The safest fix is to identify the AOL program requesting mycalendar.dll, then repair or reinstall that complete application instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
mycalendar.dll is a Windows dynamic-link library associated with the legacy AOL Calendar component from America Online. Its internal description is reported as MyCalendar, and historical AOL 9.0 file listings place it inside the AOL program folder, under a path similar to:
C:Program FilesAmerica Online 9.0MyCalendar.dll
That location matters. mycalendar.dll is an application file, not a protected Windows component. There is no reliable reason to expect it in either of these folders:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Some public file indexes report version, size, and 32-bit metadata for a file with this name, but those details are not confirmed by a current AOL installation manifest. Do not select a replacement based only on a version number or a claim that a download is “64-bit.”

The file may be loaded by an old AOL desktop client, a calendar feature, or a related AOL component. Older shortcuts, startup entries, restored profiles, and registry references can continue requesting it even after the main AOL software has been partly removed.
A current supported AOL desktop product may not contain this historical Calendar component. If you only need email, AOL webmail or a currently supported AOL client is usually safer than rebuilding an obsolete desktop installation.
Causes of the error by symptom
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best response |
|---|---|---|
| The message appears when starting AOL software | Damaged or incomplete AOL installation | Repair or reinstall the parent AOL program |
| The error began after uninstalling AOL | A shortcut or startup entry still points to the removed program | Remove the obsolete entry or reinstall the original application |
| The message appeared after antivirus activity | mycalendar.dll was quarantined or removed |
Check Protection history and reinstall from trusted media |
| It started after restoring a backup | The executable, DLL, registry data, or dependencies were not restored together | Reinstall the complete AOL application |
| It began after moving to another PC | The old program was copied rather than installed | Use the original installer or stop using the legacy client |
| “The specified module could not be found” appears | A dependency of mycalendar.dll may be missing |
Repair the entire application, not just the named file |
| A 32-bit or 64-bit error appears | The application and DLL do not match, or files from different AOL releases were mixed | Reinstall one complete, matching AOL package |
| The error appears after cleanup software ran | An application file or registration entry may have been deleted | Reinstall the parent program |
| SFC reports no violations | Expected when the missing file belongs to AOL | Continue with application repair |
Fix 1: Identify the program that requests mycalendar.dll
Do this before replacing anything. The dialog may name the application in its title bar, or Windows may show the message immediately after you double-click a particular shortcut.
Check the error window
Look at the title bar and the text around the error. Record:

Do not assume that every mycalendar.dll error comes from the same AOL release. An old AOL shortcut can survive after its program has been removed.
Check shortcuts
- Right-click the shortcut that triggers the error.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target and Start in.
- Look for an AOL folder or an old
America Onlineinstallation path. - Select Cancel without launching the target.
If the shortcut points to a folder that no longer exists, delete the shortcut rather than trying to supply a DLL to it.
Check startup entries
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for an AOL or calendar entry.
- If it points to software you intentionally removed, right-click it and select Disable.
- Restart Windows and check whether the message returns.
Do not disable an entry merely because its name is unfamiliar. Confirm that it belongs to the obsolete AOL installation first.
Fix 2: Repair or reinstall the complete AOL application
This is the primary repair for a missing or damaged mycalendar.dll.
Recommended Free Tools
Try Windows application repair
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the AOL program named by the error.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and launch the AOL program again.
A successful repair normally leaves your application data in place while restoring missing program files. If the error disappears, open the feature that previously failed and confirm that it works.
Use Control Panel for older installers
Some legacy programs do not expose repair controls in Settings.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the AOL program in Programs and Features.
- Choose Change, Repair, or a similarly named option.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
The available choices depend on how the AOL software was packaged. If there is no repair option, close the window and continue to a complete reinstall.
Reinstall the parent program
If repair is unavailable or does not work:
- Back up any AOL data that the old application stores locally.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the AOL application.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when prompted.
- Remove only leftover folders that clearly belong to that same AOL installation. Do not delete folders containing personal mail or unrelated AOL data without checking them first.
- Reinstall using original installation media or a trusted installer obtained from the software publisher.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the newly installed AOL program from its new shortcut.
Do not copy only mycalendar.dll from another computer or from a different AOL release. The complete installation may also require matching executables, registry entries, type libraries, configuration files, and dependent DLLs.

AOL currently supports newer desktop software than the AOL 9.0-era Calendar component. Its current supported software may not include this historical DLL. If no trustworthy installer for the original application exists, do not reconstruct the program from isolated files.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove an old file if it is considered suspicious, modified, or unsafe. A missing file after a security alert may be a quarantine event rather than ordinary disk corruption.
Inspect Protection history
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Expand recent detections.
- Look for an entry naming
mycalendar.dllor the AOL installation folder.
Only restore a quarantined file when you have established that:
- It came from the original trusted AOL installer.
- The entire application is legitimate.
- The detection is demonstrably a false positive.
- The file has not been modified by an unknown source.
If those conditions are not clear, leave the file quarantined and reinstall the complete AOL program from trusted media. Do not whitelist an isolated DLL downloaded from a random file archive.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsScan before reinstalling
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Choose Full scan.
- Select Scan now.
If malware is plausible, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan from the same screen. Save your work first because Windows will restart during an offline scan.
If the detection returns after a clean reinstall, stop launching the old program and investigate the installer or the computer before restoring any files.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components as a secondary check
mycalendar.dll is not identified as a Windows system file, so System File Checker normally will not recreate it. DISM and SFC are still useful if other Windows files are damaged or if several unrelated applications are failing.
Install updates first
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install pending updates.
- Restart Windows.
Run DISM and SFC
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
- Test the AOL program again.
DISM repairs the Windows component image, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. Neither command is a direct source for an AOL DLL. If SFC reports that it found no integrity violations, that does not disprove the AOL diagnosis.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting unnecessarily slow. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for problems and show what it identifies, while repairs are performed by the full version; reinstalling the AOL application remains the definitive fix for an AOL-owned file.
Fix 5: Resolve architecture and compatibility problems
Legacy AOL software is commonly encountered as a 32-bit application, even on 64-bit Windows. That is not automatically a problem. Windows can run many 32-bit applications through its compatibility subsystem.
The problem occurs when files from different AOL versions or different applications are mixed. A 32-bit application should receive the DLL supplied with its own complete installation. Do not choose a file because a download page labels it 64-bit, and do not copy it into a Windows system folder.
Check whether Windows is 64-bit
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Find System type.
This tells you the operating-system architecture, not necessarily the architecture of the AOL program. The correct match comes from the AOL installer and its included files.
Use compatibility settings only after reinstalling
If the complete application is installed but will not start:

- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version only if the program’s documentation or known behavior supports it.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Launch the program again.
Do not use compatibility mode to make an incomplete installation work. Restore the full application first.
Fix 6: Do not register or manually copy the DLL
Why regsvr32 usually does not help
regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide the required registration entry point, commonly DllRegisterServer. It is not a general repair command for every missing DLL.
For this AOL component, there is no reliable evidence that manually running regsvr32 is required. If you try it against a file that does not support registration, you may see errors such as:
- The module was loaded but the entry point was not found
- The module could not be loaded
- The specified module could not be found
Those messages do not prove that registration is the solution.
Use regsvr32 only when the original AOL installer or authoritative product instructions explicitly require it. If that instruction exists, use the exact copy supplied by that installer and the correct system tool for the application architecture.
Why System32 copying is unsafe
Copying mycalendar.dll into System32 or SysWOW64 can:
- Put an application file in the wrong location
- Create version conflicts with another program
- Produce a wrong-architecture error
- Leave the actual AOL installation incomplete
- Expose the computer to an untrusted file
If a known-good file must be recovered, it belongs in the application directory specified by the original installer. Reinstalling the complete application is safer.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Fix 7: Check for a missing dependency
The wording “Error loading mycalendar.dll. The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found mycalendar.dll but could not find another library that it needs.
This is why copying a DLL often fails even when the filename in the message looks obvious.
Use this sequence:
- Open the AOL installation folder.
- Confirm that
mycalendar.dllexists there. - Check whether the error names a second DLL or runtime.
- Repair or reinstall the complete AOL application.
- Install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET only if the full error or the original AOL installer specifically identifies that dependency.
Do not install unrelated runtime packages simply because a generic DLL guide recommends them. This file is not established as a DirectX, Microsoft runtime, or device-driver component.
Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore can help when the error began immediately after software removal, an update, cleanup, or another system change. It works only if a suitable restore point exists.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed

- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore does not replace a missing AOL installer, and it may not restore personal files or every application file. If the error remains, reinstall the parent AOL program.

Fix 9: Check drivers only when the full error points to one
A driver is not the normal owner of mycalendar.dll. Do not update graphics, storage, chipset, or network drivers merely because this AOL file is missing.
Investigate drivers only if the complete error also reports a device failure, a display problem, a crash, or a driver-specific DLL.
To check for driver problems:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the device category related to the separate error.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the Device status message on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Update Driver and then Search automatically for drivers, or install a driver from the device manufacturer.
- Restart Windows.
Manually hunting through many driver packages can obscure the actual AOL problem. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what it finds, while installation is handled by the full version; it is not a substitute for reinstalling the AOL program that owns mycalendar.dll.
Should you download mycalendar.dll separately?
No, not as a first repair.
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- Malware or tampered files
- The wrong AOL release
- The wrong architecture
- A file with incompatible dependencies
- A DLL that appears to restore the message but leaves the application broken
There is no verified current official AOL standalone download for the historical AOL Calendar DLL. The safe sources are the original AOL installation media, a trusted installer supplied by AOL or the organization that licensed the software, or a known-good recovery image from the same computer.
Never disable antivirus protection just to install an isolated DLL. If the original installer is unavailable, moving to AOL webmail or a current supported AOL client is safer than rebuilding an obsolete component from loose files.
FAQ
Is mycalendar.dll part of Windows?
No evidence supports that. It is associated with the AOL Calendar application and should not normally be placed in a Windows system folder.
Which AOL program installed it?
Historical records associate it with AOL Calendar and legacy AOL desktop software, including an AOL 9.0-era installation. A current AOL desktop product is not confirmed to contain this old component.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsCan SFC restore mycalendar.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files, not third-party AOL application files.
Should I run regsvr32 mycalendar.dll?
Usually no. regsvr32 is for DLLs that support the required registration entry point. Repairing or reinstalling AOL is the correct first step.
Why does the error remain after I put the DLL back?
Another dependency may be missing, or the application may require matching registry data and supporting files. Reinstall the complete AOL package rather than replacing one file.
Is this a 32-bit or 64-bit file?
Public metadata describes a commonly reported copy as Win32, but those details are not an official universal specification. Match the DLL to the complete AOL installation instead of matching it to Windows alone.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
When should I stop troubleshooting?
Stop trying to reconstruct the program when the original trusted installer cannot be obtained, antivirus detections continue, or the only available files are isolated downloads. Remove obsolete shortcuts and use AOL through a supported web or desktop method.
