MSI’s CES 2025 monitor lineup pairs two very different goals: the MPG 272URX QD-OLED delivers 4K resolution at 240Hz, while the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 targets esports with a 500Hz QHD panel. Both use QD-OLED technology and DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, but the right choice depends on whether you prioritize image detail or the highest possible motion refresh.
What MSI announced at CES 2025
In its January 2, 2025 product-news announcement, MSI called the 27-inch MPG 272URX QD-OLED the world’s first 27-inch 4K 240Hz QD-OLED monitor with DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20. MSI says its five-layer tandem OLED construction using EL Gen 3 materials improves efficiency by up to 30 percent. The panel has 166 pixels per inch, supports G-SYNC Compatible, and received a CES 2025 Innovation Award.
MSI also introduced the MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50, described as the world’s first 27-inch QHD 500Hz QD-OLED panel. MSI lists DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20, a 0.03ms gray-to-gray response time, DisplayHDR True Black 500 and VESA ClearMR 21000.
MSI’s CES lineup information specifies 80Gbps total DisplayPort UHBR20 bandwidth and G-SYNC Compatible support for the X50. MSI later documented two related 500Hz products at Computex 2025: the MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50 and MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50.

MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50: QHD at 500Hz
The MPG 272QR QD-OLED X50 is built for competitive play rather than maximum desktop density. Its 27-inch QHD resolution is 2560×1440, while the 500Hz refresh rate gives the graphics card and game engine far more opportunities to present a new frame than a 240Hz display.
MSI rates the panel at 0.03ms GtG and lists DisplayHDR True Black 500 and ClearMR 21000. DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 is intended to provide enough bandwidth for high-refresh operation with compatible hardware.

Other MSI 500Hz X50 models
MSI’s Computex 2025 materials identify two additional 27-inch, 2560×1440, 500Hz QD-OLED monitors:
- MPG 271QR QD-OLED X50: 0.03ms GtG, ClearMR 21000, DisplayHDR True Black 500 and an AI Care Sensor.
- MAG 272QP QD-OLED X50: 0.03ms GtG, DisplayHDR True Black 500, ClearMR 21000 and 99 percent DCI-P3 coverage.
The AI Care Sensor on the MPG 271QR can detect user presence at a stated 0.2-second image-capture interval and activate OLED protection or power down when nobody is detected. Exact feature sets can vary between MPG and MAG models, so buyers should check the specification page for the model sold in their country.

4K 240Hz versus QHD 500Hz
| Priority | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum image detail | MPG 272URX | 3840×2160 resolution and 166 PPI provide denser game and desktop imagery. |
| Very high competitive frame rates | 500Hz X50 model | 2560×1440 is easier for a GPU to drive at extreme frame rates. |
| AAA games and mixed PC use | MPG 272URX | 4K is more suitable for detailed games, productivity and creation work. |
| Esports FPS competition | 500Hz X50 model | 500Hz minimizes the interval between possible frame updates when the game and system sustain them. |
| Long-term connectivity | Either, where equipped | DisplayPort 2.1a UHBR20 offers 80Gbps total bandwidth; MSI says it can enable non-DSC 4K at 240Hz with compatible hardware. |
A 500Hz monitor does not automatically make a game run at 500 frames per second. The practical benefit depends on the GPU, CPU, game settings and engine. If a system spends most of its time below 240fps, the 4K model’s resolution advantage is usually more noticeable than the extra refresh headroom.

The MPG 272URX datasheet lists OLED Care 2.0, while the newer AI Care Sensor approach on the MPG 271QR X50 adds presence detection that can trigger protective behavior or sleep when the display is unattended. These features are designed to reduce static-image exposure, an important consideration for OLED desktop use.

Certification also differs: MSI lists DisplayHDR True Black 400 for the MPG 272URX and DisplayHDR True Black 500 for the 500Hz X50 models. Those certification levels describe the products’ tested HDR class; they are not a promise that every scene will appear brighter than on another monitor.
What is known about price and availability
MSI’s official announcements reviewed for these products do not provide one worldwide price or a universal release date. Availability is market-specific, and the final specification, stock status and warranty terms should be confirmed with MSI or an authorized retailer in the target country. MSI’s MPG 272URX datasheet does state a three-year warranty that includes panel burn-in coverage.
Which monitor should you choose?
Choose the MPG 272URX if
- You want 4K sharpness for AAA games, work or content creation.
- Your graphics card can maintain high frame rates at 3840×2160.
- You need USB-C with up to 98W charging alongside HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 2.1a.
- You value a stated burn-in-inclusive three-year warranty.
Choose a QHD 500Hz X50 if
- You primarily play competitive shooters or other esports titles.
- Your system can sustain frame rates close to 500fps at 2560×1440.
- You prefer maximum motion-refresh headroom over 4K pixel density.
- You want DisplayHDR True Black 500 and ClearMR 21000 certification.
The Bottom Line
The MPG 272URX is the all-rounder: 4K, 240Hz, high pixel density and broad connectivity. MSI’s QHD 500Hz X50 monitors are specialist esports displays whose advantage appears only when the game and hardware can feed them exceptionally high frame rates.
