mmreg.dll belongs to the old MUSICMATCH JUKEBOX application, not to Windows. If Windows reports that mmreg.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the complete Musicmatch installation rather than downloading a replacement DLL.
This guide applies to Windows 11 and Windows 10 systems running, or still trying to start, Musicmatch Jukebox.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
C:Program FilesMUSICMATCHMUSICMATCH Jukeboxmmreg.dll
The exact folder can differ if Musicmatch was installed to another drive or directory.
mmreg.dll is not a Windows system DLL, Microsoft runtime, device driver, or DirectX component. There is no reliable basis for placing it in either of these folders:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Microsoft explains that ordinary application DLLs are normally searched for in the application’s own directory before Windows system directories. See Microsoft’s DLL search-order documentation.
Historical inventories describe mmreg.dll as a Win32, or 32-bit, file. That is consistent with Musicmatch being a legacy 32-bit application, even when it runs on 64-bit Windows. Do not treat conflicting historical file sizes or version labels as a universal specification for a replacement file.
First, identify the exact failure
Common reported messages include:
- “This application failed to start because mmreg.dll was not found.”
- “The file mmreg.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: mmreg.dll.”
- “Failed to load mmreg.dll.”
- “Error loading mmreg.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The program can’t start because mmreg.dll is missing from your computer.”
These examples come from historical file-information records rather than current Microsoft or Musicmatch documentation.
The wording matters. “The specified module could not be found” can mean either that mmreg.dll is missing or that another DLL required by mmreg.dll is missing.
Before changing anything, note:
- Whether the error appears only when launching Musicmatch
- Whether it appears during every Windows startup
- Whether Musicmatch is still listed in Installed apps
- Whether the problem began after antivirus quarantine, cleanup, uninstalling, restoring, or copying the program
- Whether the message names another DLL, such as
MFC71U.DLL,MSVCP70.DLL, orMSVCR70.DLL

- Search for Musicmatch or MUSICMATCH Jukebox.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, Modify, or Repair, if one is available.

Older desktop programs often do not provide a modern Repair button. If no repair option exists, use the original installer or uninstall and reinstall the application.
Reinstall from a trusted source
Use, in this order:
- The original Musicmatch installer already saved on your computer
- An installation CD
- An OEM recovery partition or recovery utility that originally supplied the program
- A backup containing the complete installer and program package
Musicmatch Jukebox is discontinued, and a current official Musicmatch download page is not available. Avoid treating a random DLL website as an official source.

If Musicmatch is still listed:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the three-dot menu beside Musicmatch.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the trusted installer as administrator.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows once more.
- Launch Musicmatch from its newly created shortcut.
If you are using Control Panel instead:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
text
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select Musicmatch Jukebox.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Uninstall, depending on what the installer offers.
A complete reinstall restores the executable, configuration files, application libraries, and any bundled legacy components. Copying only mmreg.dll does not recreate those files.

Confirm that the file is in the right place
After reinstalling:
- Open File Explorer.
- Browse to the Musicmatch installation directory.
- Look for
mmreg.dllbeside the Musicmatch executable. - Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Check the General and Details tabs.
- Do not move it to
System32orSysWOW64.
If the file is present but Musicmatch still fails, continue to Fix 3. The error may identify a missing dependency rather than a missing mmreg.dll.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Antivirus software may have quarantined a legitimate old application file, or it may have detected a modified or unsafe copy. Do not automatically restore it.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent entries for Musicmatch or
mmreg.dll. - Open the relevant entry and review its path and detection details.
- If the file came from a trusted original installation and you are confident it is legitimate, use Restore or Allow on device, if offered.
- If its source is unknown, leave it quarantined.
- Run a full scan before attempting another launch.
Microsoft notes that restoring a quarantined file can cause Defender to detect it again unless the user explicitly allows it. Read Microsoft’s guidance on Protection History.
The safer approach is usually to reinstall Musicmatch from trusted original media instead of restoring a DLL downloaded from the internet. Do not create a broad antivirus exclusion for the entire Windows folder or for unknown downloads.
Recommended Free Tools
If Windows Security reports malware, disconnect the computer from untrusted networks if appropriate, complete the scan, and do not restore the file until the system has been checked.
Fix 3: Find the next missing dependency
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
A program can report mmreg.dll even when that file exists. The DLL may fail to load because another library it needs is absent, incompatible, or damaged.
Read the entire error window carefully. Look for another filename, especially:
MFC71U.DLLMSVCP70.DLLMSVCR70.DLL
If another Microsoft runtime is named:
- Write down the exact filename from the error.
- Confirm whether Musicmatch is a 32-bit application.
- Use Microsoft’s official Visual C++ Redistributable downloads.
- Select the x86 package when the failing program is 32-bit.
- Install only the runtime version required by the application.
- Restart Windows.
- Try Musicmatch again.
Installing only an x64 runtime does not supply the x86 runtime required by a 32-bit process. Different Visual C++ runtime generations can coexist, and installing a current package does not guarantee that it replaces an older dependency.
No direct dependency mapping has been verified showing that a particular Visual C++ package universally fixes mmreg.dll. Use the filename in the actual error and the application’s original installer as your guide.

