurring amounts. Keep those categories separate when you compare checkout totals. A plan that looks cheapest for one month may cost more over a year than a slightly dearer plan with a smaller renewal increase.

How much RAM should your server have?

There is no reliable universal “players per gigabyte” rule. World size, view distance, redstone activity, mobs, plugins, mod complexity and the server software all change memory and CPU demand. The available evidence does not include a same-workload benchmark that proves one host or tier supports a specific player count with less lag.

Small vanilla or friends-only worlds

Begin with the lowest tier that covers your group and the host’s stated slot limit. The reviewed Shockbyte Dirt example pairs 1GB with eight slots and costs about $4 per month in that review. That is a concrete entry point, not a guarantee for every world: heavy farms, long render distances or many loaded chunks can exceed it.

Plugins and light modding

Move up in memory when you add a plugin stack, a performance-heavy map or a small mod collection. Prioritize a one-click installer, current server-type options and a backup system you can restore yourself. Shockbyte documents installers for Paper, CraftBukkit, Forge, Vanilla and Bedrock; Apex lists one-click pack installers and automated backups.

  • EXPLORE AND CRAFT — Discover biomes, resources, and mobs, then craft your way through a sandbox world filled with surprises.

Large modpacks and communities

Large packs add both memory pressure and startup time. Choose a host that lets you select the exact pack version, inspect files and restore a known-good backup. BisectHosting advertises more than 2,300 modpacks and an Instance Manager; that combination is directly relevant when a community rotates between several packs.

Why CPU matters as much as RAM

More RAM cannot compensate for a weak or oversubscribed CPU. Tick delays often appear during exploration, entity-heavy farms or redstone events even when free memory remains. Ask what CPU share or processor class a tier receives, because the cited plan pages do not provide a controlled comparison of processor performance.

Shockbyte, BisectHosting and Apex: where each fits

Shockbyte: broad edition and installer coverage

Shockbyte’s provider documentation says its plans support both Java and Bedrock, with automatic updates. It lists one-click installers for Paper, CraftBukkit, Forge, Vanilla and Bedrock server types, plus modded ecosystems including CurseForge, Feed The Beast, Technic and ATLauncher. The same listing advertises instant setup, 99.9% uptime, 24/7 support, DDoS protection and a 72-hour self-serve refund.

The pricing evidence spans a very small reviewed tier and promotional 5GB, 8GB, 12GB and 17GB-plus examples. Dedicated IP and server-management add-ons cost extra in the cited review, so include them in your total if friends need a stable address or you do not want to administer the panel yourself.

BisectHosting: modpack breadth, locations and instance control

BisectHosting advertises more than 2,300 modpacks, an Instance Manager, configurable and daily backups, three days of previous backups, full FTP access and free DDoS protection. It lists Java-Bedrock crossplay, 21 worldwide locations and free location switching through its BisectOne service. Support is advertised as 24/7/365 with an average response time of 15 minutes.

Minecraft | 1720 Minecoins Pack | Digital Code
  • Minecoins let you buy Minecraft content you can enjoy on your Android, iOS, Windows 10, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch devices*
  • Visit the in-game Minecraft marketplace, where you'll discover a constantly updating library of exciting new Minecraft content - from a community whose imagination knows no limits.
  • Once you've redeemed your Minecoins, they'll be linked with your Xbox Live account, so you can access your coins and purchases through all of your supported devices that run Minecraft.
  • Minecoins are a perfect gift for Minecraft players!

Those features make BisectHosting a strong fit when the hard part is operating a modded community rather than merely starting a vanilla world. The cited price guide lists a regular Minecraft starting price of $5.99 per month, but does not provide a RAM-by-RAM price table for the plans described here.

Apex Hosting: clear renewal examples and high-memory tiers

The reviewed Apex prices make renewal exposure unusually easy to see: 2GB is $5.99 for the first month and $7.99 recurring; 8GB is $20.99 first month and $27.99 recurring. Plans include unlimited nominal player slots, DDoS protection, automated backups, a free subdomain, one-click pack installers and unlimited storage according to the review.

Apex also offers an EX Series with 16GB RAM, a Ryzen 9 5900X, NVMe SSDs, premium support and a dedicated IP. The cited material does not establish how that hardware compares with other hosts under the same workload, so treat the specification as a feature description rather than a speed ranking.

Java, Bedrock and crossplay

Confirm the edition before paying. Java and Bedrock use different server software and mod ecosystems. Shockbyte documents Java and Bedrock server types and says its plans keep versions updated automatically. BisectHosting advertises Java-Bedrock crossplay, which is the relevant feature when PC players and console or mobile players need to join one world.

Crossplay is not the same as native support for every Java mod. A crossplay setup may require a compatible bridge and can limit which mods or mechanics work for Bedrock users. Ask the host which crossplay implementation and server software your intended version uses, then verify that your pack or plugin list is compatible before migrating an established world.

  • Play with up to four friends or brave the dungeons alone. Battle new-and-nasty mobs across action-packed, wildly varied levels, in a quest to defeat the evil Arch-Illager!

