Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is a planned 2027 expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, according to a TechRadar hands-on preview of a Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo. Its standout new direction is aerial traversal across floating islands, paired with a new monster and weapon-specific attacks. The preview reflects an unfinished build, so it does not confirm the final mechanics or an exact release date.
What is Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance?
Ascendance is downloadable content for Monster Hunter Wilds. In a preview published on 3 October 2026, TechRadar’s Sarah Thwaites described an expansion built around interconnected aerial archipelagoes, new weaponry and demanding hunts. TechRadar reports a 2027 release window, but gives no launch day or month. Read the TechRadar preview.
The preview does not establish a platform list, price, edition, compatibility requirements or complete final content list. Those details remain unconfirmed by this account.
How does the aerial gameplay work?
Floating islands and Seikret traversal
The first demo hunt took place among jagged floating islands, where wind shaped the environment. Thwaites used a Seikret to dive between the airborne structures; she found the movement somewhat rigid in the preview build. That impression applies to the demo, not necessarily the finished game.

Alpha Araketa and grouped aerial attacks
The demo’s level 2 hunt introduced Alpha Araketa, a new wyvern described as having a boulder-like head, wings with rear claws and a long tail. Smaller members of its species fought alongside it. In Thwaites’s encounter, the Alpha and one smaller creature approached from the air, and another swooped in later. The attacks she described included strikes with the monster’s hammer-like head, claws and tail; the Insect Glaive helped her reposition around the aerial assault.
What does the Boost Bracer add to combat?
TechRadar’s demo account describes the Boost Bracer as enabling weapon-specific Boost Driver attacks. The interface showed three charge slots, which lit up as the hunter attacked. With the Insect Glaive, Thwaites reported a special sequence of explosive sweeping moves that boosted damage and reset momentum without requiring a separate resource.
