mssp3ar.dll is an Arabic spelling and proofing component associated with Microsoft Office, especially Office 2010. If Windows says it is missing, cannot load it, or cannot find the specified module, repair the Office installation or reinstall its matching Arabic proofing tools instead of downloading a standalone DLL.
Microsoft’s Office 2010 update records identify mssp3ar.dll as an installed filename for the Arabic proofing file msspell3.dll. The same records document separate x86 and x64 Office files, so the correct replacement must match the Office installation, not simply the bitness of Windows.
Fix mssp3ar.dll errors safely
Work through these fixes in order. After each one, restart Windows and open the Office program that produced the error.
1. Repair Microsoft Office
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
This is the most likely fix for a missing or damaged mssp3ar.dll. It restores Office files as a group and avoids mixing a DLL from another release with your installation.

Microsoft 365 or Click-to-Run Office
- Close Word, Excel, Outlook, and every other Office program.
- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office, or the relevant Office product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Online Repair.
- Select Repair and approve the prompts.
- Restart Windows when the repair completes.
Online Repair downloads and rebuilds the Office installation, so it is preferable to Quick Repair when a proofing file is missing.
MSI-based Office
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select your Microsoft Office installation.
- Select Change.
- Choose Repair in the setup dialog.
- Follow the prompts and restart Windows.
Try the affected Office application again. If the error has disappeared, do not copy another DLL into the Office folder.

2. Reinstall the Arabic proofing or language component
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
Repair may not restore the file if Arabic proofing tools were removed separately. Microsoft language packages include spelling and grammar tools, and Office 2010 has its own legacy Proofing Tools Kit.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for an Office language pack, proofing tools package, or Arabic language component.
- If one is present but damaged, select its three-dot menu and choose Modify, Repair, or Uninstall, depending on the available options.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the matching Arabic proofing component from your organization’s Microsoft installation source or the original Office media.
- Open Office and test Arabic spelling or the program that reported the error.
For Office 2010, Microsoft published the Office 2010 Proofing Tools Kit SP2 package. Its installer is intended for Office 2010, not automatically for Microsoft 365 or another Office generation. Use Microsoft’s Office 2010 Proofing Tools Kit SP2 download only when it matches your installed product and architecture.
Do not assume a current Microsoft 365 language package will repair Office 2010. If multiple Office generations are installed, identify which one the failing program uses before changing language components.
3. Check the Office architecture
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
A 64-bit version of Windows can run 32-bit Office. The relevant match is between the replacement proofing file and Office, not between the file and Windows.

To check Office:
- Open Word or another working Office application.
- Select File → Account.
- Select About Word, About Excel, or the equivalent application entry.
- Read the architecture shown in the dialog, such as 32-bit or 64-bit.
- Match any repair media, language package, or Proofing Tools installer to that architecture.
Microsoft’s Office 2010 records list mssp3ar.dll variants with different documented sizes for x86 and x64 installations. That is why copying a file from another computer is unsafe even if its name looks correct.

If the Office application will not open, check the product details in Settings → Apps → Installed apps or use the original Office installer. When the architecture is unclear, repair the complete Office product rather than replacing an individual file.
4. Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Antivirus software may quarantine an Office file because it was damaged, modified, or incorrectly detected. Quarantine alone does not prove that the file was malware.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
mssp3ar.dllor the Office installation. - Expand the event and inspect its path and detection details.
Restore the file only if its location clearly belongs to the genuine Office installation and the installation can be verified as trusted. If the file is in an unexpected folder, has an invalid signature, or is repeatedly detected, do not keep restoring it. Run a full scan or Microsoft Defender Offline scan, then repair or reinstall Office from trusted Microsoft media.

Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Use these commands when other Windows components are also failing or Windows itself appears damaged. mssp3ar.dll is primarily an Office proofing file, so SFC and DISM are secondary steps and may not restore it.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command first:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows and test Office.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command should be treated as a guaranteed repair for an Office-owned DLL.

6. Update Office and test the affected account
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
An Office update or migration can leave mixed files from different installations.
- Open Word or another Office application.
- Select File → Account.
- Select Update Options → Update Now.
- Restart Windows after the update.
- Test the application again.
If the error appears only in one Windows account, sign in with another account and test Office. A per-user installation state, add-in, or profile problem may be involved.
You can also test Office in Safe Mode:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Run
winword /safefor Word, or use the matching Office executable. - If the error does not appear in Safe Mode, disable Office add-ins from File → Options → Add-ins and re-enable them one at a time.
7. Check drivers only when the evidence points there
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A display, printer, or hardware driver does not normally provide mssp3ar.dll. Do not begin with driver downloads unless the same failure affects hardware-related software or Device Manager shows a problem.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category.
- Right-click a device with a warning icon.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
If the error is limited to Office Arabic proofing, return to Office repair rather than replacing unrelated drivers.

8. Uninstall and reinstall Office
Time needed: 30–60 minutes
Use this step when Online Repair, proofing-tool repair, and quarantine checks do not restore the file.
- Back up any local Office files and confirm that you know the Microsoft account or installation source used for Office.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the affected Office product.
- Select the three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall Office from the original Microsoft account, installation media, or volume-license source.
- Install the matching Arabic language or proofing component.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
For Office 2010, use the original product media or a verified organizational installer. Do not replace an Office 2010 file with a file from Microsoft 365 or another Office generation.

Why mssp3ar.dll errors happen
The usual causes are:

The message “specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency required by mssp3ar.dll is missing. It does not always mean the named file itself is absent.

Do not download mssp3ar.dll from a random DLL website. A replacement may contain malware, belong to a different Office release, use the wrong architecture, or fail to include the dependency that caused the message.
Do not copy it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or a random application folder. Those directories are not a general repair location for Office proofing files, and manual copying can create version conflicts.
regsvr32 is also not a normal solution:
regsvr32 mssp3ar.dll
Microsoft documents regsvr32 for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified reason to manually register this Office proofing file, and registration will not repair a missing dependency or incomplete Office installation. When to use System Restore
Use System Restore only when the problem began after a known software change and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore rolls back applications and settings and may remove changes made after the selected point. It is not the first choice for a damaged Office installation.
FAQ
Is mssp3ar.dll a Windows system file?
There is no verified evidence that it ships with Windows itself. Microsoft documents it as an Office 2010 Arabic proofing file.

Is it part of Office 2007 or Office 2010?
The official file evidence directly verifies Office 2010. Older Office installations may contain similarly named proofing files, but the exact product and architecture must be checked before repairing or reinstalling anything.
