For a mode that can keep going after NBA 2K25’s servers retire, choose MyNBA, Play Now, The W or MyWNBA. 2K says those modes will remain playable offline for existing owners. MyCAREER and MyTEAM will not: both become unavailable when online services end. The current schedule says the game leaves sale on October 30, 2026, and online services retire after December 31, 2026.
When is NBA 2K25 getting delisted, and what does the shutdown mean?
According to 2K’s NBA 2K25: Server Sunset notice, updated October 2, 2026, the game will no longer be available for purchase beginning October 30, 2026. Its online services are scheduled to retire on December 31, 2026; from January 1, 2027, multiplayer and online modes will be inaccessible.

Existing owners can still redownload the game and play its offline modes. 2K’s separate online services status page lists December 31 as the scheduled retirement date, but warns that projected dates can change. Treat the dates below as the current published plan, not an immutable guarantee.
The practical distinction is important: a mode that has single-player elements may still depend on 2K’s servers. 2K specifically says MyCAREER and MyTEAM will no longer be available and players will no longer be able to earn Virtual Currency (VC). Play Now, MyNBA, The W and MyWNBA are listed as playable offline. Multiplayer, Online Leagues and community sharing will not work after retirement.

Which NBA 2K25 modes are best for you?
There is no established universal ranking. The best choice depends on whether you want a lasting offline mode, quick games, franchise management, a player story, card collection or WNBA play—and on your platform generation.

Can you play MyNBA offline?
Yes. 2K lists MyNBA among the modes that remain playable offline, making it the strongest choice for an ongoing team-building experience after the shutdown. MyNBA’s Steph Era lets players revisit or rewrite the 2017 Golden State Warriors’ championship legacy, as described in 2K’s NBA 2K25 launch announcement. Do not assume every online-connected feature will remain; Online Leagues and community sharing are among the functions 2K says will be lost.
On New Gen, MyGM adds a role-playing general-manager experience. 2K identifies New Gen as PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, so check your platform before choosing a version based on MyGM or other generation-specific features.

Which modes are safest for quick or WNBA play?
Play Now for a fast game
Play Now is the straightforward pick for a one-off matchup, and 2K lists it as playable offline after service retirement. That does not preserve online matches or server-connected features.

The W and MyWNBA for WNBA play
2K describes The W as a path to becoming a WNBA legend, and says The W and MyWNBA remain available offline. Choose them for WNBA-focused play that can continue without the servers, rather than for online features.
Learn 2K / 2KU for practice
For controls, drills, mini-games and practice scenarios, 2K’s launch announcement describes Learn 2K features, while its service status page includes 2KU/Learn 2K among offline modes.

Will MyCAREER still work after the shutdown?
No. MyCAREER becomes unavailable beginning January 1, 2027, according to 2K’s sunset notice. That includes its appeal as a player-progression and story mode: 2K’s launch materials highlight the Heart of a Dynasty flashback story, but the mode is not an enduring post-shutdown option.
Is MyTEAM worth playing before servers retire?
MyTEAM is a fit for collection and competitive-mode fans while service remains live, but 2K says it will no longer be available from January 1, 2027. The launch announcement promoted Triple Threat Park, Breakout, Showdown, King of the Court and the Auction House. Those features do not change the shutdown caveat, so MyTEAM is best approached as a mode to enjoy before retirement, not as a lasting reason to buy the game.
What changes by platform or generation?
2K announced NBA 2K25 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Its features and editions announcement identifies PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC as New Gen. ProPLAY and The City are New Gen features; crossplay is limited to New Gen PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Mode features are not identical across generations, so confirm the edition and platform before buying for a particular feature.

2K also announced a North American physical WNBA Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That announcement’s launch prices are historical, not current pricing. Since purchase availability is scheduled to end October 30, 2026, confirm retailer stock and edition before making a purchase.
What is the best long-term pick?
For a mode with a clear offline future, MyNBA is the strongest all-around recommendation; choose Play Now for quick matches, or The W and MyWNBA for offline WNBA play. Learn 2K/2KU remains useful for practice. MyCAREER and MyTEAM may suit their audiences while services are live, but 2K’s schedule means neither remains available after the retirement takes effect.
