Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →msaexp30.dll is a Microsoft Access component, not a general Windows system file. If Windows reports that msaexp30.dll is missing, not found, corrupted, or could not be loaded, identify the Access installation that the failing program actually uses before replacing anything.
msaexp30.dll errors can come from full Microsoft Access, Access Runtime, or an older application built with Access. Check these points first:
- Which program fails: Microsoft Access itself, an Access database, a business application, or another program.
- When it fails: during Windows startup, when launching Access, or when opening a particular database.
- What changed: an Office update, repair, uninstall, antivirus alert, disk cleanup, migration to a new PC, or installation of another Office version.
- Office generation: Microsoft 365, Office 2019, Office 2016, Office 2013, Office 2010, or an older release.
- Installation type: Click-to-Run or MSI-based Office.
- Architecture: 32-bit or 64-bit Access and Office.
- File status: absent, quarantined, damaged, or present in an old or incorrect Office folder.
Do not begin by downloading a replacement DLL. The safest repair is normally to restore the matching Office or Access installation.
What is msaexp30.dll?
msaexp30.dll is the Microsoft Access Expression Builder DLL, developed by Microsoft Corporation. It belongs to Microsoft Access and is listed in Microsoft Office update manifests as an Office file with separate x86 and x64 package entries.

It is not a Windows system DLL. It should not normally be copied into:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Microsoft records the file in Access 2010 and Access 2013 update packages. The supplied 11.0.8153.0 version uses an older Office-generation numbering scheme, while later Access releases have different file versions. For example, Microsoft lists version 14.0.7162.5000 for Access 2010 and 15.0.4454.1000 for Access 2013 in separate update manifests.
That means a file with the right name is not automatically the right file. Version, architecture, Office generation, installation type, and file location all matter.
Fix 1: Repair Microsoft Office or Access
This is the best first fix when Access itself fails, several Office files are missing, or the error appeared after an Office update or incomplete repair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsRun Quick Repair
- Close Access and every Office application.
- Open Start and select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11. On some Windows 10 installations, select Apps & features.
- Find Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office, or the installed Access product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Select Modify.
- Approve the administrator prompt if Windows asks.
- Select Quick Repair.
- Select Repair and wait for the process to finish.
- Restart Windows.
- Open the program that produced the error.
Quick Repair normally uses the existing Office installation files. It is faster and usually does not require a full Office download.
Run Online Repair if Quick Repair fails
If msaexp30.dll is still missing:
- Return to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the same Microsoft 365 or Office entry.
- Select Modify.
- Choose Online Repair.
- Select Repair.
- Follow the prompts until the repair completes.
- Restart Windows and test Access again.
Online Repair is more thorough and may remove and reinstall Office components. Save documents and close Office applications before starting it.
Repair MSI-based Office
Some older Office installations use Windows Installer rather than Click-to-Run.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select Microsoft Office or Microsoft Access in the installed-program list.
- Select Change.
- Choose Repair.
- Follow the setup wizard.
- Restart Windows when it finishes.
If the program is an older Access-based application, repair the Office or Access generation it was designed for rather than installing a newer Office version at random.
Microsoft’s Office repair instructions describe these repair paths.

