Character Ascension unlocks at Hunter Rank 10. Once you reach that rank, level a character to its current cap, gather the character-specific materials shown on the Breakthrough screen, pay the Beetle Coin fee, and confirm the upgrade. Six breakthroughs raise the maximum level from 20 to 80. Hunter Rank rises through Hunter Level EXP earned from activities and resource runs; the trials page lists repeatable runs costing 40 Pixels and awarding 200 Hunter Level EXP on the listed entries.
What you need before ascending a character
Ascension is gated by your account progression rather than by a character alone. The progression requirement identified for Neverness to Everness is Hunter Rank 10. Before that rank, the Breakthrough path remains unavailable even if you have enough experience items, coins, or boss drops.

- Hunter Rank 10: unlocks character Ascension.
- Character at its current level cap: each breakthrough requires the character to reach the maximum level of the current phase.
- Character-specific materials: the required drops differ by character and are displayed in that character’s Breakthrough screen.
- Beetle Coins: every phase has a separate coin fee.
The level system ends at level 80 in the current progression reference. A character begins with a level-20 maximum, then advances through six Breakthrough phases, labeled B1 through B6 in the official character database.

Character level caps and Breakthrough fees
The phase pattern is consistent even though the material list changes from one character to another. Level the character to the requirement in the second column, then pay the fee and materials to unlock the cap in the third column.
#1 Best Overall
| Phase | Character level required before Breakthrough | New maximum level | Beetle Coin fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| Base | 20 | 20 | — |
| B1 | 20 | 30 | 25,000 Beetle Coins |
| B2 | 30 | 40 | 50,000 Beetle Coins |
| B3 | 40 | 50 | 75,000 Beetle Coins |
| B4 | 50 | 60 | 100,000 Beetle Coins |
| B5 | 60 | 70 | 125,000 Beetle Coins |
| B6 | 70 | 80 | 150,000 Beetle Coins |
The six listed fees total 525,000 Beetle Coins for one character’s complete sequence, before accounting for the cost of leveling the character or acquiring materials. The fee schedule is taken from the official database’s six-phase tracker for Zero; check the selected character’s own page in case a later database update changes a value.
How to ascend a character
- Reach Hunter Rank 10. Earn Hunter Level EXP from the game’s activities and resource runs until the rank requirement is met. Ascension cannot be opened before this account milestone.
- Open the character’s progression screen. Select the character you want to improve and open its Ascension or Breakthrough section. This screen is the authoritative checklist for that character’s next phase.
- Raise the character to the displayed cap. Use Hunter Guides and Beetle Coins to level the character. The first breakthrough is available when the character is level 20; later breakthroughs require levels 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70 respectively.
- Read the material list for the exact phase. Do not farm from a generic list. The screen identifies the drops and quantities for the selected character and phase, including any boss or activity source.
- Farm the missing drops. Run the activity, boss, or resource stage associated with the material shown in the Breakthrough screen. Materials are not universal across the roster.
- Check your Beetle Coins. The fee rises from 25,000 at B1 to 150,000 at B6. Keep the required amount available in addition to the material drops.
- Confirm Breakthrough. When the level, materials, and coin requirement are satisfied, choose the Breakthrough confirmation on the character page. The maximum level increases immediately to the next cap.
- Repeat through B6. After each upgrade, level the character to the new cap before opening the next phase. B6 raises the maximum to level 80.
Example: Zero’s material tracking
The official Zero page lists phase materials including Lost Whispers, Obscure Whispers, Paradoxical Whispers, and Charging Knight Spark Plug. These names illustrate why a universal farming route is unreliable: the next required drop can change by phase and by character. Use the target character’s live phase tracker rather than copying Zero’s list for another unit.
Hunter Guides: the character EXP items
Hunter Guides are character-level experience items, not Hunter Rank experience. The official database gives these values:
| Item | Character EXP granted |
|---|---|
| Rising Hunter Guide | 1,000 XP |
| Senior Hunter Guide | 5,000 XP |
| Elite Hunter Guide | 20,000 XP |
Spend the guides on the character that is approaching its current cap, then return to Breakthrough when the level requirement is reached. Guides do not replace the Hunter Rank 10 gate and do not substitute for the character-specific materials.
How Hunter Rank gains levels
Hunter Rank is advanced with Hunter Level EXP, a separate progression resource from character EXP. The official material listing identifies Hunter Level EXP sources that include Beat King, Black Tome, Headless Rider, Nestbound Bird, Sea Prisoner, Serenetti, and Swallowtail. The listing is marked current for NTE 1.4 on September 29, 2026, so activity availability and rewards should be checked against the current in-game or database entry.
Repeatable trials and the 40-Pixel cost
The official trials page shows repeatable resource runs priced at 40 Pixels. The listed reward fields include Hunter Level EXP ×200, Beetle Coins, Hunter Guides, and other upgrade materials, with the exact bundle depending on the run. Because the cost is stated per listed run, compare the reward panel of each available trial before spending Pixels.
Pixels are therefore an efficiency constraint. A run that gives Hunter Level EXP but no material needed for your next Breakthrough may be useful for rank progression, while a run that supplies the exact boss or currency drop can prevent a second farming session. The best choice depends on which bottleneck is stopping your next upgrade.

