What 2K announced for MyGM
For NBA 2K25, 2K described MyGM on new-generation consoles as a full role-playing franchise experience. You take on the general manager’s job, developing a management style and handling conversations, goals, and team responsibilities.

Choose a GM background
At the start, players can select a backstory such as former player, scout, finance savant, or closer. Each background sets initial attributes and baseline boosts, giving the GM a different starting profile.
Handle conversations and goals
Dynamic conversations with staff and players address their needs and goals. 2K said a GM’s backstory and attribute ratings can influence dialogue choices and affect the team’s trajectory and outcomes.

What’s new in MyNBA
MyNBA’s announced additions focus on historical play and control over the league’s structure and competitions.
The Steph Era starts in 2016
The new historical starting point lets players relive or rewrite Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ run. The era includes Curry’s superstar teammates Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant.

The NBA Cup comes to MyNBA
The announced NBA Cup format has group-stage play followed by single-elimination knockout rounds.

Players can change the league’s size, whether to recreate historic expansion or make larger changes in a modern-era save.

How to choose between MyGM and MyNBA
Choose MyGM if you want the more guided, character-driven management experience: a defined GM background, conversations, goals, office interactions, and perks. Choose MyNBA if you are more interested in starting in a historical era or shaping league-wide features such as the NBA Cup and the number of teams.
These are the features 2K emphasized for each mode; the announcement does not establish that their systems are mutually exclusive. The publisher’s June 3, 2025 NBA 2K25 mode overview also describes MyGM as franchise management involving roster building and managing Governor and team expectations, and reiterates MyNBA’s Curry Era, NBA Cup, expansion and contraction, and League News in Eras.

2K published the feature reveal on August 13, 2024, and named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC for the announced features. It is a reveal about NBA 2K25, not a guide to features in later NBA 2K editions. In the announcement, Visual Concepts VP of NBA 2K Development Erick Boenisch described the design intent: “We’re excited for players to customize the MyNBA and MyGM modes in NBA 2K25 to shape the league in their image.”
