MSI’s RTX 5090 preorder schedule
According to a report from HotHardware, an MSI message shared through the company’s U.S. Discord channel gave buyers the following schedule:

February 6 was a stated ship date, not a guaranteed arrival date. Shipping method, warehouse processing, carrier capacity, and the buyer’s destination could all affect delivery. MSI also had not established from the available information how many orders it could fulfill on that date.
Which MSI RTX 5090 models were included?
The reported preorder schedule covered these six MSI RTX 5090 variants:
- GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim Liquid SOC
- GeForce RTX 5090 32G Suprim OC
- GeForce RTX 5090 Vanguard SOC Launch Edition
- GeForce RTX 5090 Vanguard SOC
- GeForce RTX 5090 32G Gaming Trio OC
- GeForce RTX 5090 32G Ventus 3X OC
These were the models identified in the report; the available evidence did not independently confirm whether every model would open for preorder at exactly the same moment.

The RTX 5090 itself was still launching January 30
NVIDIA’s official launch information kept the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 retail availability date at January 30, 2025. NVIDIA listed the RTX 5090 with a starting price of $1,999 and identified MSI among the add-in-board partners producing custom cards. See NVIDIA’s announcement and its launch-day availability update.
The distinction matters: a buyer could potentially find an RTX 5090 through another sales channel on January 30 while an order placed through MSI’s U.S. store waited to ship until February 6.
The RTX 5080 was treated differently on MSI’s U.S. storefront. It was listed for purchase on January 30 with an “ASAP” shipping indication, rather than the RTX 5090’s reported preorder-and-ship-later arrangement.

Was every U.S. retailer delayed?
There was no evidence that MSI’s February 6 schedule applied to every retailer. The reported statement concerned MSI’s own U.S. online store, and an MSI representative reportedly could not confirm whether other retailers would follow the same timing.

Potential comparison channels included Best Buy, Newegg, B&H Photo, Amazon, and Micro Center. However, a product page or search result alone did not prove that a retailer physically had launch-day inventory. Each retailer could have its own allocation, queue, and fulfillment policy.

- In stock: Usually indicates inventory is available, but confirm the retailer’s stated dispatch timing.
- Preorder: Accepts an order for a future allocation; it does not necessarily mean immediate or guaranteed fulfillment.
- Backorder: The retailer expects more inventory but may not have a firm date.
- Ships from supplier: May indicate that the retailer does not physically hold the card.
- Notify me: Not an order or allocation.
What the $1,999 price did—and did not—mean
NVIDIA’s $1,999 figure was the RTX 5090 family’s starting price, not a confirmed price for every MSI card. Custom models such as the Suprim Liquid, Suprim OC, Vanguard, Gaming Trio, and Ventus can differ in cooler design, factory clock speeds, board design, dimensions, accessories, and pricing. MSI’s available announcement did not establish a final price for each listed model.
The NVIDIA marketplace page showed a $1,999 listing and was marked out of stock when crawled, but availability and pricing can change.
What buyers needed to check before ordering
- Convert the launch time to your local time zone and sign in to the store beforehand.
- Prepare payment and shipping details where the retailer permits it.
- Confirm whether the listing is in stock, a preorder, or a backorder.
- Check the promised ship date, cancellation terms, return window, and any restocking fee.
- Save the order confirmation or a screenshot showing the stated fulfillment date.
- Remember that a ship date is not a delivery date.
- Compare the exact model, total cost, warranty handling, and card dimensions—not just the RTX 5090 name.
High demand made the distinction especially important. NVIDIA warned of significant demand around the launch, and the report noted speculative resale listings reaching roughly $7,000. Those listings were not evidence of normal retail pricing or completed sales. Buyers should be cautious with fake preorder pages, nonrefundable deposits, empty-box or counterfeit listings, and third-party sellers promising inventory they do not yet possess.
For a direct MSI purchase, use the official MSI U.S. store. For another retailer, prefer an authorized seller with a clear fulfillment date, transparent returns, and buyer protections.
The Bottom Line
MSI’s U.S. store planned to open RTX 5090 preorders at 6:00 a.m. PST on January 30, 2025, with orders scheduled to ship on February 6. The delay applied to MSI-direct U.S. orders, not necessarily to MSI cards sold by other retailers, and February 6 referred to shipment—not guaranteed delivery.