1. Set the next milestone first
Early in the process, the critical milestone is Hunter Rank 10. After Rank 10, the immediate target changes to the next character cap and its Breakthrough material list. Keep those two goals separate in your notes: Hunter Level EXP raises the account rank; Hunter Guides raise the character level.
2. Inspect the next Breakthrough before spending Pixels
Open the character’s phase tracker and record the next required materials, the Beetle Coin fee, and the level requirement. If the character is level 38, for example, the next cap is still 40; farming a later-phase item before B2 is available ties up Pixels without advancing the immediate upgrade.
3. Choose a trial by the limiting resource
Use the reward fields on the trials page to compare each 40-Pixel option across the following criteria:
Rank #3
- Brand New in box. The product ships with all relevant accessories
- Hunter Level EXP for reaching the next Hunter Rank.
- Beetle Coins for the upcoming Breakthrough fee.
- Hunter Guides or other character EXP rewards.
- The exact character material or boss access required by the next phase.
- Any time, unlock, or activity gate shown on the run.
If Rank 10 is still locked, prioritize the source with the most useful Hunter Level EXP among the runs you can enter. Once Rank 10 is reached, switch attention to the material and coin shortage that blocks the next Breakthrough.

4. Avoid over-leveling one resource while another is empty
A character cannot Breakthrough with Guides alone if a material or coin fee is missing. Conversely, collecting every material before the character reaches its cap does not raise the level. Rotate between character EXP, Beetle Coins, Hunter Level EXP, and the target drop so that all four requirements become complete together.
5. Recheck the phase after every Breakthrough
After B1 through B5, the maximum level changes and the next material list can change with it. Reopen the tracker rather than assuming the previous phase’s drops remain valid. The final B6 phase raises the cap to level 80 and uses the highest fee in the listed schedule.

Trying to ascend before Hunter Rank 10
Symptom: the character is at level 20, but the Ascension option is unavailable.
Fix: earn Hunter Level EXP until Hunter Rank 10. Character level and account rank are separate gates.
Rank #4
Farming the wrong material
Symptom: your inventory is full of drops, but the Breakthrough screen still shows a missing requirement.
Fix: return to the selected character’s phase tracker and match the exact item name. The database’s Zero example contains several Whisper variants and a Charging Knight Spark Plug; another character may require a different set.
Confusing Hunter Guides with Hunter Level EXP
Symptom: using Guides increases the character’s level but leaves Hunter Rank unchanged.
Fix: spend Pixels on activities that explicitly list Hunter Level EXP, such as the relevant trials or the named material sources. Guides provide character XP only.

Symptom: all drops are complete, but the Breakthrough button remains unavailable because the fee is short.
Fix: farm a Beetle Coin-bearing resource run and check the fee for the exact phase. The required amount is 25,000 at B1, 50,000 at B2, 75,000 at B3, 100,000 at B4, 125,000 at B5, and 150,000 at B6.
Spending Pixels without checking the reward panel
Symptom: Rank progress is slow or the next ascension material is still missing after several runs.
Fix: compare the 40-Pixel trials by their displayed Hunter Level EXP, coin payout, Guides, and targeted material. Choose the run that removes your current bottleneck instead of repeating a familiar stage automatically.

- Hunter Rank is at least 10.
- The character has reached the current cap: 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70.
- The next phase’s exact materials are complete.
- The phase’s Beetle Coin fee is available.
- You have checked whether the next phase changes the material list.
- You are ready to spend the required resources on the character’s Breakthrough screen.
What the complete path looks like
Starting from the base level-20 cap, the progression is B1 to level 30, B2 to 40, B3 to 50, B4 to 60, B5 to 70, and B6 to 80. Hunter Rank 10 is the account-level unlock that makes this path available. Hunter Guides supply the character XP needed to reach each cap, Hunter Level EXP raises the account rank, Beetle Coins pay the phase fees, and the character’s own tracker determines which materials must be farmed. Keeping those roles distinct is the fastest way to identify what is actually blocking the next appraisal.
