MultiVersus’ shutdown is complete. Season 5 was its final content update, running from February 4 to May 30, 2025. Online features ended after the season, and the game was removed from major digital storefronts. It did not become wholly unplayable: players who installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5 can still play offline, with access to earned and purchased content tied to that setup.
What happened to MultiVersus?
On January 31, 2025, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games announced that Season 5 would be MultiVersus’ final seasonal content update. The team wrote: “After careful consideration, our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game.” Season 5 ran from February 4 through May 30, 2025. At the season’s end, online features stopped, and the game was no longer available to download through PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store. WB Games’ Season 5 FAQ set out the shutdown details.
That ended the live, online version of the game, but not all local play. Offline access depends on whether the player completed the required setup before the cutoff.
Can you still play MultiVersus offline?
WB Games said players could continue to enjoy MultiVersus offline “for the foreseeable future” if they installed the latest version and logged in during Season 5, before 9 a.m. PDT on May 30, 2025. That login created a local save associated with the relevant platform account. “For the foreseeable future” is open-ended wording, not a promise of permanent availability.

Earned and purchased content
Players who completed the install-and-login requirement could use earned and purchased content offline, according to the FAQ. The setup had to be completed separately on each supported platform where a player wanted offline access; logging in on one platform did not establish offline access on another.
What if you did not log in before the cutoff?
The FAQ distinguishes reinstalling the game from retaining offline access to content. Players who had uninstalled the game before Season 5 ended could reinstall it afterward. However, access to earned and purchased content offline depended on installing the latest version and logging in during Season 5. The FAQ does not say that reinstalling after the cutoff creates the local save or restores that content.

Because the game was delisted from the named storefronts, players should not assume a new download is available if they never installed it or no longer have access to its files. The official guidance about post-season reinstalling applied to players who had previously deleted or uninstalled it; platform-specific availability may vary.
What happened to updates, purchases, and refunds?
Season 5 was the final content and update season. Real-money transactions stopped on January 31, 2025. Players could use remaining Gleamium and character tickets to access or redeem in-game content through the end of Season 5; remaining character tickets could also be exchanged for Gleamium in-game until then.
The shutdown announcement did not create a special refund offer or change store refund rules. WB Games directed players to the refund policy of the store where they bought the content.

WB Games did not identify a specific financial, audience, or technical cause in its FAQ. Its explanation was that the decision was difficult and that the teams were proud of the game and grateful to its community. The joint statement, reproduced in the FAQ, said the teams had “put our heart and soul into Multiversus” and thanked players for their “passion and enthusiasm.” That expresses the developers’ appreciation, but does not explain the business reason for ending the game.
There was broader financial context. In a January 31, 2025 report, PC Gamer said Warner Bros. Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels had described MultiVersus as primarily responsible for a $100 million writedown during a company financial call. That is reported corporate context, not a reason the publisher gave for the shutdown; it should not be treated as definitive proof of causation.
