Mutant Carp in Stardew Valley: Where to Catch It and How

The Mutant Carp is one of Stardew Valley’s five Legendary Fish. You can catch it in the Sewers in any season and weather: each cast has a 10% chance to hook it, or 20% with a Curiosity Lure. Hooking it is only the first step—the fishing minigame still determines whether you land it.

How to catch Mutant Carp

Improve the chance of a bite

Each cast in the Sewers has a 10% chance to hook the Mutant Carp. With a Curiosity Lure equipped, the listed chance is 20% per cast. These figures describe the chance of hooking the fish, not a guaranteed catch.

Land the fish

After a bite, you must keep the fish inside the fishing bar during the minigame. The wiki lists difficulty 80 and Dart behavior. One suggested tactic is to hold the bar near the middle while the fish is moving, then follow it when it rests at an edge; this can help manage its movement but does not guarantee success.

Can you catch Mutant Carp more than once?

Normally, the limit is one Mutant Carp per save file, or one per player in multiplayer. Challenge Bait is an exception: it allows multiple fish to be caught in a single attempt.
