Spoilers for Moore’s quest: If you want the complete reward set with the least backtracking, choose “Remain sad forever.” Moore dies, and his equipment can be looted immediately from the cliffs north of the Church of the Crusade. “Put it behind you” and “I don’t know” ultimately give the same rewards, but require a later fight or additional Forager Brood objectives.
Before you start
Moore’s quest is part of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which requires the base game. The optional Black Syrup setup is missable after you approach Shadow Keep and trigger the Great Rune-breaking message, so complete it first if you want every conversation.
Moore questline walkthrough
- Meet Thiollier at Pillar Path Cross. Exhaust his dialogue until his purchase and sale menu appears.
- Talk to Moore at Main Gate Cross. Moore gives you Black Syrup and asks you to deliver it to Thiollier.
- Return to Thiollier. Select “Ask about black syrup”, then choose “I’m weary of life.” Thiollier gives you Thiollier’s Concoction.
- Approach Shadow Keep. The game displays
Somewhere, a great rune has been broken…
followed byAnd so too has a powerful charm.
This message unlocks Moore’s final conversation. - Find Moore at Pillar Path Cross. Talk to him about the broken Great Rune and select one of the three responses below.
Timing and points of no return
Steps 2–4 are intended to be completed before you approach Shadow Keep. If you have already triggered the Great Rune and charm message, those preparation steps can be skipped; Moore’s quest can still be completed by handling his first conversation and then returning for the final choice.
The quest remains available until the point of no return when you burn the Sealing Tree at the Church of the Bud, and it must be completed before Thiollier leaves for his later quest stage.

“Put it behind you”
Moore becomes an enemy and appears with other characters in the Enir-Ilim encounter immediately before the DLC end boss. Defeat him there; this route adds Moore to that fight and delays his equipment until the encounter.
“Remain sad forever” — fastest route
Moore takes his own life. Travel to the cliffs north of the Church of the Crusade and loot his remains for the quest rewards. This avoids the Enir-Ilim encounter and is the shortest path to the full set.

“I don’t know” — longest route
- Reach the cliffs outside the Church District Entrance. The route runs through Moorth Ruins and Bonny Village.
- Kill the Forager Brood on those cliffs.
- Return to Moore at Main Gate Cross.
- Kill the second Forager Brood on the cliffs north of the Church of the Crusade.
- Moore invades immediately after the second brood dies. Defeat him.
- Return to Main Gate Cross and collect Moore’s Bell Bearing.
Moore quest rewards
All three choices provide the same complete reward set:
- Verdigris Greatshield
- Verdigris Helm
- Verdigris Armor
- Verdigris Gauntlets
- Verdigris Greaves
- Moore’s Bell Bearing
The choice changes the route and timing, not the final equipment set. Choose “Remain sad forever” if you want to avoid both the Enir-Ilim fight and the two-brood detour.
