In Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, a Mythic Path is a major supernatural progression choice: it gives your hero distinctive powers and influences how the character and story develop. The game lists nine paths, ranging from the celestial Angel to the undead Lich and the reality-bending Trickster. The choice is more than a character label, but the available official descriptions do not establish which path is strongest or provide a reliable basis for build rankings.
What is a Mythic Path?
A Mythic Path is a defining progression and narrative choice in the CRPG. Owlcat says each path improves the hero in unique ways, adds a layer to character development, and helps the hero and allies face powerful enemies. Paths also connect to supernatural powers and allies that can contribute to the crusade, so the choice reaches beyond the hero’s combat identity.
The game’s crusade is a strategic layer alongside party adventuring: the player commands the Fifth Crusade, recruits troops and leaders, builds armies, and takes territories. Owlcat’s overview presents this as a distinct part of the game, not simply another name for adventuring with the party. Owlcat’s official game page
Which Mythic Paths are in the game?
The official Steam listing names nine Mythic Paths. Their names communicate broad fantasy themes, but the short descriptions below should not be read as a full ability list or a measure of comparative strength.

What does choosing a path change?
Your hero’s supernatural progression
Each path grants a distinct direction for the hero’s development. Owlcat’s overview supports the broad point that paths provide unique powers; it does not establish a complete, patch-specific ability list or show how individual powers compare in practice.

The story and character development
Owlcat presents Mythic Paths as part of character development, so the choice has narrative significance as well as mechanical significance. The cited official descriptions do not specify the full story consequences, companion reactions, or quest outcomes for each path.
Allies and the crusade
Paths can connect the hero to supernatural allies and powers used in the crusade. The crusade itself involves recruiting troops and leaders, building armies, and taking territories; the available overview does not detail how each path changes those activities.
How should you choose a path?
Start with the kind of character and fantasy you want to inhabit, then consider the broad power or ally identity that appeals to you. If story direction and companion or crusade effects matter most, treat those as path-specific questions: the official overviews establish that paths influence development and connect to the crusade, but do not document every outcome.
- Choose by theme: decide whether a celestial, undead, demonic, trickster, or other fantasy fits the hero you want to play.
- Consider broad play identity: the Angel description explicitly highlights summoning, healing, and protection; the Lich description emphasizes necromancy and undead minions. For the other paths, the official sources cited here do not provide comparable detail.
- Do not infer a ranking: the available official descriptions do not establish which path is strongest, best for a particular build, or most effective in a given game version.
- Verify specific commitments separately: exact unlock conditions, timing, and quest outcomes are not established by these official overviews, so they should not be assumed from a general path description.
Is CRPG Mythic progression the same as tabletop Pathfinder Mythic rules?
They are related, but they are not interchangeable rules explanations. In an October 4, 2024 article, Paizo author Michael Sayre described mythic in tabletop play as an extra layer of power and resources that sits above a normal character. That discussion refers to tabletop play and Owlcat’s adaptation; it is useful context, not a technical guide to the CRPG’s exact mechanics. Paizo: “What is Mythic?”
Paizo also publishes a tabletop Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path. Its Player’s Guide says that Pathfinder RPG Mythic Adventures is required to run that Adventure Path as intended. That requirement applies to the tabletop campaign, not to the video game. Paizo’s tabletop Adventure Path catalog · Wrath of the Righteous Player’s Guide
