There is no confirmed official Android release of RPCS3. The headline refers to an independent Android effort by DH, whom Android Central identified as one of RPCS3’s original developers. DH’s project moved from RPCS3-Android to RPCSX-UI-Android; a separate project, ARMSX3, was described in August 2026 as an experimental RPCS3-based Android proof of concept. Neither project’s existence means Android phones can run the PS3 library reliably.
Is RPCS3 officially coming to Android?
No official Android port was announced in the reporting behind this story. In December 2024, the RPCS3 project said, “We have no intention of porting RPCS3 to these platforms at this time,” as quoted by Android Central in its coverage of the project’s Arm announcement. That statement describes the project’s position then; it should not be read as an announcement of a later official Android release.
The distinction matters: DH’s work is an individual, independent effort associated with an original RPCS3 developer, not an Android app launched by the current RPCS3 team.
What happened to DH’s Android project?
RPCS3-Android reached an early alpha
Android Central reported that DH created RPCS3-Android and reached an Android alpha stage. It characterized that build as foundational, rather than ready for loading and playing games.

RPCSX-UI-Android replaced the original project name
In April 2025, Notebookcheck reported that RPCS3-Android had been discontinued and that DH introduced RPCSX-UI-Android, described as essentially the same emulation software and interface under a different name. The report says the app accepts PKG and ISO formats and requires users to install PS3 system firmware separately. It also reports support for virtual and physical controllers. Notebookcheck’s account is a dated snapshot, not confirmation that DH still maintains the project in October 2026.
What is the Android PS3 emulation situation now?
Android Authority described ARMSX3 in August 2026 as a separate proof-of-concept Android port based on RPCS3, with Arm-specific improvements. Its findings illustrate how experimental Android PS3 emulation remains: outcomes differed sharply between games and devices, and are not a general compatibility benchmark.

These results show why a single frame-rate claim cannot predict how another game will perform. Android Authority cautioned that most games should not be expected to run at playable speeds, if they run at all, and noted high device temperatures as a concern. Its report also lists features such as resolution scaling and custom GPU drivers; those options do not establish broad game compatibility. The available reports do not support naming a universal “best” Android PS3 emulator. Results depend on both the game and the device, and coverage does not provide a representative comparison across phones.

What do you need to try an Android PS3 emulator?
- A compatible Android device: the cited reports do not establish a minimum phone model that will run a given game acceptably.
- PS3 system firmware: the coverage says users must install it; it is not described as bundled with these emulators.
- A supported game file: Notebookcheck says RPCSX-UI-Android supports PKG and ISO formats.
- Optional controller: both virtual and physical controls are reported. A physical Android-compatible controller may make input more comfortable, but it is optional and does not improve emulation speed.
Check the current project’s own instructions and compatibility information before attempting setup; the available reporting does not establish current maintenance or a stable, device-wide compatibility list for either project.
