mysql.web.dll is an ASP.NET provider assembly from MySQL Connector/NET, not a Windows system file. If mysql.web.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the application or web project that depends on Connector/NET instead of copying a random DLL into a Windows folder.
Start with this diagnostic checklist
Before changing anything, record:
- Which program shows the error: a classic ASP.NET site, local development project, installer, or another application
- When it appears: during startup, while opening a web page, after an update, or after antivirus action
- The complete exception: especially any mention of
MySql.Web,MySql.Data, a target framework, orBadImageFormatException - The application architecture: whether the application is 32-bit or 64-bit
- The application folder: this is often where the required assembly should be deployed
Do not assume that a 32-bit Windows file belongs in C:WindowsSysWOW64. A 64-bit version of Windows can run a 32-bit ASP.NET application, and the correct assembly depends on the application’s .NET target and Connector/NET generation.

What mysql.web.dll does
mysql.web.dll implements MySQL’s providers for classic ASP.NET. These providers support:
- Membership
- Roles
- Profiles
- Session state
It is part of MySQL Connector/NET, including the MySql.Web package. Connector/NET is a managed ADO.NET provider written in C#, so mysql.web.dll is a .NET assembly rather than a conventional native Windows runtime DLL.

This file is related to the client-side .NET connection layer, not directly to the MySQL Server installation. A computer can have MySQL Server installed without having the ASP.NET provider assembly required by a particular web application.
MySQL’s documented deployment locations include the Connector/NET installation directory, an application’s bin folder, or the Global Assembly Cache. It does not normally belong in System32 or SysWOW64.
Some file listings identify a 32-bit 6.10.7.0 file with a size of about 0.15 MB, but those details should not be treated as a universal specification for every Connector/NET installation. Older applications may require an archived Connector/NET release rather than the newest package.
Fix 1: Repair the application that reports the error
This is the quickest and safest first step because the application normally knows which Connector/NET version and configuration it needs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFrom Windows Settings
- Press Windows + I.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the application again.
If the error disappears, the application installer restored its files. If the Repair button is unavailable or does nothing, continue with Control Panel.
From Control Panel
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Follow the installer’s prompts.
- Restart Windows if the installer requests it.
- Test the program again.
If the program is a web application, the publisher or administrator may need to redeploy the application rather than repair a desktop installation. The application’s bin directory should contain the matching MySql.Web and MySql.Data assemblies when the project requires them.
If repair fails, uninstall the affected application from the same Programs and Features window, restart Windows, and reinstall it using the developer’s official installer. Do not preserve a damaged application directory if the installer offers a clean installation option.
Fix 2: Reinstall the matching Connector/NET package
If the application is a classic ASP.NET project or an in-house web application, identify the Connector/NET release it expects before installing anything.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The official Oracle MySQL Connector/NET distribution is available as an MSI installer and through NuGet. Oracle MySQL also provides an archive for older releases. Do not assume the newest release is compatible with an older application.
For an MSI installation
- Close the affected application and any development tools.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Search for MySQL Connector/NET.
- If it is present, select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall or use Modify, if offered.
- Install the required release from the official Oracle MySQL distribution.
- Restart the application.
If an older application was built against a 6.x Connector/NET assembly, obtain the required archived release or ask the application developer which version to use. Installing a newer package beside an older one can leave the application loading an incompatible assembly.
For a NuGet project
In Visual Studio:
- Open the project or solution.
- Select Tools → NuGet Package Manager → Manage NuGet Packages for Solution.
- Select the Installed tab.
- Look for
MySql.WebandMySql.Data. - Check the project or package-management files for the expected versions.
- Restore the packages, or install the matching versions specified by the project.
- Select Build → Clean Solution.
- Select Build → Rebuild Solution.
- Confirm that the matching assemblies appear in the application’s
bindirectory.
The current MySql.Web NuGet package metadata targets .NET Framework versions including 4.6.2 and 4.8 and depends on MySql.Data. That means it is intended for the classic .NET Framework environment, not an arbitrary modern .NET application.
How to tell whether this worked
The repair is successful when the original application starts without the MySql.Web or mysql.web.dll exception. If the error changes to a missing MySql.Data.dll, a binding error, or a target-framework error, the original file may now be present but the dependency set or configuration is still mismatched.
Restore the complete matching package instead of copying only mysql.web.dll.
Fix 3: Check the application’s deployment and configuration
A file can exist on the computer and still be invisible to the application if it is in the wrong directory.
For a web project:
- Open the project’s application directory.
- Open the
binfolder. - Check whether the deployment contains the matching
MySql.WebandMySql.Dataassemblies. - Open
web.configin a text editor or Visual Studio. - Review the provider declarations and assembly references.
- Compare the requested assembly version in the error with the version actually deployed.
- Check for incorrect or stale binding redirects.
- Redeploy the application from a known-good build.
An application that no longer uses MySQL may still contain old provider entries in web.config. In that case, removing the stale configuration through the developer’s normal deployment process may be more appropriate than installing a package the application no longer needs.
If the assembly exists in the Connector/NET installation directory but the application does not load it, use the application’s documented reference or deployment method. Do not copy it into an unrelated program folder.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security Protection history
Antivirus software can quarantine or remove a legitimate application file, but restoring a file without checking its origin is unsafe.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections involving the affected application or its installation directory.
- If the file was quarantined, verify that the application came from its legitimate publisher or official Oracle MySQL distribution.
- Scan the application installer and computer.
- Restore or allow the file only when its provenance is confirmed.
If Windows Security continues removing the file, do not repeatedly restore it. Obtain a clean installer from the application publisher, update security definitions, and investigate whether the application directory contains other unwanted files.

