New PS Remote Play App Won’t Sign In to PlayStation Network? Fixes for Every Platform

PS Remote Play sign-in failures can come from PSN, passkeys, 2SV, browser callbacks, app sessions, or device settings. This guide separates authentication from pairing and network problems, with platform-specific fixes for Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone, iPad, Android TV, PS5, and PS4.

If PS Remote Play will not sign in to PlayStation Network, first try signing in to PlayStation Account Management in a normal, up-to-date browser. If Account Management also rejects the sign-in, the problem is with the account, passkey, two-step verification, account status, or PSN service—not Remote Play. If Account Management works, focus on the Remote Play app, browser handoff, cookies, permissions, or device network instead.

The phrase new PS Remote Play app usually refers to Sony’s October 14, 2020 update, which renamed PS4 Remote Play, added PS5 support, and changed the sign-in flow. The current app has different platform requirements and authentication behavior, so old fixes are not automatically reliable.

Start by identifying which part is failing

PS Remote Play has four separate stages:

  1. PSN authentication: your account signs in.
  2. Console association or pairing: Remote Play identifies the PS5 or PS4 connected to that account.
  3. Network discovery: the client finds and reaches the console.
  4. Streaming: the video and controls remain stable.

Do not troubleshoot port forwarding or Wi-Fi before you know which stage has failed. Use this symptom guide:

The fastest fix sequence

Follow these steps in order. Sony’s official troubleshooting sequence is to check service status, confirm the device is online, restart PS Remote Play, restart the device, and reinstall the app if needed. The additional account and browser checks below address authentication handoff problems that a simple reinstall does not fix.

PS Portal + Case + Charging Station
  • Put Your PS5 in the Palm of Your Hand - PlayStation Portal Remote Player gives you access to the games on your PS5 over your home Wi-Fi*, letting you jump right into gaming without needing to play on a TV.
  • Play Your Game Collection - PlayStation Portal Remote Player can play compatible games you have installed on your PS5 console, including your favorite games for PS5 and PS4.**
  • Store and Protect – Sturdy outer shell, molded interior and dual zipper pulls provides protection for the PlayStation Portal remote player
  • Charging Cable Pass-through – Allows a charging cable to be plugged into the PS Portal while stored inside the case
  • Charge and Display – Charge the PlayStation Portal remote player and display it next to your PlayStation5 console
  1. Check PSN status. Open the PlayStation Service Status page. If Account Management and other PlayStation services are failing too, wait for the service issue to be resolved.
  2. Test Account Management. Sign in at PlayStation Account Management using a normal current browser. Do not use the small login window inside Remote Play for this test.
  3. Resolve account prompts. Complete a requested email verification, accept a new security or terms prompt, recover the account, or address a suspension notice before returning to Remote Play.
  4. Update everything relevant. Update the Remote Play app, the console system software, the operating system, and—on computers—the default browser.
  5. Close Remote Play completely. Quit it rather than merely minimizing it. On mobile, force-close it from the recent-apps screen.
  6. Restart the device. This clears a stuck browser callback and temporary authentication session.
  7. Retry with the same PlayStation account used on the console. A different adult, child, or family account may sign in successfully but not show the intended console.
  8. Reinstall only after the checks above. Use Sony’s official download page or the official app store, not an old installer or APK from a file-sharing site.

If Account Management works but Remote Play does not, the account is less likely to be the root cause. Move to the browser-handoff and platform sections instead of repeatedly changing the password.

Why the app suddenly began asking for PSN sign-in

On October 14, 2020, Sony launched PS4 system software 8.00 and renamed the existing PS4 Remote Play app to PS Remote Play on iOS, Android, Windows PC, and Mac. The update added PS5 connectivity. In its announcement, Sony said users needed to sign in to PSN from a PS5 to access the feature.

The updated flow ties Remote Play access to the PlayStation account associated with the console. A historical user report from that day said the old PS4 workflow had not required a visible sign-in, but that does not prove every version or configuration of the old app worked without authentication. It does explain why the sign-in prompt seemed to appear immediately after the rename and why some existing PS4 devices reportedly disappeared and needed to be linked again.

