Minecraft turned 15 on May 17, 2024, and marked the milestone with a 15-day celebration that began two days earlier. The campaign brought together free in-game rewards, maps and activities, limited-time discounts, creator events, collaborations and a planned live experience—not one festival at a single venue.
When did Minecraft turn 15?
Minecraft’s anniversary was May 17, 2024. The original game, then called Cave Game, was released on May 17, 2009, according to Minecraft’s anniversary article. The celebration campaign began May 15 and ran for 15 days, as announced in the official Minecraft video description.
What was included in the 15-day celebration?
Minecraft’s June 18, 2024 campaign recap describes a mix of digital content, community programming, collaborations and merchandise. Its highlights included:
- Free digital content: an anniversary cape, a Java Realms tenth-anniversary map, the Bedrock 15 Year Journey map, a party add-on and other Marketplace add-ons.
- Creator and community activities: reward activities connected to Twitch and TikTok, commemorative art and a time capsule. The recap also described an MC Championship live event featuring 40 streamers.
- Collaborations: Minecraft-themed content in Forza Horizon 5 and Microsoft Casual Suite, plus a LEGO activity and a Higround keyboard collection.
- A conservation-themed world: a Minecraft National Park world created with The Nature Conservancy. In its recap, Minecraft reported a $100,000 donation to the organization connected to the world.
- A live experience announcement: Minecraft said the first announced Minecraft Experience stop would open in Dallas, Texas, on September 20, 2024. That announcement is historical; it does not establish the experience’s current venue or schedule.
Minecraft’s retrospective also listed discounts of up to 50% across platforms and up to 70% on mobile. These were campaign-era sale ceilings reported in June 2024, not current offers.

Which rewards and deals are still available?
The anniversary recap documents what the campaign offered in 2024; it does not establish that its cape, maps, add-ons or reward activities can still be claimed. Treat the celebration promotions as historical unless a current official Minecraft page confirms otherwise.
Nintendo’s sale announcement specified an end date of June 4, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. PT. That offer has expired. The recap’s discount figures likewise describe the 2024 celebration, not a sale running now.
