Is it really $50 cheaper?
Notebookcheck’s October 9, 2026 launch report says the transparent bundle is $50 cheaper than the older non-transparent Chromatic. ModRetro’s current listing confirms the transparent bundle’s displayed price, but does not independently document the older model’s price or verify that historical comparison. Treat the reduction as Notebookcheck’s reported comparison, not a guaranteed discount against every current listing.
Does the ModRetro Chromatic play original Game Boy cartridges?
Yes, according to ModRetro. Its product page says, “Chromatic plays all your Game Boy® and Game Boy Color® cartridges on real hardware.” The manufacturer describes the device as FPGA-based. These are ModRetro’s compatibility and hardware claims; they are not independent test results.
