There is no single winner for every point in Naruto. Sasuke has the clearer result in the first major Final Valley fight: Naruto is left unconscious while Sasuke remains standing. Their final battle is different. Both arrive with Six Paths power, use their strongest techniques, exhaust their chakra and continue fighting hand to hand. The official account does not declare one of them categorically stronger in that confrontation.
The most accurate answer is therefore encounter-specific. Compare the power each can access, how well each controls it, the tactics shown in that fight and the actual outcome, rather than treating either character as permanently superior across the entire story.

What “stronger” means in this rivalry
Naruto and Sasuke do not remain at one fixed level. Their abilities, reserves and control change as the story progresses, and the circumstances of a particular encounter matter. A character can have the better result in one fight without establishing a universal ranking for every earlier or later stage.
Four questions produce a fair comparison:
- What power is available? The first Final Valley battle involves Naruto’s Nine Tails chakra and Sasuke’s Curse Mark and powered-up Sharingan. The final duel involves Six Paths power, Kurama and Susano’o.
- How is that power used? Naruto’s cloak is described as helping him evade attacks, launch chakra-based counters and withstand Sasuke’s fire technique. Sasuke’s Sharingan helps him predict Naruto’s attacks.
- What happens in the encounter? A visible result matters, but it is still a result from that matchup and those conditions.
- Does the source actually rank them? The official retrospectives cover selected confrontations, not a complete scorecard for every arc or every later form.
Using those tests prevents two common errors: calling Sasuke the permanent winner because he stands after the first Final Valley fight, or calling Naruto the permanent winner because the final clash ends without a simple declaration. Neither conclusion is supported by the official summaries.

Scope of the story progression
The official retrospectives support a short progression rather than a complete arc-by-arc power chart. They describe the early rivalry, the first major Final Valley confrontation and the final duel. They do not establish a confident winner for every intervening event, nor do they provide a complete comparison for post-series states.
That limitation is important for readers looking for an answer “at each point.” The honest version is a milestone guide: identify what the story explicitly shows, then label stages where the material does not provide a direct comparison instead of filling the gaps with invented numbers or assumed multipliers.
Early rivalry: a developing contest, not a measured ranking
The hospital rooftop clash
An early hospital-rooftop confrontation begins as a sparring match and escalates into a serious clash. The official retrospective uses it to show how quickly the teammates’ rivalry becomes consequential. It is evidence that their abilities are already close enough to create a meaningful conflict, but it does not provide a formal strength score or a definitive winner that can be carried through the rest of the story.

Naruto and Sasuke are still learning how to apply their techniques under pressure, and the rivalry is as much about ambition and recognition as it is about raw output. The recap does not say that one character is stronger at every mission or training session, so a precise ranking would go beyond what it establishes.
Sasuke leaves and Naruto begins a new training path
Sasuke later leaves the Hidden Leaf Village to join Orochimaru. After that departure, Naruto sets out with Jiraiya for training. This is a major turning point because the two characters are no longer improving side by side in the same setting. Their development becomes divergent, making direct comparisons between every intervening scene even less reliable.
The separation explains why the next major comparison is best treated as a specific battle rather than the next entry in a continuous statistical ladder. The official recap identifies the change in direction, but it does not assign a point-by-point advantage to Naruto or Sasuke during the entire period between the rooftop clash and the Final Valley.
First Final Valley fight: Sasuke wins the encounter
Power available to each fighter
In the first major Final Valley battle, Sasuke allows his Curse Mark to spread and uses his powered-up Sharingan. Naruto draws on the Nine Tails’ chakra. These are not ordinary versions of either fighter: both depend on heightened states that change speed, defense and attack options.

Sasuke’s Sharingan gives him a tactical reading of Naruto’s movements. The official account specifically describes it as helping him predict Naruto’s attacks. Naruto’s Nine Tails cloak supplies a different set of advantages: it helps him evade, provides chakra-based counterattacks and protects him from Sasuke’s fire technique.
How the fight develops
The escalation continues when Sasuke advances to the Curse Mark’s second state. Naruto and Sasuke then prepare their signature attacks. The sequence matters because it shows neither fighter winning through an untouched base state; each is relying on a dangerous enhancement and trying to convert that enhancement into a decisive opening.
From a tactical perspective, Sasuke’s advantage is anticipation. If the Sharingan lets him read an incoming attack, he can choose the timing of his own response rather than simply trading blows. Naruto’s advantage is adaptability through the Nine Tails chakra: the cloak gives him additional protection and lets him keep attacking while absorbing pressure that would be more damaging in a normal state.
The observed result
The official retrospective ends this confrontation with Naruto unconscious and Sasuke standing in a daze. That makes Sasuke the winner of this specific encounter by immediate outcome.

