Mirror’s Edge Catalyst performance depends on resolution, graphics preset, and the scene being tested; average FPS alone does not show whether play feels smooth. In GamersNexus’ 2016 tests, a GTX 1070 averaged 94.7 FPS at 1440p Ultra, while a GTX 1080 averaged 51 FPS at 4K High. Those are results from one historical test setup—not predictions for current graphics cards or every PC.
How to read Mirror’s Edge Catalyst benchmark results
For a useful comparison, a benchmark should identify the graphics card and VRAM, CPU, system memory, driver, game version, operating system, resolution, preset, and any changed settings or overclock. It should also state the route and duration, and report average FPS alongside 1% or 0.1% lows, or frame-time data, when available. Those low-percentile measures can reveal uneven delivery that an average conceals.
The route matters. GamersNexus used a repeatable 30-second excerpt from the first training course, disabled V-Sync, and turned off the game’s VRAM throttling feature so the game would not dynamically adjust settings as memory use changed. The publication cautioned that later areas and combat—especially more complex fights—can behave differently and be harder to reproduce. Its results are therefore best treated as a controlled snapshot, not a promise about every part of a playthrough. GamersNexus’ benchmark and methodology
Published results: examples, not current GPU guidance
GamersNexus tested selected combinations at 1080p, 1440p, and 4K, with additional High and Hyper comparisons at 1080p. The figures below are averages reported for that publication’s hardware, driver, settings, and test route in 2016; they are not directly comparable with another review unless its setup and scene match.

| Test configuration | Reported result |
|---|---|
| GTX 1070, 1440p Ultra | 94.7 FPS average |
| GTX 1080, 1080p Ultra | 137 FPS average |
| GTX 1080, 4K High | 51 FPS average |
In the same historical report, GamersNexus said its GTX 970 and GTX 1070 configurations stayed above 60 FPS at 1080p Ultra. That statement applies only to its tested systems. The publication also found that its tested GPUs faced a more challenging load at 4K, where lower frame rates matter in a fast-moving game. The Notebookcheck benchmark index is another historical reference, but results should still be read with their individual test configurations in view.
Why average FPS does not tell the whole story
A high average can coexist with dips or inconsistent frame delivery. That distinction is especially relevant in Catalyst: fast traversal makes sudden slowdowns noticeable, and combat or visually complex areas may put different demands on a system than a short training-course run. Prefer reviews that provide low-percentile FPS or frame-time charts as well as averages; when those details are absent, do not assume the average describes the worst moments.

Different test scenes can also produce different outcomes. DSOGaming’s PC performance analysis used a different setup and scene and included CPU-thread simulations, so its results should not be merged with GamersNexus’ as though they were repeated runs of one test. DSOGaming’s analysis
VRAM readings and the game’s throttling setting
GamersNexus disabled the in-game VRAM throttling feature for consistency: that feature can dynamically change settings according to memory consumption, complicating a fixed-preset comparison. During its brief test passes, the publication measured the following memory use:

| Resolution and preset | Measured VRAM use |
|---|---|
| 1080p Ultra | 5,020 MB |
| 1080p Hyper | 7,455 MB |
| 4K High | 6,615 MB |
These are measurements from short passes in that 2016 test, not universal minimum requirements or present-day hardware recommendations. VRAM use can vary with scene and settings, and a result obtained with throttling disabled is not equivalent to an ordinary run with the feature enabled.
Which settings are worth checking?
Resolution scale
Resolution scale changes the internal render resolution. GamersNexus described 1.0 as matching the configured in-game resolution, making it a useful baseline when comparing results. A different scale changes the rendering workload, so it should be reported rather than silently altered.

Reflection quality
Reflection quality can affect performance near mirrored buildings, according to GamersNexus. If performance varies by location, note the setting and scene instead of assuming a single average captures the change everywhere.
Mesh quality
Mesh quality affects geometry detail as well as performance. Changing it may trade visual detail for speed, but the source does not establish a universal FPS gain for a particular adjustment.

High, Ultra, and Hyper presets
Preset labels alone do not guarantee a fair comparison: settings can differ between presets, and reviewers may change individual options. GamersNexus compared High and Hyper as well as Ultra in selected tests. PCGamesN reported that its own system ran in the 50s at Ultra and at 60 FPS at High, and described High as a good balance for that setup—not as a guarantee for other PCs. PCGamesN’s PC port review

- Match the conditions. Compare the same resolution, preset, resolution scale, and individual graphics settings. Check whether V-Sync or VRAM throttling was enabled.
- Check the scene and run length. A 30-second training-course excerpt is not interchangeable with an open-world route or combat encounter. Keep route and duration with each result.
- Look beyond averages. Use 1% or 0.1% lows or frame-time data where available. If a review reports only an average, treat smoothness as unverified.
- Keep system details attached. Record GPU and VRAM, CPU, memory, driver, game version, operating system, and overclock status. Do not use a 2016 result as a direct estimate for a newer GPU.
The AnandTech community megathread is useful as a historical index to contemporary discussion. A user there described tuning shadow draw distance, but that is anecdotal experience rather than a controlled performance finding.