Fix a browser or app-handoff sign-in loop

This is the most useful branch when the browser reports success but the Remote Play client remains at its login screen, or when QR approval finishes and the client returns to sign-in.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open a normal, current version of Safari, Chrome, or Edge and sign in to PlayStation Account Management.
  2. Confirm that the browser can complete the account login without repeatedly redirecting or returning to the login page.
  3. Clear PlayStation-related cookies and site data, then close and reopen the browser. This is a general browser-session diagnostic, not a guaranteed Sony Remote Play fix. Sony has separately recommended deleting PlayStation site data for some repeated-request login problems; see its support guidance.
  4. Temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, ad blocker, DNS filter, enterprise web filter, or unusually strict browser privacy setting. These can block the authentication callback even when ordinary websites work.
  5. Make sure the computer or mobile device has the correct date, time, and time zone. Incorrect system time can invalidate authentication sessions; this is a general diagnostic step rather than a Remote Play-specific Sony instruction.
  6. Make the current browser the device’s default browser and retry Remote Play. On Windows, also check whether Windows Firewall or third-party antivirus is blocking the application.
  7. If the sign-in succeeds in the browser but the app still does not return, reinstall PS Remote Play after closing it completely.

Do not use browser redirect tricks or enter your credentials into a website that is not an official PlayStation domain. A successful browser login is useful evidence, but it does not by itself prove that the Remote Play application callback completed.

Passkey problems: use the fallback

Current PlayStation accounts can use passkeys, but a passkey that works on one device can fail during a cross-device handoff. Sony recommends updated Safari, Chrome, or Edge for browser passkey sign-in and documents a specific limitation for Remote Play on Mac.

General passkey fallback

  1. On the PlayStation sign-in screen, select Can’t Sign In with Passkey.
  2. Choose email/password authentication or QR-code authentication.
  3. Complete the fallback in the current browser or with the device that stores the passkey.
  4. Return to Remote Play and retry.

Pay particular attention to Android-to-Windows passkey handoffs. Sony lists some combinations of those devices as potentially unsuccessful; email or QR authentication is the appropriate test rather than repeatedly approving the same failed passkey request.

Mac: temporarily return to password sign-in

Sony specifically says to revert to password sign-in if passkey authentication causes problems in Remote Play for Mac:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Sign in to PlayStation Account Management.
  2. Open Security.
  3. Temporarily disable Sign in with Passkey.
  4. Create or confirm a regular account password.
  5. Retry PS Remote Play for Mac with the password.

You can re-enable the passkey after Remote Play is working. Passkeys and two-step verification are different security systems; do not disable 2SV merely because a passkey failed.

Two-step verification problems

2SV failures can look like an ordinary Remote Play login loop. Handle the specific failure:

  • The code does not arrive: select Resend Code, restart the phone, check that airplane mode is off, and confirm that the phone has mobile signal.
  • The code arrives but the app loops: test Account Management in a normal browser, then clear PlayStation site data and retry with the browser or password fallback.
  • You lost the 2SV phone: use one of the ten backup codes through Account Management.
  • You have neither the phone nor backup codes: contact PlayStation Support. Reinstalling Remote Play cannot restore account access.

Google TV is a documented exception. Sony’s current 2SV guidance says users cannot sign in on Google TV while 2SV is enabled; they must temporarily disable 2SV and reactivate it afterward. Do not generalize that instruction to Windows, Mac, Android phones, iPhones, PS5, or PS4.

Try the PlayStation App carefully on mobile

The official PlayStation App can launch a Remote Play session when both apps are installed on the same mobile device. It can also provide a useful authentication-session test, but Sony does not document the app as a universal fix for Remote Play sign-in failures.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Community reports describe two opposite outcomes: on some Android devices, signing in to the PlayStation App first allowed PS Remote Play to inherit a working session; on some older installations, uninstalling the PlayStation App allowed Remote Play to authenticate. Some users reported that reinstalling the PlayStation App made the problem return. These are anecdotal, version-dependent reports—not proof of a general PlayStation App bug.

Use this low-risk sequence:

  1. Update both the PlayStation App and PS Remote Play.
  2. Sign in to the PlayStation App with the account used by the console.
  3. Fully close both apps.
  4. Open PS Remote Play and try again.
  5. If that fails, sign out of the PlayStation App and retry Remote Play.
  6. If the problem remains, uninstall and reinstall PS Remote Play first.
  7. Only test uninstalling the PlayStation App if you can sign back in afterward and are willing to reinstall it. Treat this as a diagnostic workaround, not the first or universal fix.

Android fixes

The Google Play listing currently requires Android 10 or later, a PS5 or PS4 with current system software, a PlayStation account, and a fast, stable internet connection. Sony notes that some Android devices are unverified and may not work properly. The listing was updated May 19, 2026, although its parsed listing does not expose an Android app version number.

  1. Update PS Remote Play, the PlayStation App, Google Play Services, Chrome, and Android System WebView.
  2. Set a current browser—preferably Chrome for testing—as the default browser.
  3. Open Settings > Apps > PS Remote Play > Storage & cache, then clear the cache. If that does not help, use Clear storage or Clear data; the exact label varies by Android manufacturer. You will need to sign in again.
  4. Restart the phone or tablet and retry.
  5. Test both Wi-Fi and mobile data. If one works, the account is probably not the problem; investigate the failing network.
  6. Temporarily disable a VPN, Private DNS, ad blocker, or other network filter.
  7. If the PlayStation App is authenticated, use the app-first sequence above.

