If NBA 2K25 freezes, closes to the PS5 home screen, or displays an error, start by recording exactly what happened and whether it repeats in the same mode or after the same action. Then work from low-risk checks—such as updating and restarting—toward reinstalling or Safe Mode repairs. These are official troubleshooting suggestions, not guaranteed fixes; stop when the problem is resolved and back up saved data before system repair steps.
Start with the symptom, not a guessed cause
NBA 2K Support’s NBA 2K25 troubleshooting page explicitly asks, “Are you crashing or freezing in game?” That wording covers different symptoms, but they do not necessarily share one cause. Note whether the game froze, suddenly closed, returned to the PS5 home screen, or showed an error code. CE-108255-1 is treated by 2K as an app crash after a game suddenly closes; it is the most directly relevant code-specific guidance here.
Use the checks below in order where practical. PlayStation’s general game-start instructions are most relevant when NBA 2K25 will not launch; 2K’s CE-108255-1 steps apply specifically to that crash code. A console that shuts down entirely, a mode that fails only when online, and a game that closes with CE-108255-1 are different patterns, so avoid assuming one diagnosis fits all of them.

Record the error and what the PS5 did
Write down the exact code and message, if any, and whether the game froze, closed, or returned you to the home screen. This makes later support requests more useful than a general report that the game “crashes.” PlayStation asks for error codes and a detailed description of the problem.

See whether the failure is repeatable
Check whether the crash happens in the same game mode or after the same action. For CE-108255-1, 2K asks players to report, “What game mode(s) were you in when this occurred?” A repeatable trigger is useful evidence, but it does not by itself identify the cause.

Check for an NBA 2K25 update
For CE-108255-1, 2K recommends checking for a game update: highlight NBA 2K25 in the Game Library and select Check for Update. Follow any update prompt and see whether the same symptom remains.

Restart the PS5
Use the PS5 power menu to restart the console, then try the same game mode or action again. PlayStation includes restarting among its general game-start troubleshooting steps.

Check where the game is installed
If NBA 2K25 is installed on USB extended storage, PlayStation’s launch guidance says to move it to PS5 internal storage before troubleshooting further. Separately, 2K suggests trying an SSD if you already have one available. That is an optional test, not a reason to buy a drive or an indication that storage causes every crash.

Check system software and licenses when they fit the problem
PlayStation recommends checking that the PS5 system software is current. Its guidance also includes restoring licenses, which is more pertinent when the game will not launch or access appears to be the issue than when a game reliably starts and later crashes. Use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses if you are troubleshooting an access or launch problem.

Test the network for connection-dependent failures
If the issue occurs in an online or connection-dependent mode, run the PS5’s network connection test. 2K’s general console troubleshooting guidance says a connectivity test can help determine whether a launch problem is related to the connection. A network or session failure should not be treated as proof of a local app crash.

Reinstall NBA 2K25 if simpler checks do not help
Both 2K’s CE-108255-1 guidance and PlayStation’s general game-start instructions include deleting and reinstalling the game. Before removing it, confirm that your saved data is backed up or otherwise available to your account. Reinstallation is a later step because it takes more time than checking updates or restarting.

Use Safe Mode only when needed
For CE-108255-1, 2K recommends rebuilding the PS5 database through Safe Mode. Back up saved data before repair or update work: 2K’s general console troubleshooting guide advises a backup before Safe Mode operations and notes that PlayStation Plus is required for cloud storage. Follow 2K’s CE-108255-1 sequence:

- Turn the PS5 off by holding its power button for three seconds.
- After it is fully off, press and hold the power button again. Release it at the second beep, about seven seconds after the first.
- Connect the controller using the original USB cable and press the PS button.
- Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Rebuild Database.
2K’s general console guide also lists Safe Mode options such as Repair Console Storage, Update System Software and Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Choose an option only when it fits the issue and follow the on-screen instructions; these operations are not presented as guaranteed NBA 2K25 fixes.

Report a persistent or repeatable crash
If CE-108255-1 continues after the relevant steps, submit a ticket to 2K through its NBA 2K25 support page. Include the error code, mode, the patch or update after which the issue began, and the steps that reproduce it. If you contact PlayStation, provide the code, a detailed sequence of events and, if possible, a screenshot or video.
Choose the next step by where the failure occurs
- The game closes with CE-108255-1: Follow 2K’s code-specific update, reinstall, optional SSD and database-rebuild suggestions.
- The game will not launch: Use PlayStation’s general launch guidance, including restart, license restoration where relevant, system software checks and reinstalling.
- Only an online or connection-dependent mode fails: Test the network and report the mode and trigger; do not assume it is a local installation fault.
- The PS5 itself shuts down: That differs from an app closing to the home screen. Record the console behavior and seek PlayStation support rather than treating it as an ordinary NBA 2K25 app crash.