Fix 2: Confirm the correct Office version and bitness
A 32-bit Access application may require 32-bit Office components even when Windows itself is 64-bit. Access 2010 and Access 2013 packages contain separate x86 and x64 copies of msaexp30.dll, so copying a file from a different architecture is not a reliable repair.
Check the installed Office architecture
If Microsoft Access opens:
- Open Access.
- Select File.
- Select Account.
- Select About Access.
- Read the version and whether it is 32-bit or 64-bit.
If Access will not open:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Open the Office entry’s details if available.
- Look for the product name and installation information.
You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features and inspect the installed Office product.
Check for multiple Office installations
Look for combinations such as:
- Microsoft 365 plus Office 2010
- Office MSI plus Click-to-Run Office
- Full Access plus Access Runtime
- A legacy line-of-business application with its own Access dependency
Do not assume the newest Office installation supplies every component required by an older application. A program may still be trying to load files from an older Access installation that was removed during an upgrade.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Repair or reinstall the matching Office generation and architecture. Do not replace an Office 2003-generation file with a Microsoft 365 or Office 2016 file merely because both files are named msaexp30.dll.
Fix 3: Determine whether the application needs Access Runtime
Some users do not have the full Microsoft Access desktop application. Instead, they run a database application built for Access Runtime.
Microsoft 365 Access Runtime is intended to run Access applications on systems without the full version of Access. It is not a universal replacement for every existing Office installation or legacy runtime dependency.
Before installing Runtime, identify:
- The application vendor’s supported Access generation
- Whether the application requires 32-bit or 64-bit Access
- Whether the computer already has MSI-based Office
- Whether the application requires an older runtime
Microsoft documents compatibility considerations for Microsoft 365 Access Runtime. The Microsoft Access 2016 Runtime download provides separate x86 and x64 installers, but Microsoft states that support for Access 2016 Runtime ended on October 14, 2025, and recommends Microsoft 365 Access Runtime for new deployments.

Installing the wrong architecture or mixing incompatible Office installation technologies can create additional problems.
After installing the supported runtime, restart Windows and launch the original application. If the application still reports the same error, repair or reinstall the application itself and contact its vendor for the required Access generation.
Fix 4: Check Microsoft Defender quarantine
Antivirus software can quarantine an Office file after an alert or a false positive. This is especially relevant when the error began immediately after a Defender scan or security-software update.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions.
- Look for an item referring to
msaexp30.dll, Microsoft Access, or the Office installation. - Expand the item and record the original file path and detection name.
Do not restore the file automatically. First verify that:
- The original path belongs to the active Microsoft Office or Access installation.
- The file was installed by Microsoft Office rather than downloaded separately.
- The file’s digital signature identifies Microsoft.
- The detection was not associated with a suspicious temporary folder or an unknown application.
If the file is in an unexpected location, was downloaded from the internet, or has no trustworthy Microsoft signature, leave it quarantined and run Office repair instead. Microsoft explains Protection History in its Windows Security guidance.
After restoring a verified file, restart Windows and test the affected program. If Defender quarantines it again, do not keep restoring it. Run a full scan and repair or reinstall Office from official Microsoft media.
Fix 5: Reinstall the matching Office or Access product
Use a reinstall when Quick Repair and Online Repair do not restore the file, or when several Office components are missing.
Before uninstalling, confirm that you have:
- The Microsoft account used to activate Microsoft 365, if applicable
- The Office product key or installation media for an older release
- The required 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- Backups of Access databases and application data
- Any license or configuration information required by a business application
Then:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Locate Microsoft 365, Office, Access, or the relevant runtime.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Select Uninstall.
- Follow the removal prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Office from Microsoft’s official account or installation page.
- Install the same product generation and architecture required by the application.
- Restart Windows again.
- Test Access or the Access-based program.
Microsoft’s Office reinstall instructions cover supported installation methods.
If the error belongs to a vendor application, reinstall that application after restoring Access. Its installer may supply application-specific components, shortcuts, registry settings, or runtime dependencies that Office repair alone cannot recreate.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
msaexp30.dll belongs to Office, so System File Checker is not the primary repair tool. SFC and DISM mainly service protected Windows components. They are reasonable when several unrelated Windows files are failing, Windows Update is damaged, or Office repair reports broader system corruption.
Run DISM first, then SFC.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Run Office repair again if
msaexp30.dllis still missing.
Do not close the Command Prompt while either scan is running. A successful result means Windows repaired or verified system components, but it does not guarantee that an Office-owned DLL was restored.
Rank #4
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating DISM or SFC without knowing what changed becomes impractical, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for issues and show what needs attention; its repair functions require the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the matching Access product.
Use Microsoft’s System File Checker and DISM instructions if you want the Microsoft-supported command sequence.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after an Office installation, update, driver installation, or other system change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, installed programs, and drivers. It does not normally remove personal files, but applications installed after the selected restore point may need to be installed again.
Use it as a rollback option, not as the default repair. If no suitable restore point exists, return to Office repair or reinstall the matching product. Microsoft documents the process in its System Restore guidance.

