Existing owners can still redownload the game and play supported offline modes, so the shutdown does not make every part of NBA 2K25 unplayable.
When will NBA 2K25 be removed from Steam?
2K Support and the Steam listing both give October 30, 2026 as the date NBA 2K25 will no longer be available for purchase. That confirms the cutoff for Steam; 2K’s support notice does not enumerate every other storefront or platform covered, so it should not be treated as a definitive list of store removals. 2K Support’s notice was published September 3, 2026 and updated October 2, while Steam’s listing repeats the Steam dates.

What happens when NBA 2K25’s servers shut down?
2K describes December 31, 2026 as the discontinuation date. Its more specific guidance says online play and online modes will no longer be available as of January 1, 2027. That distinction matters: the scheduled end of online services does not mean existing owners immediately lose access to the game’s supported offline modes.
- MyCAREER and MyTEAM: unavailable once online services end.
- Multiplayer and other online modes: unavailable starting January 1, 2027.
- Virtual Currency: players will no longer be able to earn VC after online services end.
2K’s online-services status page, updated September 14, 2026, lists NBA 2K25 services as scheduled through December 31. It also notes that retirement dates may be moved earlier or later, so these are the current official schedule, not an immutable guarantee.

Can owners still redownload and play NBA 2K25?
Yes. 2K says existing owners will still be able to redownload the game and play offline modes. It lists Play Now, MyNBA, The W, and MyWNBA as modes that remain available. Some features within those modes rely on servers: 2K specifically warns that Online Leagues and community sharing will not work after the shutdown. Offline access therefore does not mean every feature within every surviving mode remains functional.

The choice depends on what you want from the game and whether the relevant platform edition is available to you before the cutoff.

Actual regional availability and platform inventory were not established for every edition. Check the store for the platform you use rather than assuming the Steam date or listing applies identically elsewhere.
