No. The RPCS3 team says it has no plans to develop an emulator other than RPCS3. That is a statement about the project’s current priorities—not a claim that emulating the original Xbox or Xbox 360 is impossible, or news of what Microsoft or another emulator team may do.
What did the RPCS3 team say?
In an exchange reported by Notebookcheck on October 5, 2026, a user asked whether the project could assign a small team to fork or develop an original Xbox emulator, and possibly an Xbox 360 emulator as well. Notebookcheck reported the team’s answer: “we have no plans to work on any other emulators besides RPCS3”.

The report also attributes this explanation to the team: “no particular interest in Xbox and most of us do not even own an Xbox console”. Notebookcheck identifies the speaker as the RPCS3 team account, not a named individual. The original X post was not directly accessible for independent verification, so these comments are attributed here as Notebookcheck reported them. Read Notebookcheck’s report.
Does that mean Xbox emulation is impossible?
No. The statement describes what the RPCS3 team intends to work on; it does not assess whether original Xbox or Xbox 360 emulation is technically possible. It also says nothing about plans by other emulator developers.
#1 Best Overall
RPCS3’s published FAQ describes the project as developing a PlayStation 3 emulator and explains that improvements to emulator functionality benefit games that use that functionality. That focus is consistent with the team’s reported response, but it does not rule on the feasibility of emulating another console. See the RPCS3 FAQ.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Has Microsoft announced broader Xbox emulation for PC?
Notebookcheck discusses Microsoft’s Xbox backward-compatibility efforts on PC and speculates that more comprehensive official emulation could become possible in coming years. The report describes a next-generation Xbox scenario as speculation; it is not a Microsoft announcement, commitment or confirmed timeline. The RPCS3 team’s response should not be read as confirmation of one.
