Myrient shut down on March 31, 2026. Its operator said donations no longer covered the service’s costs, while abuse of third-party download managers and rising hosting expenses added to the strain. A community archive called MiNERVA now offers browseable collections and torrent files, but its listings do not establish that every Myrient file is present or will remain available.
When did Myrient shut down?
Myrient’s operator announced that the service would close on March 31, 2026, and the official homepage now says it shut down on that date. Myrient described itself as a video-game preservation service and said its organized collections exceeded 390 terabytes; that figure is the service’s own description, not an independently audited inventory. Myrient’s homepage
Why did Myrient close?
The operator cited three pressures in the official closure announcement: an operating shortfall, third-party download managers that undermined the service’s donation messages and protections, and increasing hardware and hosting costs. These are the operator’s explanations, not an independent financial or market audit. Official closure announcement
Donations did not cover operating costs
The operator said donations fell short of traffic-related costs and that they were paying more than $6,000 out of pocket each month to cover the gap. The announcement does not provide an independently verified accounting of the service’s finances.

Download managers created problems
The operator said some third-party download managers bypassed donation messages and download protections, and that some placed features behind a paywall. The announcement also said commercial, for-profit use of Myrient was forbidden.
Hardware and hosting expenses rose
The operator pointed to rising RAM, SSD, and HDD prices, as well as the expense of storage and caching upgrades, as factors increasing the cost of hosting the collections.