Do not routinely install an old APK from an unofficial repository. It may contain altered code, lack current security fixes, or stop working when Sony changes authentication.

Android TV

Sony’s Android TV instructions require Android TV OS 12 or later, a mobile phone or tablet for QR sign-in, and the same PlayStation account used on the PS5. Open Remote Play on the TV, display its QR code, scan it with the phone or tablet, and complete authentication. If approval succeeds but the TV returns to login, use the passkey fallback, test with password authentication, and check the Google TV 2SV exception above.

iPhone and iPad fixes

The current App Store listing requires iOS 15 or later or iPadOS 15 or later. It lists PS Remote Play version 9.0.0, released March 18, 2026. The device also needs a current PS5 or PS4, a PSN account, and a fast, stable connection.

  1. Update iOS or iPadOS and PS Remote Play.
  2. Enable the permission that matters most after sign-in: open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network and turn on PS Remote Play.
  3. Force-close Remote Play, reopen it, and restart the device if necessary.
  4. Temporarily test without a VPN or restrictive DNS/security profile.
  5. Delete and reinstall PS Remote Play from the App Store if the app’s local session appears corrupted.

Local Network permission usually affects console discovery rather than a pure PSN login failure. If sign-in completes but no console appears, however, this is one of the first iPhone and iPad settings to check.

For cellular play, open Settings > Mobile Data, select PS Remote Play, and enable Use Mobile Data if that option is shown. Sony warns that carrier conditions can prevent Remote Play over mobile data and that Remote Play can consume substantially more data than ordinary video streaming.

Windows fixes

Sony’s current Windows requirements are:

  • Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11
  • Seventh-generation Intel Core processor or later
  • At least 2 GB RAM
  • At least 100 MB available storage
  • Display resolution of 1024×768 or higher
  • A sound card and USB port

Download the application only from Sony’s official PS Remote Play page. If installation itself fails, right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator, then update Windows.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If the Windows login window is blank or does not return to the app

  • Update the default browser and make it the default Windows browser temporarily.
  • Clear PlayStation site data in that browser.
  • Temporarily test with VPN, proxy, DNS filtering, corporate security software, and third-party antivirus disabled.
  • Check Windows Firewall and antivirus application rules. Restore protection immediately after the test and create an appropriate exception rather than leaving security disabled.
  • Restart the PC and retry.

If Windows Remote Play crashes

Sony’s troubleshooting page recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the app; for certain PC crashes it also advises deleting the local PS Remote Play folder under AppData. Close the app first, open %LOCALAPPDATA% in File Explorer, remove the PS Remote Play folder Sony identifies, and reinstall from Sony’s official page. The exact folder display can vary by installation.

There are user reports of crashes and instability in Windows version 9.0.0, including reports mentioning build 9.0.0.2120. Those reports do not establish that version 9.0.0 is universally defective, and Sony has not confirmed a general defect in the supplied documentation. Record your operating system, app version, and exact error before contacting support.

Mac fixes

Sony’s current Mac requirements list macOS Big Sur through macOS Tahoe, at least 40 MB of storage, at least 2 GB RAM, current console system software, a high-speed connection, and a PlayStation account matching the console account.

  1. Update macOS and PS Remote Play.
  2. If you use a passkey, select Can’t Sign In with Passkey or temporarily switch to password sign-in in Account Management. Sony specifically documents this fallback for Remote Play on Mac.
  3. Update the default browser and clear PlayStation cookies/site data.
  4. Temporarily disable VPN, DNS filtering, or other network security software.
  5. Restart the Mac and retry.
  6. If the app remains broken, drag PS Remote Play from the Applications folder to the Trash, empty the Trash, and reinstall it from Sony’s Mac instructions.

Use the password fallback before attempting unofficial downgrades. It directly addresses the Mac passkey limitation Sony has documented.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

After sign-in: configure the console

These settings do not normally repair a login screen that never completes. They matter once PSN authentication succeeds but Remote Play cannot find or wake the console.

PS5

  1. On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
  2. Turn on Enable Remote Play.
  3. For rest-mode access, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode.
  4. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS5 from Network.

If automatic discovery fails, put the PS5 and client on the same network. On the console, open Settings > System > Remote Play > Pair Device, then enter the displayed number in the Remote Play client.

  2. Open Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4 > Activate.
  3. For rest-mode access, open the PS4 power-save settings and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning On PS4 from Network.

