Where Ghostface fits in Mortal Kombat 1
Ghostface is one of the guest fighters in Kombat Pack 2, which is part of the Khaos Reigns expansion. Warner Bros. Games announced the expansion on July 26, 2024, as the next phase of Mortal Kombat 1’s story, alongside six playable Kombat Pack 2 characters. Ghostface, T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian were slated to arrive after launch, with one-week early access for expansion owners. Warner Bros. Games’ announcement has the original overview.
How NetherRealm adapted the character
In a PlayStation Blog design article, NetherRealm Combat Designer Joe Epstein described adapting Ghostface’s robe and mask for a fast-paced fighting game, using returning voice actor Roger L. Jackson, and keeping the character’s face obscured during performance. Epstein identified Billy Loomis, one of the killers in the original Scream, as the canonical Ghostface for cinematic Fatal Blows and finishing moves. What you need to play Ghostface
Khaos Reigns is an expansion, not a standalone game. You need Mortal Kombat 1 to access its content, and the expansion is distributed digitally. Check the official Mortal Kombat FAQ for current access details and platform information.
Choose the purchase route that matches what you want
- You do not own the base game: You need Mortal Kombat 1 as well as access to Ghostface. Buying the base game alone does not unlock the fighter. Warner Bros. Games also listed a Khaos Reigns Kollection for new players at launch.
- You want the story expansion and its associated content: Get Khaos Reigns. The FAQ says Kombat Pack 2 is available through specified editions or the expansion.
- You want only a particular fighter: The FAQ says each fighter can be purchased separately. Kombat Pack 2 is not sold as a standalone character bundle.
At launch, Warner Bros. Games listed historical suggested retail prices of $49.99 for Khaos Reigns on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and $39.99 on Nintendo Switch. These are the publisher’s launch SRP figures, not a statement of current price. Check your platform’s store for today’s price, regional availability, and the exact edition contents. Warner Bros. Games’ announcement includes the launch pricing and edition details.
