Mother Machine is already available on PC: Maschinen-Mensch released the cooperative cave-platformer on March 26, 2025. It supports online co-op for up to four players and local split-screen for two. The official sources reviewed do not confirm a console release or date.
What is Mother Machine?
Developed and published by Maschinen-Mensch, Mother Machine is a cooperative platformer set in procedurally generated alien caves. Players control gremlins, navigate physics-based environments, work together on objectives, and gain abilities through mutations. Steam describes the game as “1-4 player co-op platforming in procedurally-generated alien caves!”
Steam also classifies it as an action and indie game and displays tags including platformer, co-op, exploration, procedural generation, and roguelite. Those tags are useful for finding the game, but they are not a definitive statement of its genre. The developer’s official overview is on the Mother Machine page.

How does co-op work?
The listed player count depends on how you play. Steam lists single-player, online co-op for up to four players, and local split-screen co-op for two. That makes online the option for groups larger than two, while split-screen is listed for two people sharing a local setup.
| Play option | Listed player count | What the listing establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Single-player | One player | Listed as a supported mode on Steam. |
| Online co-op | Up to four players | Steam describes online co-op for up to four. |
| Local split-screen | Two players | Steam lists local split-screen for two. |
The Steam listing also indicates controller support, so a PC gamepad is optional for players who prefer one; it does not identify a required controller model. The listing does not establish cross-play, shared progression, or other multiplayer details.

Is Mother Machine coming to consoles?
No console release or date is confirmed in the official sources reviewed. In a Steam discussion reply dated March 26, 2025, a developer said console ports depended on the commercial success of the PC release and that the studio had not secured funding from Sony or Microsoft for ports at that time. That is a statement from that date, not confirmation of the studio’s current plans. The discussion is available in the console-release thread.