That wording should remain narrow. It does not prove that Sasuke would defeat Naruto in every possible rematch, that his powered-up state is stronger in every category, or that Naruto’s abilities were irrelevant. It tells us who is still standing when this battle ends. The fight is therefore the clearest point in these story milestones where one character has an unambiguous encounter result.
| Story point | Power highlighted | Control or tactical feature | Observed result | Supported verdict |

| Early hospital-rooftop clash | Teammates’ developing techniques | The sparring match escalates into a serious confrontation | The retrospective does not provide a lasting ranking | Unresolved as a general strength comparison |

| Final Valley rematch | Six Paths power; Kurama and Susano’o | Sasuke uses Susano’o as a vessel for gathered Tailed Beast chakra; Naruto sustains his Kurama transformation with shadow clones | Both exhaust their chakra, continue hand to hand and use their last reserves | No simple official strength verdict |
Why the first Final Valley result does not settle the whole rivalry
The first fight is often used as a shortcut: Sasuke was standing, so Sasuke must always have been stronger. That argument confuses a battle result with a franchise-wide statistic.
Both fighters used altered states, and the fight tested more than destructive force. Sasuke’s ability to read Naruto’s attacks, Naruto’s ability to evade and defend with the Nine Tails cloak, the timing of their signature techniques and the endurance required to keep those forms active all shaped the outcome. A different story point could provide different available powers and different tactical conditions.

The official material also does not supply a numerical multiplier for the Curse Mark, the Nine Tails chakra or the Sharingan. There is no authoritative percentage, power level or complete ranking that can convert this one result into a universal formula. The defensible conclusion remains: Sasuke wins the first Final Valley encounter, while the broader rivalry remains open.

The final duel: peak powers, exhausted fighters
Both reach a higher tier
The final confrontation is explicitly presented as a meeting between fighters much stronger than they were at their previous Final Valley battle. Both possess power from the Sage of Six Paths. The comparison is therefore not a repeat of the earlier Curse Mark-versus-Nine Tails setup.
The signature visual and tactical contrast is Kurama against Susano’o. Sasuke makes Susano’o a vessel for gathered Tailed Beast chakra. Naruto maintains his Kurama transformation with the help of shadow clones. Those details show that each fighter is using a different method to sustain a massive attack state: Sasuke concentrates collected power through Susano’o, while Naruto uses clones to maintain and distribute his transformation.
The strongest techniques do not produce a clean winner
The official birthday retrospective identifies Naruto manga Volume 72 as containing chapters 692–697, the chapters tied directly to this final showdown. Its account says both characters release their strongest moves and drain their chakra. The match remains unsettled after those attacks and shifts into hand-to-hand combat.
That transition is central to the answer. If the fight had established a simple superiority through one decisive technique, the summary could present a clear winner. Instead, both combatants are exhausted and still continue. They draw on their last reserves for one final strike, so the official framing is an all-out contest between matched peaks rather than a formal declaration that one has greater overall power.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat can and cannot be concluded
You can say that the final versions are dramatically more powerful than the fighters in the first Final Valley battle. You can say that both have Six Paths power and that Kurama and Susano’o are central to the exchange. You can say that each empties his reserves and remains capable of hand-to-hand combat afterward.
You cannot accurately say that the official finale names Naruto or Sasuke as categorically stronger. The retrospective emphasizes the exhausted, continuing contest and does not turn the final exchange into a numbered ranking. Any claim that one is definitively superior must therefore be presented as an interpretation, not as the official verdict.

