Pokémon’s January 13, 2026 announcement covered Pokédex entries for over 40 newly discovered Mega Pokémon, including Mega Meganium and Mega Scovillain. These are newly revealed Mega forms of Pokémon whose base species were already known—not 40 new base species. Mega Garchomp Z was announced separately on February 27, 2026, for the Mega Dimension DLC.
What “new Mega Pokémon” means
The phrase refers to newly discovered Mega Pokémon: Mega Evolutions or forms associated with Pokémon already known by their base names. The January announcement did not present over 40 entirely new base species. Pokémon described the Pokédex update as covering newly discovered Mega Pokémon, with the stated range running from Mega Meganium to Mega Absol Z.

Pokémon’s January 13, 2026 article said the update added entries for over 40 Mega Pokémon. That is the publisher’s count of newly covered Mega Pokémon in the update; it does not establish that all of them debuted in one reveal or that the list is complete today. Read Pokémon’s announcement.
Which Mega Pokémon did Pokémon name?
The January article highlighted Mega Meganium and Mega Scovillain as examples. It named Mega Absol Z at the end of the stated range. These are examples, not an exhaustive roster of every Mega form in Pokémon Legends: Z-A or its DLC.

Mega Garchomp Z was a later reveal
On February 27, 2026, Pokémon announced Mega Garchomp Z for Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension. This is a distinct, later announcement—not part of the January 13 Pokédex-update news. See the Mega Garchomp Z announcement.
How Mega Dimension fits in
Mega Dimension is downloadable additional story content for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, not a standalone replacement for the base game. Nintendo says it is available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, and requires a copy of Pokémon Legends: Z-A on the console. The DLC’s additional story content, including Mega Stones for Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y, became available on December 9, 2025. Nintendo’s support page also identifies purchase through the Nintendo eShop and Nintendo Store. Check Nintendo’s Mega Dimension support information.

Nintendo describes the optional Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack as improving performance, resolution, and frame rates. The DLC is compatible with both the original game and the Switch 2 Edition.

As of October 4, 2026, Pokémon had reported that a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension bundle was scheduled for October 29, 2026. That date is still in the future at the time of this article, so the bundle should be treated as upcoming, not released. Read Pokémon’s bundle announcement.
