Black Ops 7 is reported to be a progression reset for Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer, but not for Warzone. A Windows Central explainer dated October 1, 2026, says only specific MW4 pre-order rewards, unspent 2XP tokens and same-platform COD Points carry into MW4; Activision’s Warzone notice says legacy items from earlier games, including BO7, remain available there from Season 1. These rules are based on the information available before MW4’s October 23 launch and could be clarified by Activision.
What carries from Black Ops 7 into MW4 multiplayer?
The reported rule is that MW4 multiplayer uses its own progression rather than importing your BO7 collection. Here is how the main item categories differ by destination:

The MW4 multiplayer details and pre-order exceptions come from Windows Central’s October 1, 2026 explainer, not an Activision launch FAQ. Treat them as reported rules until Activision confirms them or publishes an update.
Weapons and progression
Do not expect BO7 weapon unlocks, levels or other progression to give you a head start in MW4 multiplayer. XP in MW4 unlocks weapons, equipment, perks, field upgrades and killstreaks through MW4’s own system. Activision’s published beta figure was 22 weapons across nine classes; that is a beta figure, not a guarantee of the final launch roster.

Cosmetics and the reported exceptions
Ordinary BO7 operators, blueprints and camos are not reported to transfer into MW4 multiplayer. The exceptions named in the October 1 report are the Hunter Killer operator and two universal camos made available to BO7 players who pre-ordered MW4. The report does not establish that other BO7 cosmetics will transfer.
Tokens and COD Points
The report says unspent 2XP tokens carry into MW4, so using them in BO7 is a choice rather than a prerequisite for preserving them. It also says COD Points carry when you remain on the same platform. A move between platform ecosystems is not covered by that assurance: platform-store restrictions apply, so check the terms for the account and store you use before buying or planning around a balance.

What happens to BO7 weapons and cosmetics in Warzone?
Warzone follows a different rule from MW4 multiplayer. Activision’s Season 1 notice says operators and weapons from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 remain available in Warzone, along with the skins, blueprints and camos earned or purchased for them. The notice applies to Warzone beginning with Season 1; it does not mean those items transfer into MW4 multiplayer.
Legacy weapons and loadouts
Weapons from Modern Warfare II through Black Ops 7 appear in Warzone’s Legacy loadout tab. They remain usable, but Gunsmith functionality and existing custom loadouts are not supported for legacy weapons. Activision says each legacy base weapon will have a five-attachment version, while existing blueprints retain their attachment setups. That distinction matters if you want to use a familiar weapon: expect the base weapon’s setup options to differ from a blueprint’s preserved attachments.

How legacy operator skins appear on screen
A new operator-skin toggle can replace other players’ legacy skins with MW4 operators on your screen. It is off by default and changes how other players appear to you; it does not change the operator you have equipped.

Activision lists MW4’s launch as October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. Windows Central’s October 1 explainer reports campaign early access beginning October 16 for digital pre-orders. These dates and platform details are distinct from the reported carry-forward rules, and an edition or platform choice does not by itself change which BO7 items transfer.

Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ends when Season 1 begins. If you play Warzone on either older console, that is a separate platform-support change from the retention of legacy items within Warzone on supported platforms.

Before you switch games or platforms
- Claim any available free 2XP tokens and leave unused tokens unspent if you want to use them in MW4, based on the reported carry-forward rule.
- Decide whether BO7 cosmetics matter primarily to you in Warzone or MW4 multiplayer: the reported rules treat those destinations differently.
- Check which platform you will use before buying COD Points or choosing a MW4 edition, because the COD Points carry-forward report is limited to the same platform and store restrictions apply.
- Check Activision’s latest launch FAQ for updates to pre-order rewards, COD Points and account linking before relying on the October 1 report.
