Looking for modern games that feel like arcade games? These four picks capture different parts of that appeal: qomp2 reworks a classic arcade premise, Balatro turns score-building into card strategy, Brotato brings arena action and run-based upgrades, and Dave the Diver makes a repeatable day-and-night loop its hook. “Arcade vibes” here describes immediacy, replayable play, feedback, or retro-inspired design—not a formal genre label.
How these games capture arcade vibes
Arcade feel can come from a simple action that is quick to understand, repeatable rounds or runs, visible score and upgrade feedback, or an intentional nod to classic arcade design. A game does not need to be a traditional cabinet-style experience—or carry an official arcade genre label—to fit that description. The picks below cover different interpretations rather than forming a ranked top ten.
Four modern games with arcade vibes
qomp2: a modern twist on Pong
qomp2 has the most direct historical connection in this group. Atari describes it as an artful reimagining of Pong and calls its world arcade-inspired. It turns that familiar premise into a modern puzzle-platform experience, so expect a reinterpretation of arcade history rather than a traditional Pong match. Atari’s qomp2 page.
Balatro: score-chasing card strategy
Balatro is a poker-inspired roguelike deckbuilder. Across runs, you make poker hands, choose Jokers, and build scoring synergies. Its appeal is strategic rather than action-based: the arcade connection is the quick feedback and escalating score-building loop. Steam includes “Arcade” among its user-defined tags; that tag is not a formal genre classification. LocalThunk developed the game, Playstack published it, and Steam lists February 20, 2024 as its release date. Balatro on Steam.

Dave the Diver: a day-and-night hybrid
Dave the Diver is a looser fit, but a useful one if you want something beyond a shooter or score-chasing game. Its repeating rhythm alternates between diving, exploring, and fishing by day and managing a sushi restaurant by night. A mix of pixel and 3D art gives it a retro-modern presentation.