A graphics, storage, or chipset driver normally does not provide msaexp30.dll, so driver updates are not a direct fix for a missing Access component. Consider drivers only if the error appeared alongside system crashes, disk errors, display failures, or a recent hardware change.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Display adapters, Storage controllers, and System devices.
- Right-click a device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver date, provider, and status.
- Use Update driver only for the device connected to the symptoms.
- Restart Windows.
Avoid replacing unrelated drivers while troubleshooting Access. If the machine has many outdated devices, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify driver versions, while driver installation through the full version remains optional; confirm each proposed update before applying it.
Do not expect a driver update to restore an Office-owned DLL. If Access remains the only failing application, repair or reinstall Access instead.

Random DLL download pages are a poor repair source because the file may be:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The wrong Office generation
- The wrong architecture
- Modified or infected
- Missing a valid Microsoft signature
- Intended for a different installation path
- Unable to fix damaged Office registration or other missing files
Copying it to System32, SysWOW64, the application folder, or an Office folder can make the installation inconsistent. It can also hide the original cause, such as a failed update or antivirus quarantine.
Use Office repair, an official Microsoft installation, or the application vendor’s supported Access Runtime. Microsoft’s Access update manifests are useful for confirming that the file belongs to Access, including the Access 2010 manifest and Access 2013 manifest.

Do not use regsvr32 as a routine fix
regsvr32 is not a general-purpose DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.
Do not run:
regsvr32 msaexp30.dll
as a routine response to this error. msaexp30.dll is an Access component, and there is no established reason to treat it as a self-registering COM server. Registering a DLL does not download a missing file, repair an Office installation, or restore the correct architecture.
Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains when the command applies.
If the error still remains
Collect these details before attempting more changes:
- The exact error text
- The executable that reports the error
- Whether Access itself opens
- The full path Windows says it searched
- The Office or Access version
- Whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit
- Whether Office uses Click-to-Run or MSI
- Whether the file is absent, quarantined, or present in another folder
- Whether multiple Office generations are installed
- What changed immediately before the failure
If the file disappears again after repair, run a full malware scan, inspect disk health and Windows event logs, back up important data, and investigate storage failure. Repeated disappearance is different from a one-time incomplete Office update.
FAQ
Is msaexp30.dll a Windows file?
No. It is the Microsoft Access Expression Builder DLL and belongs to Microsoft Access or Microsoft Office. It should not normally be placed in System32 or SysWOW64.
Does Windows 11 require a special version?
Windows 11 does not make a random replacement DLL correct. Repair the Access or Office generation used by the failing application, with the matching architecture.
Is the 11.0.8153.0 file the only valid version?
No. That number corresponds to an older Office-generation numbering scheme. Microsoft also documents different versions in Access 2010 and Access 2013 packages.
Can I copy the file from another computer?
That is not a safe standard fix. The other computer may have a different Office generation, architecture, update level, or installation type. Repair or reinstall the matching product instead.
Should I install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no evidence that installing those runtimes specifically repairs an Office-owned msaexp30.dll. Focus on Access and Office repair.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIs Microsoft 365 Access Runtime a universal solution?
No. It runs supported Access applications without full Access, but it may not satisfy an older application’s dependency and can have compatibility issues with existing MSI-based Office installations.
What is the most likely successful fix?
Identify the failing application and its Office architecture, run Quick Repair, then Online Repair if needed. If repair fails, reinstall the same Access or Office generation rather than downloading an individual DLL.
