New World: Aeternum sorts its weapons into four categories: one-handed, two-handed, ranged, and magical. The community-maintained New World Wiki lists the specific weapon types in each category, and that list is the most complete public roster of the game’s weapons that is easy to scan. Read it as a community reference rather than an official catalogue, and note that the game was delisted in January 2026 and is scheduled to go offline on January 31, 2027.
Weapon types at a glance
The table below uses the category and type names from the New World Wiki’s weapon reference. Pairings are listed only where the wiki states them.

Notes on specific parts of the list
Shields are not a separate weapon type
Shields do not appear as their own entry in the wiki’s roster. They are described as the off-hand partner for swords and flails, so a reader looking for a shield in the one-handed group will find it attached to those two types rather than listed alone.
Daggers are missing from the wiki’s list
The wiki’s four-category roster does not name daggers. Amazon Games’ official New World known-issues page, last updated November 4, 2025, nonetheless refers to daggers. It reports that daggers do not appear in the type filter of the perk selection window, and that the Sluggish debuff from the Maiming Initiation mastery does not work. The page does not say where daggers sit in the category system, and it does not confirm whether those two problems have since been fixed. Treat the wiki’s list as possibly incomplete, and check the official known-issues page if daggers matter to your build.
Ranged and magical weapons
The ranged group contains bows, muskets, and blunderbusses. The magical group contains fire staffs, life staffs, ice gauntlets, and void gauntlets. The wiki groups these by weapon family, and it does not describe how each one plays, so the table is the right tool for finding where a weapon belongs, not for judging how it performs.
What this list does and does not establish
The one-handed, two-handed, ranged, and magical grouping and the type names come from a community-maintained wiki, not from a current official roster document. An older category list is not proof that no later weapon was added, so a weapon missing from the wiki may still have existed in the game. The sources behind the wiki do not support rankings, damage comparisons, or a best-weapon pick, and nothing here shows that any weapon is balanced against the others.

When comparing types, the category, the combat distance implied by the group, whether a shield is paired, and the role you want in a group are the most useful axes. Those are the axes the wiki itself supports.
Current status and availability
The game’s status changed twice in a short span, and the newer notice replaces the earlier one.
Rank #3
- October 28, 2025: Amazon Games announced that Season 10 and the Nighthaven update would be the final content release, and it initially expected servers to stay live through 2026.
- January 15, 2026: The official notice says New World: Aeternum was delisted on that date and is scheduled to go offline. Players who already own the game on a platform can keep playing there until the shutdown.
The official January 15, 2026 notice states: “New World: Aeternum will officially be taken offline from all platforms on January 31, 2027.” The 2025 “through 2026” wording is superseded, so use the January 2026 date when you describe the game’s future.
If you are looking to buy the game, the official page on authorized game-content sellers predates the January 2026 delisting. It cannot tell you whether the game is currently for sale anywhere, so check the platform storefront directly before assuming it is available.

No additional content updates are planned after Season 10 and Nighthaven, so the weapon roster described above is unlikely to change through new releases before the shutdown.

Use the wiki to find where a weapon sits in the taxonomy and what it pairs with, and use the official known-issues page for bugs that affect specific weapons. Those two sources answer different questions, and neither one ranks weapons.
