What kind of game is Mon-Yu?
Set in Tir na Balc, Mon-Yu begins when the Seven Devil Kings steal treasures housed in the Dragon King’s Tower and turn the tower into a dungeon. The player forms a team, explores the floors, collects weapons and armor, grows stronger, and sets out to defeat the Devil Kings. Steam describes the game as a turn-based dungeon crawler in the tradition of the original Wizardry. Steam’s store page and Aksys Games’ official site describe its premise and core loop.
How do party building and progression work?
Aksys and Nintendo list eight classes, character portraits, rerollable ability scores, and adjustable skills. Those systems let players shape a party before taking it into the tower. Progression also comes from equipment: enemies drop gear, and heroes and their weapons and armor improve as the party advances. The official Switch product page outlines the class and customization features.
The result, on paper, is a compact loop of party setup, exploration, battles, and upgrades. That may suit players who enjoy tuning a team and chasing better equipment more than those looking for a broad, story-led role-playing adventure.

What do reviewers say about exploration and difficulty?
Reviews point to a tradeoff in the design. RPGFan’s review characterizes the game as a streamlined attempt to make dungeon crawling less alienating, while arguing that restrictive systems can reduce danger and discovery. That is a reviewer’s assessment, not an official description or a universal response; players who value elaborate exploration may find the criticism especially relevant.
Nintendo Everything’s review reports that enemies can hit hard even on the easiest setting and that escape may require an item. In other words, the cute portraits and lighthearted premise do not necessarily signal forgiving encounters. The review suggests that players who expect to retreat freely or breeze through fights may want to account for a meaningful combat challenge.

It is a less obvious fit for players who prioritize intricate exploration, a substantial narrative, or reliably forgiving combat, given the concerns raised by RPGFan and Nintendo Everything.
