BADGE, BERET, SASH, and SKIRT are parts of a classic Girl Scout uniform. Add “hall” after BINGO, CITY, MONTY, and STUDY to make Bingo Hall, City Hall, Monty Hall, and Study Hall.

How Connections works

Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four, with each group sharing a theme. The New York Times Help Center says each puzzle has one solution and is made tricky by words that could fit multiple categories. The game’s colors mark difficulty from yellow (easiest) to purple (trickiest), and the words and categories are curated by editors using the Oxford Dictionary.

Overlap is part of the challenge, but it does not mean an alternate grouping is accepted. Try to identify a complete set of four before submitting a guess.

Where to play and how to access the archive

According to the New York Times Help Center, Connections is free to play through the Games app, NYTimes.com, and the News app. The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone, so “today’s puzzle” can refer to a different date depending on where you are.

The Help Center says the archive goes back to June 12, 2023 and is available to All Access and Games subscribers. Playing archive puzzles affects completion statistics but does not count toward daily streaks. Access details can change, so check the publisher’s current information.
