Developed by Nomada Studio and published by Devolver Digital, Neva follows Alba after a traumatic event, when she encounters a wolf cub. The two cross a once-beautiful landscape in decline, and their relationship develops through trust, cooperation, and care as the cub grows. It is an action-adventure platformer rather than a combat-heavy action game. Devolver Digital’s October 14, 2024 launch announcement describes platforming, puzzles, and combat against monstrous enemies, alongside a minimal interface, delicate art, traditional animation, and a score by Berlinist. Does the art do more than look beautiful?
The visual approach is built to carry atmosphere as well as presentation. Watercolor-like environments, animation, and changes in color and scenery are part of how the game frames Alba and Neva’s journey. That makes the art an integral part of the storytelling, not merely a decorative layer around platforming.

Whether those elements make the game feel moving, whether its emotional restraint earns its impact, and how effectively the score responds to particular scenes are matters of play and listening. The available source material establishes the creators’ intent and credits Berlinist for the music, but cannot support a claim that the experience is devastating or that every player will find it so.
How much gameplay is there beyond the presentation?
The published feature set includes traversal, puzzles, and light combat using Alba’s sword and her companion. That points to a deliberately focused adventure, not a deep combat system or an expansive puzzle game. But a feature list cannot establish how responsive movement feels, whether platforming is consistently readable, how varied the puzzles are, or whether enemy encounters remain satisfying across the journey.

The wolf’s growth and evolving partnership are intended to affect how the pair cooperate. How much that changes the moment-to-moment play, and whether the balance of action and story sustains momentum, require firsthand evaluation. Readers seeking a precise account of difficulty, combat depth, or mechanical variety should not treat the publisher’s description as proof of those qualities.
Which version of Neva should you choose?
The original game released on October 15, 2024. Devolver Digital announced PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch; its later launch announcement also lists PS4. The official PlayStation listing confirms the October 15 date: PlayStation’s Neva listing. The available evidence does not establish that one platform performs better than another.

Nintendo’s US store listing dates Neva – Complete Edition to February 19, 2026. It includes the base game and Neva: Prologue, an add-on with three locations, unique mechanics, new challenges, enemies, and boss encounters. Nintendo’s listing recommends the Prologue for returning players after the main game, so it is framed as additional content rather than the starting point for a first playthrough: Nintendo’s US Complete Edition listing.
The same US listing presents the Complete Edition as digital and shows the Prologue separately at a regular listed price of $2.99. That is a captured store detail, not a guarantee of the current price or of availability in other regions. For a first playthrough, choose a platform you own and a listing that clearly includes the base game; consider the Complete Edition if you also want the Prologue. What do the scores say—and what don’t they say?
Devolver Digital’s 2024 annual report gives Neva an average Metacritic score of 87. This is the publisher’s reported figure, not a newly checked review aggregate: Devolver Digital’s 2024 annual report.
That score concerns the base game. It should not be confused with the separate Prologue: a Metacritic PC critic page showed a 77 metascore from seven critic reviews when crawled in 2026.
