What is Minecraft: Dungeons & Dragons: A New Quest?
Created by Everbloom Games and Wizards of the Coast, A New Quest is a story-driven Minecraft add-on and sequel to the earlier Dungeons & Dragons DLC. Its adventure follows Katra and Vaer in the Forgotten Realms. Dark forces have stolen Vaer’s body, and the pair search for Thesserai the Sage’s Deck of Many Things.
The journey visits Candlekeep, the Sword Coast, Icewind Dale, and Caer-Dineval. Mojang’s reveal names enemies including yetis, owlbears, Bheur hags, and Mind Flayers. Mojang’s February 20, 2025 announcement introduced the adventure as a new quest rather than a requirement to own the first crossover pack.
Which classes can you play?
Players can choose one of four classes:
- Barbarian
- Rogue
- Wizard
- Paladin
Do you need the first D&D DLC?
No. The Xbox Store listing identifies A New Quest as a sequel but says the original DLC is not required to play it. You can start with this add-on without buying or playing the first one.

What do you need to play it?
You need the latest version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, which is sold separately from the DLC. The Xbox listing also says a game is required and lists Minecraft as compatible. Check that you have the Bedrock edition for your platform before purchasing; owning the add-on alone does not provide the base game.
Mobile memory requirements
Mojang’s announcement specifies at least 4 GB of RAM for mobile devices and recommends 6 GB for the best experience.

Platforms and the Nintendo Switch caveat
The Xbox Store listing names Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and gives February 20, 2025 as the release date. In its launch announcement on that date, Mojang said it was “unable to deliver” the DLC on Nintendo Switch “at this time” and asked readers to check back. That statement describes the launch situation; it does not establish whether Switch availability has changed since then. Confirm current availability with the relevant store before buying.
How much does A New Quest cost?
The US Xbox Store listing displayed $8.99 when reviewed on October 8, 2026. This is a regional listing value observed on that date, not a guaranteed current price or a price for other storefronts. Is the Dragon Mask still free?
No. The Dragon Mask Character Creator item offer in Mojang’s 2025 announcement could be redeemed through March 20, 2025, with a limit of one per person. That deadline has passed, so the offer should not be treated as currently available.
