The guide described here is Barry Scott Will’s PC Black Edition FAQ, version 1.30, dated January 30, 2006; it says the primary career mode is the same in the standard and Black editions. How career progression works
Think of the Blacklist as a sequence of rival challenges rather than a linear set of story missions. To become eligible to race a rival, complete the available races and satisfy the relevant milestone and bounty requirements. Winning that rival race advances you toward the top of the 15-driver list and, ultimately, Razor.
Use the in-game career requirements as your checklist: a race win alone may not be enough to unlock the next rival. The FAQ is organized to help match Blacklist rivals with their race and requirement information, alongside descriptions of races, safe houses, shops, challenges and the world map.
Plan each race around its route
Routes reward deliberate decisions. A shortcut can save time, but taking it blindly can cost more than staying on the main road; difficult turns and traffic make timing matter. The FAQ’s route notes are advice from its author, not results of new testing, and should be treated as guidance to adapt to your own run.

Before the start
- Review the event route and note likely cutoffs, sharp turns and hazards.
- Decide which shortcuts are worth attempting instead of improvising at the last moment.
- Keep nitrous for a useful straight or a speed-trap approach, where sustained speed can matter more than a brief burst before a turn.
During the race
- Approach difficult turns with enough control to avoid losing time in a collision or wide exit.
- Use a shortcut only when its entry and exit are manageable at your current speed.
- Save nitrous for a stretch where you can use it effectively rather than spending it just because it is available.
Manage police pursuits deliberately
Pursuits are a central part of the 2005 walkthrough, not a distraction from the career. The FAQ discusses pursuit breakers, hiding spots and breaking line of sight as ways to manage or end a chase. Treat the surroundings as part of your escape plan: look for a usable breaker or hiding place, then create distance and get out of police view instead of continuing to drive predictably in sight of pursuing cars.
- Pursuit breakers: Use them when their position and timing make them useful to disrupting the pursuit.
- Hiding spots: Head for a suitable place to conceal the car when you have an opportunity to get clear.
- Line of sight: Break police visibility and use an escape route to help bring the chase under control.
Make sure you are using the right walkthrough
Search results can conflate two games titled Need for Speed: Most Wanted. This page covers the 2005 game’s Rockport career and Blacklist progression. The separate 2012 game is set in Fairhaven and uses a Most Wanted List; a listing for its walkthrough describes story, collectible and miscellaneous sections. Detailed information about that 2012 guide is limited, so use a year-qualified guide title before following game-specific steps.
