To check whether a particular MLB game is available live on MLB.TV, use the official MLB.TV ZIP-code blackout checker for the place you’ll watch, then check the game itself. ZIP results address local territory restrictions; national, special-event, and postseason rights can block individual games separately. MLB.TV is primarily an out-of-market service, so a subscription does not guarantee live video of your local club.
How to check if an MLB game is blacked out where you are
- Open MLB’s MLB.TV subscription page and enter the ZIP code for the location where you plan to watch. Use the location where you’ll actually be viewing, not simply your home address if you’re elsewhere.
- Check the specific game you want, not just the team. The checker helps identify local home-territory restrictions, but game-specific national or event exclusivity can affect availability separately.
- Confirm the current app and package for your market. For the 2026 season, MLB says US customers can purchase and stream MLB.TV through the ESPN app; US MLB.TV subscribers can also use the MLB app after linking accounts. The ESPN offering covers out-of-market games and remains subject to blackouts.
- If the result appears wrong for your location, check location permissions and network conditions before treating it as a rights restriction. If the problem persists, contact MLB customer service using the current contact details in MLB’s official notice.
What MLB blackout rules mean
Availability depends on the game date, your viewing location, and local, regional, national, and international broadcast exclusivities. MLB states that home-territory restrictions apply whether the club is playing at home or away, and even when the game is not televised in that territory. Some US clubs’ territories may extend beyond the United States.
That means a game can be unavailable on MLB.TV because your location falls in a club’s home television territory, regardless of whether the team is on the road. MLB.TV is designed principally for out-of-market games, not as a universal way to watch every local team live.
Why a game may be unavailable beyond local territory rules
Some regular-season games, special events, and postseason games have separate MLB exclusivities. Those can apply domestically or internationally, so passing a ZIP-code territory check does not guarantee that a particular game has live streaming rights. Consult the game listing and current unavailable-games information for the event you plan to watch.

- Live controls to pause and rewind live video
- Enhanced Gameday pitch-by-pitch features, including realistic ballpark renderings from all 30 MLB parks

International availability is not a single blanket exception to US rules. For example, MLB specifically says live San Francisco Giants and Athletics games are blacked out in Guam; that is a territory-specific rule, not a general rule for overseas viewers.
When the blackout checker or stream says your location cannot be verified
A failed location check does not necessarily mean the game is contractually blacked out. MLB identifies disabled location services, weak GPS visibility, and some cellular, hotspot, satellite, hotel, corporate, or VPN connections as possible reasons location verification can fail.

What you can watch when live video is blocked
MLB says a blocked live game becomes available as an archived game approximately 90 minutes after it concludes. MLB.TV terms say live audio is included for unavailable games, and MLB’s help information describes live home and away radio broadcasts as available without blackouts. Neither archive nor radio provides live video of a blocked game.
MLB Network is another option for eligible pay-TV subscribers. MLB says authenticated streaming is available through most major US pay-TV providers, while regular-season MLB Network game telecasts are generally subject to local blackouts. MLB’s FAQ says MLB Network postseason game telecasts are available in the US and Canada without local blackouts; check both provider access and the specific telecast.

Which app and device should you check for 2026?
For the 2026 season, MLB describes MLB.TV as available for purchase and streaming through ESPN in the US, with account linking for access in the MLB app. MLB’s 2026 page lists Roku among devices supported by the ESPN app. Device support does not change blackout eligibility, and compatibility can depend on the specific device and app version, so verify it before purchase.
These 2026 distribution details are specific to the US market and season; confirm current availability for your location before subscribing.