If reinstalling the runtime does not help, reinstall Musicmatch completely. A copied program may lack registry entries, codecs, services, or bundled libraries that the installer normally creates.
Fix 4: Try compatibility settings
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Compatibility mode cannot recreate a missing DLL, but it can help an otherwise complete legacy installation start on a newer Windows version.
- Locate the Musicmatch executable or desktop shortcut.
- Right-click it and choose Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version from the list.
- Select Run this program as an administrator if the program requires it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch Musicmatch.
If the same mmreg.dll message remains, compatibility mode is not the cause of the missing file. Return to the repair or reinstall steps.
Fix 5: Repair broader Windows component corruption
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
SFC and DISM repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a private Musicmatch DLL, so use them when Windows has other symptoms, such as damaged system utilities, failed updates, or multiple unrelated application errors.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- At the prompt, run:
cmd
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
cmd
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Try Musicmatch again.
Microsoft’s System File Checker instructions recommend running DISM before SFC.
If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, Windows protected files are probably not the cause. If it reports repaired files but Musicmatch still fails, repair or reinstall Musicmatch itself.
When repeatedly hunting through Windows components becomes time-consuming, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds; repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling Musicmatch remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 20–60 minutes
Use System Restore when the problem began immediately after a program installation, driver change, cleanup operation, or Windows update and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
text
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be changed.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart and complete the restoration.
System Restore normally affects system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs, not personal documents. Microsoft provides further guidance on System Restore.
If the error began because Musicmatch was partially uninstalled, reinstalling the application is usually more direct than restoring the entire system.
Fix 7: Check drivers only when the error points to a driver
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
mmreg.dll is not a device driver, so Device Manager is not the normal repair location. Check drivers only if the error began with audio hardware failures, an unrecognized device, or a separate driver-related message.

- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Do not remove random audio devices in Device Manager to fix a Musicmatch DLL error. If the application itself is missing files, driver changes will not restore them.
Manually finding the correct driver for old hardware can involve checking the device model, Windows architecture, and manufacturer package. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers; installation through the full version is optional, and it cannot replace the need to reinstall Musicmatch when that program is missing mmreg.dll.
Why System32 copying is usually wrong
Do not download mmreg.dll from a random DLL site and copy it into C:WindowsSystem32.
That approach can fail because:
- The downloaded file may contain malware.
- The version may not match your Musicmatch installation.
- The architecture may be wrong.
- The file may be damaged or incomplete.
- A dependency may still be missing.
- Placing a private DLL in a system directory can create DLL search-order and security problems.
Manual copying is reasonable only when the source is a trusted backup or original installer, the file matches the application, and it is copied into the Musicmatch application directory. Even then, restoring the complete installation is preferable.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchWhy regsvr32 is usually the wrong command
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide the COM self-registration entry point DllRegisterServer, commonly used by certain ActiveX or COM components. It is not a general-purpose command for making every DLL work.
Running this command:
regsvr32 mmreg.dll
will not restore a missing file, repair a damaged installation, or supply dependencies. It may produce an error stating that the entry point is missing.
Use regsvr32 only when the software vendor’s instructions specifically identify a self-registering DLL and provide the correct architecture-specific command. For mmreg.dll, reinstalling Musicmatch is the appropriate action.
What probably caused the error
The cause is usually one of these:
| Likely cause | Appropriate response |
|---|---|
| Musicmatch was partially uninstalled or damaged | Repair or reinstall the complete program |
| Antivirus quarantined the file | Check Protection History and prefer trusted reinstallation |
| A dependent legacy runtime is missing | Install the matching official Microsoft x86 runtime |
| The program was copied from another computer | Reinstall it so its files and registration are recreated |
| The file is corrupt or incompatible | Replace the complete application installation |
| A recent system change caused broader damage | Use System Restore |
| Windows system files are damaged | Run DISM, then SFC |
| Musicmatch was removed but a startup entry remains | Remove the obsolete startup entry or uninstall remnants |
If the error appears every time Windows starts but Musicmatch is no longer installed, open Task Manager → Startup apps and look for a Musicmatch entry. Disable the obsolete entry, then remove the remaining application through Installed apps or Programs and Features. Do not restore mmreg.dll merely to satisfy a leftover startup command.

Musicmatch Jukebox is discontinued. If you cannot locate a trusted installer, repeatedly restoring isolated DLLs is not a safe long-term repair strategy.
Before removing it:
- Back up music files and playlists.
- Export or copy any files stored in the Musicmatch library folders.
- Check whether another application can import the music library.
- Uninstall Musicmatch from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Remove only clearly identified leftover Musicmatch startup entries.
Do not delete personal music files while cleaning up the obsolete application.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
C:Program FilesMUSICMATCHMUSICMATCH Jukebox
The exact path depends on the original installation.
Should I download mmreg.dll?
No, not from an unidentified DLL download website. The safe sources are a trusted original installer, installation media, OEM recovery package, or known-good backup.
Will copying mmreg.dll into System32 fix Musicmatch?
Usually not. It can create architecture, search-order, and security problems. Restore the complete Musicmatch installation instead.
Does regsvr32 mmreg.dll fix the error?
Usually no. regsvr32 applies to self-registering DLLs, not every application library.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file is present?
A dependency of mmreg.dll may be missing, or the file may be corrupt, incompatible, or the wrong architecture. Check the full error for another named DLL.
Do I need the x86 or x64 Visual C++ package?
Musicmatch is a legacy 32-bit application, so a 32-bit process generally requires the x86 runtime. Install only the runtime generation required by the actual error or original application.
Will SFC repair mmreg.dll?
No. SFC repairs protected Windows components. It is not expected to recreate a third-party Musicmatch DLL.
What if Musicmatch works only with compatibility mode?
Keep the compatibility setting if it helps, but it does not prove the installation is complete. Make sure mmreg.dll and the rest of the original program files are present.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

If Musicmatch is still required, reinstall the complete application from trusted original media. If no trustworthy installer exists and the program is no longer essential, back up the library and remove Musicmatch rather than sourcing an unknown DLL.