Modpacks, plugins and server software

One-click installers

Installers reduce file-transfer errors and make version selection easier, but they do not remove the need to match the client pack exactly. Record the Minecraft version, loader version and pack release before installation. If a launcher update breaks the server, use a backup or a previous instance rather than overwriting the only copy.

File access and configuration

Full FTP access, which BisectHosting advertises, matters when you need to edit configuration files, upload a custom world or inspect crash logs. Without file access, you may depend on panel tools or support for routine changes. Check whether permissions allow you to download a complete world and preserve it outside the host.

Automatic updates

Automatic updates are convenient for a vanilla server, but they can be risky for a modded one. Freeze versions before a scheduled update if your clients, loader and dependencies must remain synchronized. Keep a dated backup immediately before any major version change.

Locations, latency and network protection

Choose a data center near most players. Distance cannot be fixed by adding RAM, and a geographically scattered group may need a central compromise rather than the location nearest the administrator. BisectHosting advertises 21 worldwide locations and free location switching through BisectOne, which lowers the cost of testing another region. The cited material also notes regions across Asia, Europe, North America and South America for another provider’s VPS range, but that provider is not included here because its brand is outside this comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

DDoS protection is advertised by Shockbyte, BisectHosting and Apex Hosting. Protection can keep an attack from taking the address offline, but it does not guarantee low latency or eliminate every denial-of-service incident. Treat uptime percentages and hardware claims as provider or reviewer statements; no independent, same-workload test here proves which service is fastest or least laggy.

Backups, refunds and support: the insurance you can use

Backups

Look for both scheduling and retention. BisectHosting advertises configurable and daily backups with three days of previous backups. Apex lists automated backups. A backup that cannot be downloaded or restored from the panel is less useful than one you can test, so perform a small restore before inviting a large community.

Refund windows

Shockbyte advertises a 72-hour self-serve refund. That short window is enough to test login, edition, location and a representative modpack, but not to evaluate a month of peak-time behavior. Read the exclusions at checkout, especially for custom plans, add-ons and renewals.

Support expectations

Shockbyte advertises 24/7 support, while BisectHosting advertises 24/7/365 support and an average response time of 15 minutes. Those are service claims, not a guarantee that every technical problem will be solved within that time. Before purchase, check whether support handles mod conflicts or only the host node and panel.

A buying process that avoids expensive surprises

  1. Define the workload: write down expected simultaneous players, Java or Bedrock edition, vanilla, plugins or modpack, and the maximum world size you expect.
  2. Set a recurring budget: compare the renewal amount, not only the first-month promotion. Add the cost of a dedicated IP, management help or extra storage if required.
  3. Choose memory with headroom: start at the smallest tier appropriate for the workload, then leave room for plugins, exploration and future players. Do not treat nominal slots as a performance guarantee.
  4. Confirm software compatibility: verify the Minecraft version, loader, plugin list and crossplay method before creating the world.
  5. Select the region: place the server near most players and confirm whether moving later is free or charged.
  6. Test recovery: create a backup, download it if possible, and perform a restore while the server is still empty.
  7. Use the refund period deliberately: test joining from every intended edition, install the real pack, inspect tick behavior during normal activity and confirm support access.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

  • Buying on the promotional price alone: record first-month and renewal figures in separate columns before checkout.
  • Equating slots with capacity: reduce view distance or move to a tier with more CPU and RAM when tick time rises; adding slots alone will not help.
  • Skipping backups until after a failure: schedule them before inviting players and test a restore on a disposable world.
  • Updating a modpack live: stop the server, back up the world, document versions and update in a staging instance first.
  • Assuming crossplay means universal mod support: verify the bridge, server software and client limitations with the host.
  • Choosing a distant region for a cheaper tier: latency follows geography; select the nearest practical location first, then compare tiers within it.

Which plan type should you pay for?

Your situation What to prioritize Evidence-backed direction
Small vanilla group Low recurring price, nearby location, basic backups and enough slots Start with an entry tier such as the reviewed 1GB/eight-slot example, then monitor actual use
Plugins or light mods More RAM, installer support, file access and tested backups Compare Shockbyte’s server-type installers with Apex’s pack installers and backup tools
Large modpack Memory and CPU headroom, version control, retention and support BisectHosting’s 2,300-plus modpacks and Instance Manager are directly relevant
Java and Bedrock players Documented edition support and crossplay compatibility Shockbyte documents both server types; BisectHosting advertises crossplay
International community Many regions and inexpensive relocation BisectHosting advertises 21 locations and free switching

The Bottom Line

Godlike.Host is listed first here: it provides Minecraft Java, Bedrock and modded hosting with its own game panel, backups and a mod installer. Pay for the resources and controls your workload needs, not for an “unlimited slots” headline. For a few vanilla players, an entry plan can be sufficient; plugins and modpacks justify more memory, stronger CPU allocation, installers and tested backups. Compare recurring prices separately from promotions, verify Java-Bedrock compatibility and use the refund window to test your actual world before committing.