If automatic pairing fails, open Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings > Add Device on the PS4 and enter the code shown by the client. Some users after the October 2020 update reported that an existing PS4 device had to be linked again; that was a contemporaneous community report, not proof that every PS4 needs to be relinked.

Network troubleshooting belongs after authentication

Network settings usually solve console discovery, poor quality, or disconnections—not a login form that hangs before the console is selected.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Sony lists a minimum upload and download speed of 5 Mbps, with 15 Mbps or higher recommended. Remote Play uses UDP port 8572. NAT Type 3 may prevent a connection. Sony recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi and, where possible, a wired connection for the PC or console. See its Remote Play connection troubleshooting page for the current guidance.

  1. Test the internet connection on the console.
  2. Test the client device’s connection.
  3. Try the console and client on the same local network before testing from outside the home.
  4. Use Ethernet for the console or PC if possible.
  5. Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi instead of a congested 2.4 GHz network.
  6. Pause large downloads, uploads, and streaming activity.
  7. Check the NAT type.
  8. Only then investigate router configuration or UDP 8572.

Opening UDP 8572 may help some connection problems, but it will not normally repair a failed PSN authentication handoff. If you are unfamiliar with router settings, Sony recommends contacting your ISP, router manufacturer, or mobile carrier rather than blindly forwarding ports. Hotel, school, corporate, guest, and carrier networks may allow the browser login while blocking console discovery or UDP traffic.

What not to do

  • Do not assume the app is universally broken. Update-related reports are evidence of individual failures, not a confirmed Sony-wide defect.
  • Do not forward ports first. Authentication, pairing, and streaming are separate stages.
  • Do not disable 2SV as a general fix. The documented Google TV exception is specific; use backup codes or Support for ordinary 2SV recovery.
  • Do not reset the password repeatedly. Reset it when the password or account session is genuinely invalid, not as a guaranteed Remote Play repair.
  • Do not download old APKs or EXEs from unofficial mirrors.
  • Do not use version spoofers, hosts-file edits, or update-blocking patches to make an old Windows build appear current. Community workarounds combining an older Remote Play version with a patcher may help some users, but they are unsupported and create security, update, and account risks.
  • Do not enter PSN credentials into unofficial Remote Play software. Third-party clients are not Sony-supported and are not a routine solution to an official-app login problem.

Historical reports also mention enabling 2FA, resetting a password, accepting permissions on the PlayStation website, relinking a PS4, uninstalling the PlayStation App, and using browser redirect tricks. Treat these as version- and platform-dependent community leads, not universal instructions.

  • Account Management itself will not accept the sign-in.
  • You cannot access the phone or backup codes for 2SV.
  • The account may be compromised.
  • You suspect the account or console is suspended.
  • A child account requires family-manager recovery.
  • The same authentication failure occurs on multiple updated devices after the browser and service checks.

A suspended account or console normally produces an error code, and Sony says suspension notices are sent by email. A reinstall will not remove a suspension. Include the error text or code, platform, operating-system version, Remote Play version, whether Account Management works, and whether another device can sign in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does PS Remote Play require PlayStation Plus?

Sony’s official Remote Play requirements list a PlayStation account, compatible console, current software, and a suitable internet connection. They do not list PlayStation Plus as a general prerequisite for Remote Play.

Why does PS Remote Play sign in in my browser but not in the app?

The account authentication succeeded, but the browser-to-app callback may have failed. Clear PlayStation site data, use a current default browser, temporarily disable VPN or filtering software, and reinstall Remote Play if needed. If you use a passkey, choose Can’t Sign In with Passkey and try email/password or QR authentication.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I uninstall the PlayStation App to fix Remote Play?

Not as a first step. Some community reports say signing in to the PlayStation App first helps, while others say uninstalling it helped older Android installations. Update both apps and test the app-first sequence before treating uninstalling the PlayStation App as an optional diagnostic workaround.

Can I fix a Remote Play login failure by forwarding UDP port 8572?

Usually not. UDP 8572, NAT, and router configuration affect console discovery and streaming after authentication. First determine whether Account Management and the Remote Play login complete.

What should I do if I lost my 2SV phone and backup codes?

Contact PlayStation Support. Sony’s recovery guidance provides a resend and backup-code path when available, but a lost phone with no backup codes cannot be repaired by reinstalling Remote Play.

The Bottom Line

Test PlayStation Account Management first. If it fails, recover or verify the account, passkey, 2SV, or service status. If it works, treat the problem as a Remote Play authentication handoff or device issue: update the app and browser, clear PlayStation site data, disable filtering software for a test, use the passkey fallback, and reinstall the official client. Only after sign-in succeeds should you troubleshoot console pairing, NAT, UDP 8572, or streaming quality.