Milestone-by-milestone verdict
Before the first Final Valley battle
Verdict: unresolved. The early rivalry and hospital-rooftop clash establish a serious contest, but the official recap does not give a complete comparative result for this stage or for every event before Sasuke’s departure.
First Final Valley battle
Verdict: Sasuke has the encounter advantage. His Curse Mark and powered-up Sharingan are matched against Naruto’s Nine Tails chakra, and the immediate ending leaves Naruto unconscious and Sasuke standing.
Between the two Final Valley battles
Verdict: no complete ranking is established. Sasuke’s departure to join Orochimaru and Naruto’s training journey with Jiraiya show that their development paths diverge. The official summaries do not score every intervening stage, so assigning a winner to each arc would require claims they do not support.
Final Valley rematch
Verdict: effectively matched in the official framing. Both use Six Paths power, their strongest techniques and their signature giant forms. Their chakra is drained, the fight continues hand to hand and the summary does not name one as the universally stronger fighter.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Control, tactics and stamina: the dimensions behind the result
Available power
Power access changes the comparison more than a character label does. Naruto’s Nine Tails cloak and Sasuke’s Curse Mark are the defining enhancements in the first Final Valley fight. In the finale, Six Paths power raises both fighters to a different scale, with Kurama and Susano’o serving as the major manifestations.
Control
The first fight gives concrete examples of control in action. Naruto’s cloak is not described merely as extra energy; it improves evasion, supplies counterattacks and protects him from fire. Sasuke’s Sharingan is not merely an eye technique; it helps him predict Naruto’s movements. These are practical advantages that influence whether a fighter can turn power into a successful sequence.
Stamina and reserves
The final duel demonstrates why stamina must be separated from peak output. Both fighters unleash their strongest moves and drain their chakra, yet neither immediately stops. The battle proceeds into close combat and then into one final exchange using their remaining reserves. A comparison based only on the largest attack would miss the endurance shown after those attacks.

Encounter result
Outcome remains important, but it must be labeled correctly. “Sasuke wins the first Final Valley fight” is supported. “Sasuke is stronger than Naruto at every point in the story” is not. Likewise, the final duel’s continued contest supports a matched reading, not a claim that neither fighter has any situational advantage.
How to read the final confrontation in the manga
Naruto manga Volume 72 contains chapters 692–697, the chapter range identified with the final showdown in the official retrospective. Reading that sequence is useful when you want the complete progression from the Six Paths-powered clash through the exhausted hand-to-hand phase, rather than relying on a single still image or an isolated quotation.
Keep the format distinction clear: Volume 72 and chapters 692–697 are manga identifiers. They are not anime episode numbers, and they should not be presented as if they were an episode range.

During the Sasuke Retrieval retrospective, Sasuke says, “IF THAT’S WHAT YOU THINK, THEN ALL I HAVE TO DO… …IS SEVER THAT BOND!” The line expresses his decision to break from Naruto and the bond between them. It is character dialogue, not an objective narrator’s measurement of who has greater power.
In the finale retrospective, Sasuke declares, “ENOUGH. I’M THE STRONGEST IN THIS WORLD NOW. AND THIS WILL BE MY FIRST STEP INTO THE SHADOWS.” The statement is intentionally Sasuke’s boast within the story. It helps establish his mindset at that moment, but it is not an official statistical ranking, especially when the same account describes a final battle in which both fighters exhaust themselves and continue.
Common mistakes when comparing Naruto and Sasuke
- Turning one ending into a permanent ranking: Sasuke standing after the first Final Valley fight identifies that encounter’s winner, not every future matchup.
- Ignoring the forms being used: A comparison must name the Nine Tails chakra, Curse Mark, Sharingan, Six Paths power, Kurama or Susano’o involved at that point.
- Equating a boast with narration: Sasuke’s claim to be the strongest reveals his belief and intent; it does not replace the battle’s observed evidence.
- Using invented numbers: The official material provides no authoritative multiplier, percentage or complete strength statistic for these stages.
- Filling every story gap: The available retrospectives do not rank each arc or establish later post-series states. Marking a stage unresolved is more accurate than guessing.
- Confusing manga and anime references: Volume 72 and chapters 692–697 identify the manga material for the final showdown; they are not anime episode labels.
Final answer: who is stronger?
If the question means “Who wins the first major Final Valley fight?” the answer is Sasuke: Naruto is unconscious and Sasuke remains standing after their enhanced-state battle.
If it means “Who is stronger in the final duel?” the official material does not give a clean one-name answer. Naruto and Sasuke both use Six Paths power, fight through Kurama-versus-Susano’o exchanges, exhaust their chakra and continue with hand-to-hand combat and their last reserves. The most accurate reading is that the final confrontation presents them as matched at their peaks, while the first Final Valley battle gives Sasuke the specific encounter win.
That distinction—milestone result versus universal ranking—is the only way to answer the title without claiming a complete chart that the official story summaries do not provide.