Fix 5: Confirm the .NET Framework and ASP.NET features
mysql.web.dll is associated with classic ASP.NET and .NET Framework applications. A missing framework component can prevent a valid assembly from loading.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeaturesand press Enter. - Expand .NET Framework 4.8 Advanced Services, if listed.
- Check the features required by the application, such as ASP.NET 4.8.
- Select OK.
- Allow Windows to apply the change.
- Restart the computer.
- Test the application again.
Feature names can vary slightly between Windows 10 and Windows 11. Enable only the framework features required by the application or documented by its publisher. This step does not replace installing the correct Connector/NET assemblies.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use Windows component repair when other Windows features or applications also show signs of system corruption. These commands do not normally recreate a third-party MySQL assembly.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
DISM must run before SFC in this sequence. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the program after restarting. If both commands complete without fixing the error, return to the application and Connector/NET installation rather than repeating them indefinitely.
When manually hunting through component versions and repeating SFC or DISM without knowing what changed becomes impractical, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for system issues and show what it finds; repairs are performed by the full version, and reinstalling the affected application remains the definitive fix for this MySQL assembly.
Fix 7: Update drivers only when the complete error points there
A graphics, chipset, or storage driver is not a normal cause of a missing ASP.NET provider assembly. Consider drivers only if the same failure began with broader application crashes, device errors, or a driver-related message.
Recommended Free Tools
To check manually:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant device category.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Note the provider and version.
- Use the computer or device manufacturer’s official support page for an update.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan hardware when identifying which of many drivers is stale is taking time; its free scan shows the findings, while driver installation is handled by the full version. A driver update is not a substitute for restoring the correct MySql.Web package.
Fix 8: Use System Restore only after a recent system change
If the failure began immediately after a failed installation or major system change, System Restore may help when a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs, if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next → Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal files. It may not repair an improperly deployed web application, and it does not replace the need to reinstall the matching Connector/NET package.
Do not use these DLL fixes
Do not download a lone copy
Random DLL download sites can provide malware, a wrong assembly version, or a file built for a different application architecture. A copied file can also hide the real missing dependency, which is often MySql.Data.dll.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Use the affected application’s official installer, the official Oracle MySQL Connector/NET distribution, or the project’s NuGet package configuration.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not general-purpose storage for application assemblies. Copying a managed .NET assembly there does not make ASP.NET load it and can create confusion during later repairs.
Do not run regsvr32
Do not run:
regsvr32 mysql.web.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose the COM DllRegisterServer entry point. A managed Connector/NET assembly is normally referenced by the application, deployed in bin, installed with Connector/NET, or placed in the GAC. Registration is not the normal repair method.
FAQ
Is mysql.web.dll part of Windows?
No. It belongs to MySQL Connector/NET and is used by classic ASP.NET providers.
Does a desktop game normally need it?
Usually no. The file is primarily associated with classic ASP.NET applications and web projects. If a desktop program requests it, identify that program and repair its installation rather than assuming Windows is missing a component.
Is it installed by MySQL Server?
Not directly. MySQL Server and Connector/NET serve different purposes. The assembly comes from the .NET connector and its MySql.Web package.
Why does the message say the file is missing when it is present?
A dependency such as MySql.Data.dll, an incompatible assembly version, a wrong target framework, or a binding redirect can produce a misleading file-not-found or load error.
What does BadImageFormatException mean?
It commonly indicates a corrupt or wrong assembly, incompatible architecture, or an assembly unsuitable for the application’s target framework. Reinstall the matching package instead of replacing the file manually.
