What is the NeoPixel Game Console?
Pixel and Play is an interactive hardware and software project developed from a fourth-year Creative Electronics module at the University of Málaga School of Telecommunications. Hackster’s project entry is dated February 20, 2020. The project aims to make creating games for NeoPixel matrices easier by combining a purpose-built controller, display, supporting software and build files.
It is best understood as a platform for a maker to assemble and program, rather than a commercial console with a fixed game catalogue. The available project descriptions establish its intended design, but do not document a tested, finished build or guarantee that every matrix will work with it.
What hardware does the build use?
Controller, display and PCB
Hackster’s parts list names an Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense, a generic RGB NeoPixel matrix and a custom PCB. The PCB is described as adjusting logic levels between the Arduino and the display, and reducing the Arduino supply to 5 V from the roughly 8 V battery supply. Those are project-specific descriptions; use the project schematic and component documentation when checking an actual build.

A separate 2020 project overview recommends a 16×16 RGB display using WS2812B chips. That is a recommendation in the overview, not a universal compatibility guarantee. Check matrix dimensions, voltage and wiring against the project files and the particular panel you plan to use.
Power and build materials
The same overview lists two 3.7 V, 3000 mAh 18650 cells and a holder for two cells in series, as well as a PCB and components, solder, wires and small wood screws. Hackster also lists soldering supplies and fabrication tools including a 3D printer, soldering iron and screwdriver or multitool. These are the project’s listed parts and tools, not a substitute for confirming the requirements of the specific files and components you choose.

What software and project files are included?
The project materials point to an open hardware repository with enclosure STL files and PCB Gerbers, an Arduino library repository, an Instructables assembly guide and installation through the Arduino Library Manager. The library description lists more than 40 processing-like functions, support for LED layouts and matrix transformations, drawing methods, image display, and sample games and demos. MatrixPaint, a Processing application, is intended for preparing images for the matrix.
The 2020 overview lists Arduino IDE 1.8.10, Cura, Processing 3.5.4, KiCad 5.1.5 and SolidWorks 2019. Those are dated references from the project materials; they should not be treated as current minimum versions. Consult the project’s repositories and build instructions for the files and software versions relevant to your setup.

Is it the same as Adafruit’s NeoPix Arcade Kit?
No. Pixel and Play and Adafruit’s NeoPix Arcade Kit are different projects with different hardware and formats.

The overview also identifies the recommended WS2812B matrix and example parts list.
